Daily Caller: Democrat Senator (Under)Paid for Sex

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:41 am

The Daily Caller:

Two women from the Dominican Republic told The Daily Caller that Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez paid them for sex earlier this year.

In interviews, the two women said they met Menendez around Easter at Casa de Campo, an expensive 7,000 acre resort in the Dominican Republic. They claimed Menendez agreed to pay them $500 for sex acts, but in the end they each received only $100.

Has this man learned nothing from the Secret Service? Don’t short-change the foreign prostitute.

His spokesholes are calling the women liars:

Asked about the allegations, Menendez spokeswoman Tricia Enright refused to answer any questions on the subject. “We’re not going to respond to a completely false accusation,” she wrote by email.

OK then.

THE REAL OUTRAGE: I’m less offended by the payment for sex than I am by his breaking his word. Why, if he can’t keep a promise made to a hot prostitute from the Dominican Republic (there are no pictures, but we all have our mental images from the Secret Service incident), how, I ask you, can he be expected to keep his promises to the voters, with whom he doesn’t even want to have sexual relations (with the admitted exception of a handful of housewives in Trenton)?

Again: I ask you.

These Senators. They woo you with compliments (you’re “beautiful”; I need your vote), get you to compromise yourself, and then you get only 20% of what you were promised.

And then he short-changes you to boot! (Rim shot.)

  2. The “intermediary” (pimp) got $500.00 and gave the girl $100.00. For crying out loud, Patterico, you know these people.

In any case, I do not care what his party is. Dominican whores’ words have no place in American Senatorial elections.

  5. In any case, whores need to live too, and what else are they good for? I’m not a man who swims in sewers, but I do not blame men who provide whores a living. (Their pimps are a different matter.)

  6. JD,

I tend to agree. Menendez was appointed to fill an empty seat? No way he was not cavity searched before his appointment. If he had whore tendencies, it would have come out, and he would have been off the short list. (Pun intended 😉 )

    nk (875f57)

  7. “Again: I ask you” well, then, I’ll tell you: he will beg for forgiveness, ask for redemption, and then come back as an even harder preogressive/socialist. Look at how clinton is revered. Look at how Spitzer is making his way back into political circles. Come on: he’s a Democrat and there are wealthy people to fleece, and a middle class to destroy. He’s got work to do.

  8. Perhaps the ladies decided they could get more money by either selling their story or blackmailing the Senator?

The Senator is not only immoral, but also stupid to give strangers that much power over him. I hope he’s never been privy to any State secrets.

    Dustin (73fead)

  9. NK,

Many women in prostitution are trapped there.

The reason that men such as the Secret Service agents and Senator Jerk from NJ think they can get away with cheating the prostitutes out of money, is because people propagate the notion that prostitutes aren’t good for anything else.

I saw a recent photo of him and he’s oddly overweight or strangely obese. He must have his tongue down a lot of anything that packs on the calories.

I (and I imagine growing percentages of the public) have become so desensitized through the years (Hi, Monica and Bill!), that these type of stories no longer have the same impact they once did.

That should be kept in mind when theorizing the way that human nature can be altered so that various forms of corruption no longer seem quite so bad or bothersome. I now have a greater grasp of the meaning behind the ancient story of Sodom and the character of Lot.

    Deviancy defined down, way down.

Are you saying he’s part of our culture’s desenstization of vice? That’s not a very nice thing to say. I see it the other way around. Electing leadership that doesn’t look like Ken or Barbie opens up the possibility of evaluating who is a good leader.

For a NE Republican, Christie has many good leadership qualities. It would be unfortunate for his physical appearance to have any impact politically. Same for Mitch Daniels, who doesn’t look like a strong leader, but actually is one.

I (and I imagine growing percentages of the public) have become so desensitized through the years (Hi, Monica and Bill!), that these type of stories no longer have the same impact they once did.

I agree with you on that. I’m imagining if someone I actually knew behaved like this: prostitutes, infidelity, etc. It’s disgusting and extreme. And thanks largely to Bill Clinton’s scandal, this is something we almost expect out of our politicians. It’s sad.

Are you saying he’s part of our culture’s desenstization of vice?

