  1. Ding.

    Patterico (62908f)

  2. Done! 😉

    Sue (e6d02f)

  3. And done! He is currently leading, too.

    Gazzer (4c4ae2)

  4. That’s a tough ballot, though, more than a few are worthy, or unworthy as the case may be,

    narciso (3fec35)

  5. Many are in the running, narciso.

But there can be only one winner.

    Brett Kimberlin.

    Patterico (62908f)

  6. Sue and Gazzer,

It takes actual courage to vote this way and say so publicly. Good on you.

    Patterico (62908f)

  7. And indeed, the fact that such a vote takes courage?

That’s the best evidence that he truly deserves the award.

    Patterico (62908f)

  8. I read through the candidates with an open mind. They all have put in a lot of effort to being the most censorious jerk in the world. But I really don’t think anyone matched Mr Kimberlin’s history-making efforts to silence Aaron and many other good folks.

At the very least, he didn’t half-ass it. This guy knows how to follow through.

    Dustin (73fead)

  9. There’s actually a guy over there trying to argue that Kimberlin’s thuggery should be mitigated by Aaron’s subpoena to determine the identity of Breitbart Unmasked. And the guy making the plaint apparently represented Kimberlin in this regard.

Evidently the fellow in question is A-OK with Kimberlin outing Aaron, outing Seth Allen, and Breitbart Unmasked outing Dustin. But Aaron trying to learn Breitbart Unmasked’s identity? Why, that *mitigates* Kimberlin’s thuggery!

I know this because some asshat at Popehat’s site told me so.

    Patterico (62908f)

  10. I voted as soon I saw Ken’s tweet announcing the poll. According to the counter, my vote was the 10th cast overall and the 6th for The Dread Pirate Kimberlin. When I checked just before 9 pm ET tonight, Kimberlin was in the lead with 303 votes (27%).

    W. J. J. Hoge (9c4b9d)

  11. BK needs to be returned to the slammer just on General Principles.

    askeptic (2bb434)

  12. Has it ever been revealed how he got out of the slammer?

    Pious Agnostic (20c167)

  13. Done.

    Colonel Haiku (d5ccca)

  14. Done! He’s still ‘winning’!

    Corky (4cbdbd)

  15. Stormin’ Norman has Passed!

    askeptic (2bb434)

  16. A lawyer, an illegal alien, a pathological liar, a racist, a Muslim, a communist, an elitist, a sexist and an egomaniac walk into a bar.

    Bartender asks…

    “What’ll it be, Mr. President?”

    Colonel Haiku (d5ccca)

  17. Put me down for 1 vote.

    peedoffamerican (ee1de0)

  18. done.

I’m in Chicago… how many times can I vote?

    paul (f8d55e)

  19. Looks like BK will have something else to complain about in 2013.

    Jcw46 (eda37d)

  20. Still leading, with 30% of the vote – including mine.

If he wins, will Kimberlin suffer a lawgasm? He’s sued everybody else…

    Rusty Bill (e3b0ca)

  21. Being a shameless joiner I went for the runaway fave.

    gary gulrud (dd7d4e)

  22. All the cool kids are doing it,

    narciso (3fec35)

  23. Done.

    jem (c75852)

  24. Done.

There are many candidates, but I feel that the winner should be someone I can actively feel undiluted personal contempt for. Kimberlin most definitely fits.

    Tom Hunt (081109)

  25. Vote cast. Thuggery leads to more thuggery. Stand up to the fascists!

    WarEagle82 (97b777)

Yeah, it was real fun seeing a website affiliated with/fawning weirdly over a convicted repeat bomber post a picture of my house and talk about members of my family in a rather naked attempt to shut me up. This was around the time I received tweets referring me to ‘Mexican Cartel Chainsaw Execution Video’ and ‘Kid Kenoma’ started yammering about his hope for my ‘slow and painful death’.

Honestly, I was mostly confused. I’m not exactly buying ink by the barrel. This is the only blog post I’ve ever even written about Brett Kimberlin. I have nothing to do with Andrew Breitbart. I admired him, even when I occasionally didn’t agree with him, and certainly notice his absence today, but why would Breitbart Unmasked focus on me?

