Or at least someone who can articulate the message like this.

  1. I’ll vote for him.

    Patterico (8b3905)

  2. Absolutely.

  3. And not a teleprompter to be found.

  4. Thanks for sharing this one.

This is exactly what we need in a candidate. Sincere communication. The candidates with principles couldn’t communicate well and the candidates who were smooth had no principles… so we need to improve on this in 2012.

Unfortunately, things will be grim by then.

    Dustin (73fead)

  5. I was going to say that Bill, unlike the current holder of the office, has enough sense to know that he’s probably not qualified to be President. But then again, haven’t the last two elections proved that nobody needs to actually be qualified for anything anymore?

    Joe Miller (00407a)

  6. Joe, Republicans have to be qualified because if they aren’t, the media will make a huge issue out of it. The last two elections prove that democrats do not need to be qualified because the media doesnt care (yet the last four years of performance shows that an unqualified president leads to a lot of problems).

That makes sense. What qualification beyond power to you need to give people free stuff?

    Dustin (73fead)

  7. It’s a uphill battle, but one worth engaging in, provided that the candidates don’t have skeletons in their closets.

Watch how the MSM tries to destroy Rubio prior to ’16. Add to that the low info voters, those ever increasing people on some sort of government assistance, the hard left…ect.

And then what do you have? 47% already baked in the Democratic cake?

    Sorry.

I see no light at the end of the tunnel, especially if Zero adds more progs to SCOTUS.

The de-leveraging from the conservative message which began under Bush 41 is irreparable.

  8. No, the only qualification, they require is belief,
in their mindset, it doesn’t even matter as with Red Herring, that you actually ‘don’t walk the walk’ in fact it’s more convenient that one ca’t or won’t.

    narciso (ee31f1)

  9. scott, I don’t see America changing her mind without a true economic crisis.

That’s the real problem with our election. It wasn’t just our candidates (though they weren’t good). America actually is choosing what we’re getting. The country wants dependency and entitlement spending, and is not very concerned about the price our kids will pay.

It’s difficult for me to accept, and I don’t see people of low character pulling away from this mentality of mooching when the road gets rocky. I see them blaming others and demanding more assistance, causing the problem to get worse.

But it can’t go on forever, and there will eventually be some very harsh lessons. At that point, I pray the country learns what socialism is really about, and turns away from this.

In the meantime, buy durable goods and learn how to garden.

    Dustin (73fead)

  10. Bill needs to get on the speaking circuit.

    convict# (31009b)

  11. Dustin- Learn how to garden. One of the greatest joys on earth.

    mg (31009b)

  12. Dustin,

I’ve found many such preppers in my work life and have taken small incremental steps to adjust to how things might be. By and large they’re all rational people, but i find they’re just hedging the bet.

The garden will be doubled, NG generator, water purifier and I’m considering a gun purchase then a C&C.

Funny though, my family thinks buying a 28′ ChrisCraft or a Boston Whaler is a better option than purchasing some land in SE Ohio.

    scott (b8618e)

  13. When Whittle mentions that people on the right don’t believe strongly enough in what they’re espousing or, certainly, are suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, that’s sort of a variation of how many folks in general tend to tip toe around the way that ideological biases are at the core of what makes many humans tick. So people will flinch and instead of describing someone as being “leftist” or “hard-core liberal,” etc, will describe a person as being a “leftie” or “progressive” — and certainly never toy with the idea of “limousine liberal” — because it’s otherwise perceived as being in bad taste or poor manners.

A lack of seeing and describing people for what they really are — ideologically — is evident in the way our nation’s savior, who now occupies the White House, is relating to Egypt’s current president.

    therightscoop.com, November 25:

[Former UN ambassador John] Bolton weighed in on the crisis in Egypt this morning, noting that he believes the worst outcome would be an agreement between the military and the Muslim Brotherhood that would exclude the pro-democracy faction and give the Muslim Brotherhood political dominance.

In response to a quote where Obama praised Morsi, saying he was impressed with Morsi who moved with an “engineer’s precision” and little ideology, Bolton said this shows Obama’s blindness to what motivates Morsi and is a “bad, bad sign for the US and Middle East in the weeks and months ahead.”

Oh, and an obscure video posted to Youtube.com a few months ago really upset — really hurt the feelings of — a lot of otherwise decent, down-to-earth, reasonable, civilized, humane, sensible people—in the Middle East and elsewhere.

