Nonsense, NelsonK, in the context of the question, he’s implying that the higher tax rates would apply to the 1 million income level. That Biden couldn’t get the campaign sound bite correct is not a surprise, he’s a moron.

He doesn’t say that the lower cutoff is limited to a million bucks. In fact during Obama consistently set the cutoff at 250K.

One of the more interesting aspects of the cliff negotiations and deal is the evolution of the Democrats’ position on the Bush tax cuts for “the middle class.” They essentially spent an entire decade insisting to us that all of the Bush tax cuts had been reckless and had blown a hole in the budget, and that the economy would be perfectly fine if we returned to the Clinton era tax rates. For the past couple of years, however, they seem to be giving in to the GOP on two major arguments: (1) that the Bush tax cuts for the middle class ought to be protected, and (2) that tax increases have negative economic consequences (though Dems only think this is true for middle-class tax increases, and only for personal income taxes for the middle class).

If outlets like CNN or the New York Times weren’t so busy being partisan hacks for the administration, they might spend some time questioning if Dems are just pandering to middle-income voters or if this does indeed represent a change in their thinking about tax policy.