Any attempt to link me to this or that guy has invariably proven to be ‘Conflict Cupid’ efforts meant to get idiots to attack eachother. It’s sad when this works, and frustrating when you realize it worked on you.

But I don’t want to pretend I don’t get what this is about. Neal and Brett do not care all that much about me. They just know I’m friends with Patterico and Aaron. They weren’t trying to shut ME up. They were trying to shut THEM up, and you can see this if you just look at the pattern of harassment, which always tries to go after friends, family, and colleagues. They were making an appeal to the empathy and compassion of their enemies. Revealing.

There were other legitimate reasons to try to uncover the author of these posts. I believe some of them were posting images taken in courts (which is illegal) and I believe they also were posting images of Ali’s mother’s house.

When all this started hitting the Maryland courts, all the posts about people’s family and homes were deleted and I started seeing comments musing that this is a big nothing issue, and that Aaron and Brett were just the same. I saw a similar effort just before Aaron’s recent losses in Virginia.

I don’t think that kind of tactic should work, as it preys on ignorance that could be so easily remedied. The answer to bad speech is more speech, of course, but the answer to threatening speech or criminal behavior? Asking for a chance to know who did that? That’s not wrong.

It’s unfortunate if this effort fooled the Popehat reader (I haven’t seen the comment). I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that he was ignorant.

After all, Popehat’s poll shows that there are so many censorious asshats that it’s tough to keep up with all of them.

    Dustin (73fead)

  27. Done. Lessee if BK turns this into a “They love me” moment.

    Angelo (743b74)

  28. I’m not voting BK for that censorious asshat poll. Mostly because BK is head of the BK Crime Family not a censorious asshat. Censorious asshats are overblown, preening idiots, or ordinary filers of frivolous lawsuits.

Not violent, dangerous predators like BK. That’s a whole different league of vile debris.

So I voted for an annoying censorious asshat in the poll and didn’t check the violent criminal felon’s name.

    SPQR (768505)

  29. Did it right after seeing Mr Hoge’s blog entry.

    roy in nipomo (160066)

  30. R.I.P. General Norman Schwarzkopf

    Icy (792952)

  31. currently at 1052 pm est, kimberlin has a ten point lead with 31%.

    Calypso Louis Farrakhan (e799d8)

  32. Voted, and not just because I respect you and Stacy McCain. Annoying legal warfare is one thing, but Kimberlin’s harassment is in another league. When people moved out of their homes, lost their jobs, and could have died via SWATting, you have gone far beyond normal obnoxiousness.

    bridget (862c19)

Patterico – If I recall correctly, didn’t the Brettmeister attempt to subpoena information about you and some anonymous commenters on this blog early on in the Seth Allen litigation? Perhaps the good fellow opinining on Aaron’s litigation tactics over at Popehat is unaware of Sainted Brett’s actions?

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  34. I just voted for BK. He is winning with 31%, 387 Votes.

    Mattsky (c97938)

  35. Not violent, dangerous predators like BK. That’s a whole different league of vile debris.

    There’s a lot going for SPQR’s view.

    Dustin (73fead)

  36. I see that the Popehat commenter criticizing Aaron claims he represented Kimberlin on a legal matter previously.

    Dustin (73fead)

  37. It was a close call, but I went for BK. The University of California’s Advisory Council on Campus Climate, Culture, and Inclusion was a close runner up.

I also enjoyed the Downfall video linked there.

    Kevin M (bf8ad7)

  38. Also voted for the midget, drug smuggling, domestic terrorist, perjurer.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  39. It takes a special kind of asshat to have the kind of year Kimberlin has had (as if the last 30 weren’t bad enough). This guy’s lies just get to be so overwhelming that he needs special recognition. And a good, long, permanent stay in hell.