    Mark (01c836)

  14. Mark,

    Just askin’.

What if Bolton misinterprets Obama’s ME foreign policy?

What if Obama’s aim in the ME is the reestablishment of the caliphate?

Note, he didn’t lift a hand a few years ago w/the student uprising in Iran.

    scott (b8618e)

  15. No, he doesn’t really understand that point, it is his antiWestern viewpoint that disposes him in that direction,

    narciso (ee31f1)

  16. Whittle has great skill at explication of our ideas.

    SPQR (768505)

  17. This. This is reality, realism, and real Realpolitik. If Romney is like Washington, Whittle is like Jefferson. With a touch of Jackson.

  18. Stirring, except for the little detail that the Apollo space program was government conceived and funded.

The problem isn’t the message, it’s the mixed messages.

  19. Watched this over the weekend – WOW!

Try to think who among our “Constellation of Political GOP Stars” could talk this long, saying this much, extemporaneously?

Bill is just the sort of person who should run for President, and never will due to the poisonous political climate that he would have to endure.

    askeptic (b8ab92)

  20. Bill Whittle says that the next President of the United States will be a person, who when asked about the Second Amendment, pulls out a gun?

This is what the New York Times says today:

    Sammy Finkelman (d22d64)

  22. … Apollo space program was government conceived and funded.

Umm, for some values of “government conceived”. The researchers at NACA and LaRC did get government paychecks, but the ideas flowed from there to the government (which frequently had to be goaded into funding projects), not from the government to NACA. Now the Shuttle program did flow from government … NASA’s plans were very different.

SF, I don’t think he says “it will be”, but someone “who should”.

If you asked the Governor of TX, and many other states about the 2nd-A, they would/could do the same, if they so wished.

    askeptic (b8ab92)

  24. I’m sure you are aware of Kennedy’s speech htom.

    Dry Powder (3d5492)

  25. If giving a speech was the standard, Obama would be the greatest inventor in history.

    JD (2fe45d)

  26. Yes, the content of his speeches are great inventions, though ones not supported by facts or objective proof.

    askeptic (b8ab92)

  27. I see no light at the end of the tunnel, especially if Zero adds more progs to SCOTUS.

The de-leveraging from the conservative message which began under Bush 41 is irreparable.

Scott, the flaw in this argument is that there’s a hidden downside (not so much “hidden” as “not commented upon, EVER”) to the Dems winning in 2012… Ahminajad is going to get his nukes.

I do not believe Ahminajad will be able to restrain himself from using them long before he has a serious quantity of them sufficient to be a true world threat. I believe he’s too much of a fanatic for that. And he also doesn’t believe that Israel is stupid enough to let him build up a huge stockpile before he strikes. So he’s going to hit when he has 2, 3,4, or 5 of them. And that, folks, is the one situation where NO ONE likes a Democrat in charge. EVERYONE — even the dems — knows that a Republican will always do a better job in that top spot. The farthest left will whine and caterwaul and complain that the REAL threat is America, but the vast majority are smart enough to either know better or not give a rodent’s patootie about that.

So the PotUS elected in 2016 has a really huge chance of being GOP. Much more so than anyone currently grasps, near as I can see, because no one seems to see or ack that world-at-war context.

  28. Democrats seem oblivious to the damage that Obama is doing to the Democrat brand. Look at the number of governorships and state legislatures that are controlled by GOP. Democrats are marginalized into a NY-LA-SF ghetto and think because Obama barely won a fear-based campaign that they are “winning”. In fact in 2016, I expect Democrats to be just as marginalized at the national level when the cult of personality deflates and they are left holding the bag by Obama for his manifest failures.

    SPQR (d2ee00)

  29. Bill is just the sort of person who should run for President, and never will due to the poisonous political climate that he would have to endure.

I think Bill would be better still as campaign manager and then Chief of staff. Let the figureheads do the busywork, and let him help manage and direct the nuts and bolts.

I’ve been a big fan of Whittle’s for almost a decade, now, since first encountering his essays on Eject! Eject! Eject! ca. 2003ish.

He’s always done a good job at cutting through, past, and around the opposition BS and putting forth The Right Case.

