Patterico's Pontifications

Editorial Cartoon: Obama, Entitlement Pusher

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 9:24 am

A couple of days ago, I envisioned the following editorial cartoon to summarize the fiscal cliff deal, as well as the debt situation this country faces:

In the editorial cartoon I envision, a child is lying on the ground dying. On the child are the words “our children’s future.” Obama is a doctor, stethoscope hanging from his neck, standing over the dying child who needs CPR. Obama is handing out heroin to onlookers so they won’t notice he’s doing nothing to save the child. Every so often someone says, what about the child? and he starts making speeches about how we need to save the child, but it needs to be a balanced approach. We need the rich people to give us more heroin, so I can have time to save this poor child. What I won’t do is cut off your heroin just because the fat cats want to keep it all for themselves. And everybody in the crowd applauds and takes more heroin, and passes a law that the rich people need to give them more heroin.

Meanwhile the child is dying right in front of this crowd and nobody cares because they’re all too high. And you can tell they’re going to keep ignoring the child and getting high until the child is dead.

After I wrote that, a reader submitted this image to me:

Obama, the Entitlement Pusher

That about sums it up, doesn’t it?

The reader wishes to remain anonymous, obviously because of how racist this all is.

  9. The most racist part of this is the white coat that Obama is wearing. It’s not even a real doctor’s coat, just a white dinner jacket. It makes Obama look like a waiter at a whites-only Country Club. And I’m quite sure that the blue thing around his neck is supposed to be a noose, right? Racist, racist, racist.

And I think the dying kid is supposed to look Asian, right? Racist.

  10. Still trying to figure out why Obama’s purple shirt and dark tie are racist, but I’ll come up with something. Racists.

  11. Actually, the situation is even worse than your little diorama presents. To some degree, you can’t blame a heroin addict for what they do or what they refuse to do; the drug causes them to behave in a certain way.

What is, in fact, the case here is that this is a clear example of Free Will, of personal volition, in action. People are choosing to ignore the reality of our political, economic and cultural situation and what the inevitable outcome must be. These are human beings with functioning minds who choose not to think.

There is no greater crime committed against yourself or your fellow man than this.

  12. Oh, here’s a good one: Our biracial President is portrayed as wearing a white coat and black pants. That is a racist way of implying that Obama’s upper half — where his brain and heart are located — are represented by his white ancestry while everything below the waist is represented by his black ancestry. Racist, racist, racist.

  17. This was all preordained. LBJ started it by running a war on a credit card, while shoveling out benefits that corrupted the electorate

Even in 1964 Reagan warned that all the gold held by the Treasury was really owned by foreign dollar holders.

When Nixon tried to stop it, cut spending, and impound some ridiculous appropriations, the Democrats savagely attacked him.

Congress then prohibited “impounding” that had been used for decades to control pork. Nixon became a Keynesian, closed the gold window, and was re-elected.

Reagan cut taxes-but Congress happily spent billions more anyway.

G H W Bush tried to rein in the loose money: and was voted out in 1992.

George Bush gave up any pretense of fiscal restraint by the GOP: he vetoed not one spending bill that I remember; he added benefits increasing the debt; the House GOP was all in with this too. Endless pork; endless debt. No one awake at the SEC or FDIC. Re-elected all.

Now we have wages and prices set to a 40% annual borrowing level we cannot maintain. An electorate that demands we maintain it. The dollar, free of any restraint once imposed by gold redemption rights, loses value every year. Politicians afraid to do a damn thing.

The discipline will come all right. But from outside.

  19. Mudd, except in George W Bush’s defense he refused to sign FY2009 budget, causing the Democrats to delay passing it – the last budget they passed – until Obama’ inauguration.

I have no idea how to stop it though. The end stage of this is Venezuela, not Jeffersonian America.

  24. One sees parallels between the American “poor” and Venezuelan poor loving their respective icehole leaders. Would be loverly if choom met same medical fate as monkey boy Chavez. I know power corrupts, but still amazing that Soviet communism is a failure and falls and clueless Americans think it will work here. IMHO liberals are mentally ill. And the hypocrisy is mind-boggling on many issues. The HOUSE controlled by GOP could have done worse than evict Boehner from speakership and installed West. He lost his seat (I wonder how much fraud there was in his defeat) and yet could still have been Speaker; at least that’s my understanding?

    Comment by Calypso Louis Farrakhan (e799d8) — 1/3/2013 @ 3:20 pm

  25. The dying kid should really be black. Obama is really unconcerned about black kids, like the ones whose scholarships to the private school his daughters attend he cancelled.

    Comment by Mike K (5552a4) — 1/3/2013 @ 3:28 pm

  26. House Control….
The incoming Speaker, not to be confused with the Outgoing Speaker (who has crying jags), has found a back-bone that no one was currently using, and decreed that there will be no more one-on-one secret negotiations with the Goal-Post Mover.
Perhaps he was tired (finally) of having his a$$ handed to him, or there just wasn’t any more to slice off?

  34. All I can think about with this president is back in the time Rome was the power and was on the decline. To keep the citizens from complaining about (and noticing) all the problems, they kept “The Gladiator Games” going to entertain and feed the citizens. That is what this group does, it gives things to enough people (through entitlements, etc.) so that they don’t notice a country who has spent itself broke and is more intrusive today than ever.