    Dirty Old Man (c53f09)

  40. i voted for the thug.

one day, if there is any justice, he will cross the wrong person, in the wrong place at the wrong time, and wind up DRT.

when he does, i will celebrate.

    redc1c4 (403dff)

  41. Done.

    School Marm (9085a6)

  42. I vote for Kimberlin as the f-king biggest asshat.

    Donald Douglas (@AmPowerBlog) (2ab83a)

  43. About time I voted for a winner.

    mg (31009b)

  44. Did it! BK is winning, so to speak

    KMM (CT) (a216d6)

  45. Voted for Brett

    EPWJ (e83e82)

  46. Done as soon as I saw he was in the running.

Poor Liberal Grouch is in a tizzy because Kimberlin was even nominated. At least that seems to be his problem, I haven’t bothered to read his whole article, just saw his tweets.

    Dustyn H (48c965)

  47. After reading one comment over there, I’m tempted to change my vote to Judge Vaughey. Kimberlin’s Censorious Asshattedness wouldn’t have been possible without the blatent abuse of the system by a willing judge.

But I think I’ll stick with Kimberlin. I have a problem with (alleged) pedophiles.

    egd (d580cc)

  48. I voted for the domestic terrorist.

    peter (dfde9b)

  49. peter, given the recent election, you’ll have to be more specific …

    SPQR (768505)

  50. I voted for Kimberlin because voting for the asshats of the Obama Dictatorship was just too easy,

    PCD (1d8b6d)

  51. I cast my vote.

    PatAZ (d52d8e)

  52. I voted for the pathetic K-wimper because he’s obviously the most deserving but also because it’s fun to imagine him blowing an brain aneurysm when he reads the total vote count.

    Desert_Rat45 (af65ec)

  53. Another vote for Kimberlin.

    Zoltan (2f9d0b)

  54. One more for the Brettster.

    PatriotRider (8894aa)

  55. Note that the Kimberlin crowd’s censorious asshats are, even as we speak, attempting to retaliate against me for linking Ken’s post and suggesting that Kimberlin deserves your vote.

They’re kinda making my point for me, aren’t they?

    Patterico (62908f)

  56. Every single person voting for Kimberlin and noting it here is making a courageous stand. These people go after my commenters too, including anonymous ones. They want to make an example out of each one of you, for daring to speak up.

By speaking up, you are showing the world, at some genuine risk to yourself, that their tactics won’t work.

I salute each and every one of you. I mean that.

    Patterico (62908f)

  57. Done. Because, it’s the right thing to do.

    Matador (638dbd)

  58. Voted. First time since 2000.

    CrustyB (69f730)

  59. They are not good people.

    JD (78d90b)

  60. Did I mention ealier that I voted for Brett Kimberlin as Popehat’s “Censorious Asshat of the Year” ? Because I did that too.

    Pious Agnostic (20c167)

  61. voted for Brett Kimberlin

He’s holding at 38%. Second is holding at 18%.

    That’s gotta hurt, huh Brett?

    Paul A'Barge (f558d4)

  62. Maybe Kimberlin will tick off the wrong person and put into a situation where he and his crew wished the Feds had only put them in Club Gitmo rather than what they got.

    PCD (1d8b6d)

  63. The problem I have is that Brett Kimberlin is not an asshat – he’s much worse than an asshat, so I would feel a little bad voting for him as the asshat of the year.

    Sammy Finkelman (d22d64)

  64. Maybe you can get Popehat to creat another category?

    Sammy Finkelman (d22d64)

  65. Done. Happy New Year to you and yours.

    Em (0af170)

  66. Brett Kimberlin, to no surprise. To quote my late Father, “How come there are more horses a$$es than horses?” Of course, this maligns horses.

    Dave (6cafbc)

  67. Voted for Kimberlin. If he wins, can we all raise a virtual glass?

There were many strong contenders in that poll, but I have come to really despise Brett Kimberlin.

    Dianna (f12db5)

  68. So many viable candidates. But — I voted for Brett Kimberlin, because if anybody deserves that award, it’s him.

    JT (7de114)

  69. Done, go get him.

    Greg (071888)

  70. Voted.

    Silk (3320fa)

  71. The worst thing is he’ll be proud of winning.

    SarahW (b0e533)

  72. “These people go after my commenters too, including anonymous ones.”