Actually, Dustin, I’m saying he looks like a heart attack waiting to happen. But if health check-ups indicate he’s quite fit (and his heart isn’t crying out: “help me, help me!”), then I’d revise my reaction to the way he looks. It goes without saying that I’d obviously favor him for political office (although he does have his share of squish—ie, the ideological kind) versus a liberal/Democrat.

BTW, when people want another symbol of how even the supposed experts can get something blatantly wrong — for years and years — keep in mind all the decades of the public being warned about the perils of fat — fat! — in food. And, in turn, almost nothing (or far less) said about a diet laden with sugar. Moreover, unlike the issue of global warming, the human body isn’t quite as vast and complicated as the Earth’s climate is.

A chief violation included his failure to pay 17 years’ worth of taxes on rental income from the Dominican Republic property.

…Another $100,000 to $250,000 in profits was “in transit,” according to Rangel’s account. His spokeswoman could not immediately explain how funds from a December, 2010, sale were still “in transit” when Rangel filed the financial forms last month.

I’m guessing because the New Jersey Democrat hadn’t was still in arrears to the New York Democrat for his last third world romp.

Yup. In my opinion, this is a consequence of government intrusion as well. To keep food prices stable (and thus less of a political issue) we want to rely on corn and corn syrup, which is heavily subsidized and in almost everything.

America started getting fatter about when the government decided to go down that path.

You know, happy (and others), I think this is way off base. Christie is first and foremost the no-nonsense Governor of New Jersey and right now the nonsense is partisan politics. He needs federal money, fast, to help his people put things back together and it’s just insane to expect him to bash Obama right at the moment.

Matter of fact, Romney would embrace it and spin it as “an example of how Republicans work across the aisle when we need to get things done.”

And then bash the MSM for trying to turn it into a partisan issue.

    Agreed.

The people of his state are counting on Christie, and he’s not letting them down.

New Jersey helps pay for FEMA and other federal programs. While it is a good idea to revisit whether we should have those programs, so long as we have them, they are entitled to benefit from them.

  53. Menendez was appointed by Corzine then won the seat in the 2006 election. I remember some of his ads since Philly TV covers S. Jersey. My recollection is he was quick to go along with the worst of the “Bush lied” stuff. My impression of him was negative enough to write him off for being worthy of respect until proven otherwise.
His Wikipedia entry isn’t all that complimentary and is quick to use words like “corrupted”. We all know Wikipedia is not the best source for political info, but when it is negative about a Democrat it probably means something.

It does seem that when the public learns about such things involving Dems they aren’t all that surprised, hence they don’t suffer that much politically. Maybe that says more about the people who voted them in in the first place.

Quite seriously — and not dealing with what you’re referring to — and not wanting to sound like a buttinsky towards the owner, but I can’t figure out why Pat, on one hand, wants to boost the number of visitors to his blog (and presumably its board posters too) — as he said to a new user last week on a video chat — then, on the other hand, doesn’t adjust his site’s forum to make it less of an outlier.

America started getting fatter about when the government decided to go down that path.

What drives me nuts is to see all the products that still tout “low fat” or “non-fat,” while far fewer items proclaim “low sugar” or “reduced sugar.” The “non-sugar” label doesn’t count because in almost all instances it’s on products that contain crappy fake sugar. BTW, they’ve done studies that found synthetic sugar apparently actually triggers obesity in humans as much as real sugar does.

And some folks actually remain confident in the various experts who’ve been claiming for some time now that global warming is caused by the stuff we breathe out every few seconds?

Maybe that says more about the people who voted them in in the first place.

And that’s why it’s not being snarky or very partisan to say that corruption (ie, various forms of it—from cultural to economic) tends to be incubated by and flourish when liberalism, as embraced by political figures and voters, is the prevailing sentiment of the day.

