Problems with Sidebar
At the suggestion of a couple of readers, I tried to move up the Amazon widget on the sidebar. Memo to non-techy bloggers: don’t mess with your main index template without saving the previous one! Now I am having all kinds of problems with the appearance of the right margin. I’m trying to get help from an old friend. In the meantime, I want to make sure the Amazon widget is available to you. Here it is. You can search for items through this box, and any purchases you make at Amazon from the same browser tab will benefit my site, at no cost to you.
Sorry about the recent comments issue. We’ll try to get it resolved.

I don’t feel guilty for laughing.

First the sidebar, now the comments themselves aren’t loading completely, or are partial versions of their former selves.

Can’t comment is the Petraeus thread at all.

From ABC:
A source familiar with the case also told ABC News that Broadwell admitted to the FBI she took documents from secure government buildings. The government demanded that they all be given back, and when federal agents descended on her North Carolina home on Monday night it was a pre-arranged meeting.

I can’t scroll down to the bottom of other threads to leave comments, but perhaps that’s for the best.

Is it fixed now?

“Recent comments: none found” probably indicates the absence of a file, or a file in the wrongs subdirectory. I have seen that before when I had connection problems.
Incidentally, if in addition to the last ten comments, you could have the last ten threads that would be good.

Sarahw,
Every time you double post on your iPad, I feel better.

Only this time: NO IPAD! ::spooky music::
The comments are so very balky today.

Hm..looks like C.S.P. hit a triple.
Comment by Dana (292dcf) — 11/14/2012 @ 12:23 pm
Yeah, I did. But I don’t think it was on my end. I certainly only hit “submit comment” once, and there it stuck for a long time. Maybe my magic elf box tripled on its own.
Just mentioning in case it would help with diagnosis.

Patterico – Thought experiment, put the widget back where it was.
Comment by daleyrocks (bf33e9) — 11/14/2012 @ 2:23 pm
Hey, just a quick FYI, if anybody is looking at getting a WiiU eventually Amazon will have some in stock and remember to use the widget here.

Holy cats!
Patterico is all messed up and PJ Media is getting an upgrade.
And, right when I was in the mood to talk about the big scandal too.
TANJ.

Yeah, I tried that first thing.
It didn’t work.
We’re working on it right now.

I thought I’d use one of your double posts to say the same thing is happening to me.
It either hangs for a very long time or I get a “connection was reset” error message. Often both.

I recommend you consider installing Disqus or IntenseDebate commenting system, the better to track conversations from a user’s dashboard.

Web sites in general keep taking longer and longer to download. I don’t think it’s the main site, it’s the advertising linked to the sites. I have not noticed it here yet, but I cannot go to some sites because it chokes my feed. I cannot view some sites because the stuff they are linked to crashes my browser.
Avoid the “Gee whiz, look at all the neat stuff we can put on the web” type of “help”, please. Not everyone has the latest browsers and a firehose feed to the intertubes.

This seems to go off and on.
The sidebar is a separate file. Each comment page is a separate file. When you get a partial version, that means the download has timed out.
Whatever is going on, that’s causing Patterico to time out more readily.
time out
