57. In comment 33, Mark argued that JFK was murdered by an ultra liberal - also that Sirhan Sirhan came from a background associated with caressing and stroking by the left.

I argued that neither of them was motivated by anything like liberalism,or even leftism, and I went into what I though were their motives.

The bottom line is that those assassinations are not a precedent for hating George Bush the Elder.

And they had nothing to do with American politics, as ordinarily understood.

"He’s in a California prison – he doesn’t have a twitter handle! Who do you think he is, Charles Manson? (who smuggled in a cell phone)"

Sammy - The topic of the thread is Ghouls on Twitter. WTF do Sirhan Sirhan and Oswald have to do with the topic?

J. Edgar Hoover used to think (or right) that all the Communist were motivated by the thought they were doing the right. I think that was a complete misunderstanding of Communists.

40. Comment by Mark (94cc2f) — 12/27/2012 @ 9:55 pm

SF: "Lee Harvey Oswald didn’t have any good intentions."

So why was he so smitten by Communism?

Ambition. There are fewer people who want to join the bad guys than the good guys, so he felt he had greater chance of becoming somebody important. And to rise, he'd mostly have to do evil things, rather than difficult things, and even if some of it was difficult, there was less competition.

And in the Rosenberg case, the Communists looked well organized.

Why did he buy into a belief system supposedly dedicated to helping the proletariat, the working man, the quietly suffering masses yearning to breathe free.

He didn't buy into that at all. Where do see one thing that he bought into that? He just repeated lies he knew to be lies. He tried to be a propaganist for Castro - that led nowhere.

When he said "police brutality" on November 22, 1963, do you think he believed it?

He thought the Communists would help him, since he was on their "team" and asked for a certain lawyer who had defended Communists.

Sammy – What is Sirhan Sirhan’s twitter handle?

There is another Sirhan Sirhan on Twitter, maybe more, but not Sirhan Bishara Sirhan.

Finkelman, we have only the word of a faux KGB defector that Oswald was stupid about how the Soviet Union worked.

Are you talking about the person James Angleton claimed was faux?

But in any case what I meant was he didn't understand the way they approached the Cold War.

He thought (I think) that if the United States was the enemy of the Soviet Union, they'd appreciate him killing the president.

51. Steve….I’ve got this great BBQ recipe left over from the Great Spotted Owl Hunt – but it requires old redwood firewood.

OK, so as long as (a) they bring ammo for the dove hunt or (b) they chop up the decks they built around their hot tubs and bring the redwood lumber, then we let them in?

I'm cool with it.

45. The cure for the West Coast states would be to ship back all Californians who moved out of state with their profits from selling their inflated priced homes before the bust, then build a wall to keep them and the Mexican illegals in. Wait a decade, then reclaim the land and bury the dead.

Tejas would be missing a couple of restaurants and a couple of dozen employed people if that rule had been applied to me.

We're not all the same. As a matter of fact, some day you Tejicans will be glad I'm on your team. I can spot a Kali fifth columnist loooong before somebody who's never been amongst them can.

What's important, and let not lose focus on this, is invading Mexico and the BBQ after the victory dove shoot.
