Obama Calls Himself “Eye Candy”

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:36 pm

Shudder.

When host and veteran journalist Barbara Walters kidded Michelle Obama about bringing the president as her “date,” Obama quipped, “I’ve been told I’m just eye candy here.”…

During the show, the Obamas joked about their upcoming anniversary and presented the hosts with White House cloth napkins, golf balls, candy and bottles of Obama’s home-brewed beer. The couple’s 20th anniversary will fall on the day of the first presidential debate, Oct. 3.

“Our first wedding anniversary, I totally forgot,” Michelle dead-panned.

The president jokingly responded: “Cold.”

Shoot me now so I don’t accidentally see a minute of this.

  4. He’s “I” candy…is there anyone who speaks of me, myself, and I more than the Obamessiah ?

  5. He obviously never learned from his Momma or Grandmomma that you don’t compliment yourself. It’s called manners. Of course, the “girls” probably ate it up.

I should have included the men in his life also.

  6. Actually, I think the President of the United States of America and the leader of the free world told the truth on “The View.”

    He is eye candy.

He is the eye-candy fracking leader of a once-great nation that probably will elect him again. Because of the eye-candyness.

Jesus wept while half of the nation jumped up and shouted “Yeah, baby!”

    The press is mute.

  11. I realize he’s putting words in Michelle’s mouth, but who says this kind of thing about himself?

  12. He also got the phrase wrong. If you’re someone’s date or more precisely consort, you’re called “arm candy,” not “eye candy.”

He’s constantly screwing up everyday tropes and cliches. “Shoot first, aim later.”

    Chipperoo (72b8e3)

  13. Yea. And Romney is the best choice. After all he wants to save 47 percent of Americans who are broke, dependent on govt and feeling entitled to govt support and with a victim mentality. Yes. Romney is tha mon! 🙂
    But wait….

  15. One more thing. Was that a diss at the hostesses of the View? Hasselbeck’s pretty fine, but the rest, I mean, “moo!”

  16. gg-that’s an interesting and encouraging poll. You know that it’s skewed heavily democrat when more people say that President Obama would stop to help them if their car was broken down alongside the road than Mitt. Really? Mr. I vote “present” pants crease mom jeans eye candy would deign to stop and help on his way to the golf course or to Beyonce’s fundraiser???

  20. 18. There are a host of schemes to throw a poll. The sampling skew is easy to cover, the media just doesn’t care to hide their bias anymore.

Forty days to go and the bottom is eroding under Urkel’s feet and Romany is finding his sea legs.

The wailing, bawling and frightful mewling is going to be unbearable. I don’t expect the Left to worry until the final week and the shock of a 10+ point swing overnight will be impossible to accept.

The thinking (or naivete) behind that is the reason I occasionally post snippets of surveys and studies that indicate the characteristics that many on the left (and, regrettably, others) associate with liberalism (“it’s on the side of humaneness, tolerance, beautiful populism, generosity, compassion, and benevolence!!!”) actually are more likely to apply to conservatives, and visa versa.

  23. We are seeing the death of the image of the President. Where as the office of the Presidency was considered an honorable position, it has now been degraded and lowered to the level of celebrity.

It started with Bill Clinton’s appearance on Arcenio Hall and this need to demonstrate how “he’s just like us”. What garbage. ‘He is just like us’ should mean he has the same core set of principles and values that created and guided this country in its greatest times; not that he can play a saxaphone or has smoked weed.

But more importantly, what this lowering of the presidency has done has inserted politics into every aspect of life where previously one didn’t care what your political affliation was.

Now, the president is everywhere. Daytime tv, ESPN, cooking shows, and Radio shows with a host called “Pimp with a Limp”.

This is the legacy of Obama: changing the office of the presidency from a position of respect, admiration, and authority into one of shallowlessness and celebrity.

I shudder to think how much more he will debase himself and the office if he gets four more years.

  24. “I have never heard a person refer to themself as eye candy before.”

That’s why he said I’VE BEEN TOLD, simp.

If Michelle said this then of course all you’re doing is providing another example of your ODS.

    During the show…

There’s a willful stupidity and inadvertent dishonesty that oozes out of the guy, or, on other occasions, a willful dishonesty and inadvertent stupidity coming from him. I don’t know which is worse.

weeklystandard.com via drudgereport.com: President Obama made the case to the ladies of The View that we should “marginalize” the infamous anti-Islam video that supposedly sparked attacks on American embassies across the world by “ignoring it.”

“I don’t care how offensive this video was, and it was terribly offensive. And we should shun it. [T]he best way to marginalize that kind of speech is to ignore it.”

Today, however, the president did not ignore the video. Instead, President Obama suggested a link between the video and the violence. “[A] crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world. Now, I have made it clear that the United States government had nothing to do with this video, and I believe its message must be rejected by all who respect our common humanity,” said Obama.

“It is an insult not only to Muslims, but to America as well — for as the city outside these walls makes clear, we are a country that has welcomed people of every race and every faith…”

  48. P. Tillman,

How in good conscience can you sit there in your Aunt Martha’s basement pounding away on your keyboard, when you know in your heart that your time should be spent volunteering at a soup kitchen, or at a homeless shelter, or tutoring “disadvantaged” kids with their homework in the evenings ?

Hillary was right when she said it takes a village, and Obama is right when he says we’re all in this together.

You may think that voting for higher taxes and hence more government programs and subsidies will “solve” the problems for the underclasses, but those people can’t wait for the bureaucrats to come save them.
There are disadvantaged people suffering right now, and they’re crying out for your immediate help. Take your hands off the keyboard, and extend those hands to the disadvantaged people.

Stop being so greedy with your time and money. Be the hope ‘n change you demand of Romney supporters.

The real Pat Tillman didn’t sit around pounding on his keyboard demanding someone else to act—he gave up a lucrative career and went and took action, himself.