BTW, is it not correct to notice that this board doesn’t exactly attract a large number of users—new, old or returning? I do like the non-congested nature of it, and I don’t expect (or want) the huge volume of posters drawn to sites like hotair.com or huffingtonpost.com (phooey). 62. – Most of the other blogs that I used to comment on (not that there were many) have all “updated” to various formats where one logs in through Twitter or FB or Yahoo or youwho or whatever.
I don’t post at any of them anymore, though a few I read and if I feel strongly enough about something I will shoot an email into the author.
    – As far as the appearance/optics go, I learned to read with the printed page, I like it fine. I know people can have perception difficulties and perhaps this format is difficult for some, but most of us don’t have that problem.
    – Sites that have branch points comments descending from one comment are annoying to me- on one hand I understand the concept and see that it is worthwhile, but often the same subject is discussed multiple places and it takes forever to hunt it all down if one wants-unless there is commonly a way to manipulate the comments as a data base that I don’t know how to do.
    – It would be interesting to know how often people try to read a whole thread and see what has already been said and how often people just comment on the original post and/or the last few comments posted.
    – the one thing I would like to see, which I don’t really expect because it would take some work by the editors/moderators, would be to mark comments felt to be especially helpful by their originality (worthwhile, that is) or ability to summarize a lengthy discussion so people can bypass whack-troll-when they want.

Well, I’d say they screwed him over pretty good.

Thanks, Pious, for responding to the question.

Whenever one has much to lose, like power and fame and wealth, and you risk it through illegal and or illicit interactions with those who don’t have much of anything to lose, you’ve compromised yourself. Perhaps a bunch of this is made up or greatly distorted, but then again there is sometimes an “honor among thieves”, and no one wants to be taken advantage of. Then again, did they get a hefty fee for selling their story?

  108. I read an interesting book called Soiled Doves, about prostitution in the old west towns, mining camps, etc. Some were widows from the east who had no family support or other financial resources, and some of the madams were crack businesspeople who were among the most highly respected, trusted, and compassionate individuals in that rough and male dominated milieu. Some of the “girls” died in terrible conditions– and some of them married lonely rich miners who were grateful to have them as cherished wives for the rest of both their lives.

The book’s not all that well written, but the historical documentation and case study stories of real women was fascinating. Hint: the matriarchs of a not insignificant number of old California families started out as “fallen women”.

    elissa (d23274)

  109. elissa,

Soiled Doves sounds very interesting. I’ve always thought that if there were a time period in our history where women really were more frequently than not trapped in prostitution, it was during the old west. You were either a wife or a school teacher or a prostitute. The choices were indeed scant. When one had nothing but their vagina to negotiate with, their future in the rough and tumble communities of mining camps, start-up towns, etc. was certainly limited.

Deadwood gave life to this conundrum for so many. Which is why I only lasted 1/2 of the first season. Too much to take.

And of course, in many places throughout the world, women are indeed trapped in that line of work and have very little possibility of exiting.

    Dana (292dcf)

  110. The famous Earps and Doc Holliday farmed out their women, too. The Earps took their wives out of the cribs when they left Kansas, Doc Holliday kept Big Nose Kate on her back to supply him with whiskey money in Tombstone.

I’ll stay with my statement that no woman is trapped into prostitution. Instead of spreading her legs she can just put one foot in front of the other and walk away. But then she’d need to find another way to feed herself, her drug habit, and her pimp.

I like women. I do not respect prostitutes. In this instance, of this post, I do not give credence to prostitutes and pimps.

  135. ___________________________________________

Yeah, I hope Mark doesn’t want this blog to have a Gawker-type threading system where you have to open each thread individually and then backtrack to the main post when done. I hate that format.

Yea, that format is unnecessary or can become ridiculous. I saw one message board where there were so many replies to replies — sort of like Chinese boxes — that the messages ended up in super narrow columns.

I am very used to this comment layout, I grew up with the printed page, and I think this is just fine.

Even traditional printed pages have long followed a format where horizontal rules (ie lines) would separate one section of a page or article from the other. I wouldn’t be curious about this matter if Patterico.com were attracting plenty of new users or holding onto lots of existing visitors as other forums do. If that were the case, I’d have to come up with other guesses for why people are unenthusiastic (at least unconsciously) about using this interface.

But to get back to the topic of this thread: If the media is going to ignore something as major and appalling as Benghazi, and if too many Americans continue to kiss sleazy Bill Clinton’s butt, is it any surprise that the exploits of a Senator from New Jersey — even when publicized — have about as much impact as a wet rag?
