Has There Ever Been A More Perfect Kinsleyan Statement?

Filed under: General — JD @ 1:49 pm

[guest post by JD]

“The government is the only thing we all belong to.”

Obama is not responsible for the content of his nominating convention.

Stadium? Couldn’t fill it. Moving it indoors because of the best weather of the week.

Yes, they were calling it “Panther Stadium” as the Carolina Panthers NFL team plays there, and they preferred not to bring attention to cooperating with a Bank.

Rush took a clue and called it “Black Panther Stadium”.

  15. There’s such a creepy, Orwellian undertone to the notion that “government is the only thing we all belong to.” I assume the Dems intend the phrase to be some warm and fuzzy contention that government is the societal glue that binds us all together, a wonderful unifying force, without which we’d all be savages at each other’s throats, but the phrase merely comes across as representing a myopic and excessively worshipful view of the virtues of government, which, I guess, does actually jibe with the modern liberal view that government is this unfailingly benevolent force for societal good, unworthy of any criticism and incapable of doing more harm than good.

Last nite, with Me-chelle Obama, take your pick from among magical, often-repeated words such as, “I,” “me,” “mom,” “struggle,” “understand,” et al.

With the Holy Obamessiah Himself (peace be upon him), we could each take a sip every time he utters, “I,” “me,” “middle class,” “inherited,” or even his tired catch phrases such as, “let me by clear,” “make no mistake,” “the policies that got us into this mess,” or “fair share.”

Dang, I’ll need a designated driver just to get me from my living room to my bedroom after all these predictable speeches.

  26. I think Americans, including Democrats, are smart about voting for what’s in their self-interest. Unfortunately for America and for Republicans, it’s in many Democrats’ interests to vote for government because they don’t have anyone to fall back on when tough times hit, or because it’s their best hope of advancement and status.

Too many Democrats are single or divorced mothers, or not employed, or in low-paying jobs with little hope of advancement. Many of them are right to view government as their best hope, but I fear it is a misplaced hope because government won’t be there for them when it runs out of money.

In addition, while elite and wealthy Democrats don’t need government to provide for them, they need it to give them hope for advancement and status. IMO that’s why they will be among the last to give up on the Democratic model. In fact, one could even say they will bitterly cling to it.

  29. I forget when and where and who, I think I saw it on PowerLine – but one of ya’ll might remember someone who wrote how the struggle between the L and R was actually quite fundamentally religious/faith related. People do trust in God (in the form of their fellow-man and providence linked with their own work as well as directly) or they don’t, in which a promised guarantee that “someone” will take care of them if they need it is some assurance. That “someone” doesn’t have to like me or be related to me or anything that might be “risky”, because it is their job. The loss of faith in much of Europe correlates with the rise of the socialist state. America remains much more a nation of people of faith and reliance on other then government.

Does one belong to God or belong to government?

Mayor and Chairman of the con Tony Villar says the vote is yes when it is clearly no, crowd boos.

Sheesh. Pathetic and contemptible—coming and going.

Very telling that Obama knew before hand about the changes in question that involved his party’s platform and only pushed to switch them back after controversy ensued. Sort of echoes of his originally close, extremist adviser Jeremiah Wright becoming non-close extremist adviser Jeremiah Wright.

What really is the ultimate sign of how ultra-liberal Democrats have become — certainly based on their convention — is that something as basic and simple as mentioning “God” apparently now rankles many of them—or certainly the party’s activist rank and file. I’m sure these are the same types who keep pushing for everyone to call “Christmas trees” “holiday trees,” and, even more ludicrously, to refrain from characterizing Islam as a religion founded by a bloodthirsty, pro-assassination warrior/fanatic.

Finally, liberals have become so flaky and corrupt, that even though a clearly large percentage of Democrat delegates opposed altering the party’s new platform, a person similar to them (in terms of his ideology), namely LA’s mayor, shrugged it off and forced the outcome to be the one he wanted. It was sort of a variation of ballot tampering or ballot stuffing on full display.

politico.com: Two platform planks sparked division at the Democratic National Convention here Wednesday. Things got so bad that President Barack Obama was forced to personally intervene, ordering language mentioning God and naming Jerusalem as the rightful capital of Israel be added.

Obama had seen the language prior to the convention, a campaign source said, but did not seek to change it until after Republicans jumped on the omissions of God and Jerusalem late Wednesday. And even then, it had to be forced through a convention hall full of delegates who nearly shouted down the change.

[LA mayor Antonio] Villaraigosa called for a voice vote on an amendment offered by former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, who chaired the platform drafting committee. Facing boos and “nay”s, he tried again, before announcing that in his judgment, a two-thirds majority had approved the measure. He was booed again as he walked off the stage.