Heh. Bring it on; I’m in Texas…

    Rusty Bill (e3b0ca)

  73. Yup. Ha. Betty Kimberlin, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.

    papertiger (e55ba0)

  74. voted for bk the other day but forgot to post.

    BradnSA (4ee3f9)

  75. done,i voted kimberlin because in my opinion a coward who would use a swat team in hopes of killing a critic is clearly a bigger asshat than the rest of the drivel in the field of canidates, after all the rest of the drivel arent murdering cowards……..[i cant verify that though]

    old cowboy (f24682)

  76. I just read that story about China requiring everyone on the internet to register…

The sad thing about Popehat’s poll and the news lately is that there is stiff competition to be the most censorious.

It’s great if Kimberlin’s example leads many to become more aware of this issue… hopefully people are reading more about the other poll competitors, for example. I wouldn’t want them to be eclipsed out of being known for what they’ve done.

    Dustin (73fead)

  77. I voted for the BK killer; although, I was giving serious consideration to doing a write-in vote for the parents of one of the kids that was uninjured in the Newtown massacre, but are suing the school district for $100 million for ’emotional distress’ anyway.

    Icy (0f11d2)

  78. That’s for a different contest, Icy. Interesting, though. So many hoaxes have attached to this case, including that one guy who sues under other people’s names (Uncle “Fantapt” guy). It might not be for reals. If it is I would wonder what legal theory of liability would cover this. Unless the attack were foreseeable and/or they failed to act on some warning given, I can’t see how the school, which did NOT let him in, could be liable.

    SarahW (b0e533)

  79. Oh, the suit’s for real. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/29/16233914-lawyer-for-newtown-shooting-survivor-seeks-to-file-100-million-lawsuit?lite

But hasn’t any legs, unlewss they had warning this mad 20yo was targeting schoolbabies – it was not foreseeable and reasonable safety precautions existed for forseeable risks.

    SarahW (b0e533)

  80. Seems more like a stunt to force people to “Do Something.”

    SarahW (b0e533)

  81. Icy, still, I’m suspicious of glomming-on and fakery. A stunt, maybe even client fishing. The parent’s names are not included in the suit (“Jill Doe” only).

Then there is this very horrible person:
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/12/29/woman-newtown-fraud-sandy/1797927/

    SarahW (b0e533)

  82. Yeah, I don’t know, Sarah. I saw the story on Reuters and thought it was worth noting. Whether it’s the parents of an actual student or just a lizard lawyer, some ghoul is looking to cash in on this tragedy.

    Icy (0f11d2)

  83. Pinsky has a dodgy discipline record, though one of his reprimands was famously overturned…he was suspended in CT for a min of one year, effective May 2003, apparently for improper hndling of a minors personal injury claim. It looks ro me like he missed the statute of limitations and didnt hanle it properly. He did not meet all the conditions and reapply tothe read titled until 2007.

He has done stunt lawyering for Occupy, and was mentioned in ad age for some unconventional legal advertising that’d or a business that denied having anything to do with the advertising. http://adage.com/article/media/a-brand-nbc-s-today-show-free/134241/

    SarahW (b0e533)

  84. To the read = to be readmitted. Auto correct having fun at my expense …..

    SarahW (b0e533)

  85. BK is up to 742 votes including mine.

    Ipso Fatso (1e3278)

  86. Comment by The snarky Dana (f68855) — 12/30/2012 @ 11:05 am in the “I Stand with Popehat on the Erik Loomis Story” (comment 104 there)

I do not think that people should vote for Brett Kimberlin for Asshat of the Year. He’d probably enjoy the award, so it’s much better if he comes in second or third or fourth.

I am thinking of writing in Judge Cornelius J. Vaughey (his name was suggested in comment number 47 in this thread by egd)

But I would the two names for some purposes to be added together.

    Sammy Finkelman (dfa011)

  87. Nice post. I was checking constantly this blog and I am inspired! Extremely helpful info specially the remaining phase 🙂 I handle such information a lot. I was seeking this particular info for a long time. Thank you and best of luck.