Unfortunately, the stuff on E!E!E! has fallen largely off the internet, but you can still access some of it through the Wayback Machine.

Here’s a starter link for some of you, who haven’t read his NEAR FLAWLESS essays… They are long, but worth the read.

  30. Dry Powder — Apollo (the idea and plan) started under Eisenhower; Kennedy dumped in the barrel of money it needed for implementation.

    htom (412a17)

  31. I have some chores to do in the kitchen and I’m going to listen to this again. Maybe if he won’t run for President, he’ll at least become a speech writer for a President who will act like Whittle’s speeches!

    htom (412a17)

  32. 23 @askeptic

No, he really does say that.

He finishes off by saying that he thinks that the next President will come from popular culture (not politics) and then he gives how this person (and that’s really will, not should) will answer the gun control question.

By disregarding everything the National Rifle Association says about gun safety: Treat every gun as loaded. Don’t point it at anyone. Don’t wave it around.

Somebody tell Bill Whittle that Clint Eastwood will be 86 years old in 2016. And actually Clint Eastwood wouldn’t do that. Not even in a television commercial. Maybe Joe Manchin, the West Virginian. But he’s a Democrat.

Earlier, Bill Whittle does give proposed answers.

What Mitt Romney should have said about having $250 million “in the bank” And for that matter, $40 million invested abroad.

    Sammy Finkelman (ab7073)

  33. Htom, maybe so, yet my point is still made.

    Dry Powder (3d5492)

  34. Sammy, you’re confusing the NRA and Col Cooper, and not getting either correct.

Dry, no, it’s not, because most people don’t think of government science research lab ideas as “government” ideas — they think that those come from politicians.

    htom (412a17)

  35. Htom – dry powder aka true American is a serial sock puppeteer. You are trying to have an actual discussion with someone who does not come in good faith.

    JD (318f81)

  36. Then it’s a mixed message, like I said above. If the message depends on presuming a specific (and incorrect) view it cannot be considered useful. The appeal should be to the truth, not to a false belief…this is exactly the Republican problem.

  38. SF, have you ever fired a gun, or owned a gun, or taken any kind of gun training/safety class?

If you’re speaking at a podium, and you want to make a point, reaching to your holster, withdrawing the pistol therein, and holding it in your hand (as long as it’s not pointed at anyone – think of raising your right-hand and taking an oath, but having a pistol in it; or Charlton Heston at the NRA Convention when they presented him with that Pennsylvania/Kentucky Rifle, and he held it over his head and proclaimed “From my cold, dead hands!”), that is the image BW is thinking about.

    And remember:
Effective gun-control is hitting what you’re aiming at.

    askeptic (b8ab92)

  39. What a paranoid fool you are jd, and ironic as well since I’ve rarely read anything of yours that amounts to a real discussion. So you try to ensure no one else can have one either I guess. Well you can’t control what other people think or do no matter how much you wish you could.

    Dry Powder (3d5492)

  40. You didn’t comment under those names previously? Was there someone else using your computer?

Your assertion that I wish to be able to control what others think is laughable, as is your assertion that I would attempt to keep others from having a real discussion.

    JD (518ff4)

  41. But that’s exactly what you’re trying to do by interjecting nonsense.

    Powder Dry (3d5492)

  42. Except it is not nonsense. It is true.

    JD (518ff4)

  43. Stirring, except for the little detail that the Apollo space program was government conceived and funded.

Yes, nobody said it was perfect. It was a great achievement despite being run by the government, and its consequent ultimate failure. Now imagine if it had been done properly, by some Delos D Harriman.

    Milhouse (15b6fd)

  44. 43- Did he retire in Luna City!!

    mg (31009b)

  45. 43- Did he retire in Luna City!!

    No.

    Milhouse (15b6fd)

  46. He could not be more right about presenting the message.

I’ve tried to find an area on which I could compromise in order to win elections. Can’t find one. Immigration? Nope. Over-spending? Uh-uh. Foreign policy? No way.

We are absolutely right on all these and other vital issues. It must be the way that we’re presenting them.

If someone forms a Draft Whittle committee, sign me up.

    NeoCon_1 (cd9f7b)

  47. People are worrying about “qualifications”. The candidate simply needs to articulate positions on issues that people can understand and support; THAT’S IT!

Bill has this ability like no other. If we nominate him, we’d have a 45 state landslide.
