Did the Obama Campaign Know About Soptic?

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 8:39 pm

No! No, no, no, no, no, no . . .

. . . yes.

Frankly, I’m all for coordination. I think the First Amendment allows coordination.

But not lying about it.

Yes. It’s strange to be that freedom of association and freedom of political speech is curtailed.

I suspect in this case it’s not the law that is the real reason the President of the United States won’t publicly associate with his campaign’s actual behavior.

His personal disgrace is our national disgrace.

  6. Does this six minute video about GST at barackobama.com from January 2012 starring Joe Soptic mean anything? He’s wearing the same clothes as in the later Obama ad and the priorities USA ad. Does that mean they were all filmed at the same time or maybe Mr. Soptic does not have that many clothes due to the actions of evil Unindicted Murderer and Tax Felon Mitt Romney who’s Mormon Stare of Death causes cancer?

  7. Things were so much simpler prior to CREEP/Watergate.
Back then, whatever you saw or heard, you knew was a product of the campaign, and you judged the candidate accordingly.
Now, they try to have so many cut-outs to give plausable deniability, that they create a huge pool of cynicism within the electorate, and the entire process just sucks –
as does the quality of the candidates that survive.
It’s amazing that anyone with ethics or morals gets involved in politics at all.

  8. It’s amazing that anyone with ethics or morals gets involved in politics at all.

    True.

Who needs this? Who would want to put their family through it? If you want to reform government you have to withstand accusations of killing people with cancer? It actually gets worse than that.

Why isn’t the nation outraged? Obama should lose 25 points in the polls over this. If we as a people cared enough, we could get a government that had its act together.

  10. People like Cutter are shrewd enough to understand that they can lie repeatedly and face little consequence – let alone the president facing any hard consequences like losing polling points or perhaps even losing an election. Reality is malleable and “truth” becomes whatever the moment requires. But mostly what Dusting said, people just don’t care enough. The left are true believers, and the right is long past outrage and instead the reaction is a cynical acceptance of expectations having been met. Again.

  11. But, one day, they will go too far.

    As Winston Churchill once said:
Americans will always come up with a solution, after trying everything else.

And, when we have that solution and apply it, you don’t want to be downrange/in-the-headlights/etc.
There will be a reaction, and it will be intense.

  13. Why isn’t the nation outraged?

I think some of it may be information overload. Everything turns into a haze and it is hard to act in a haze.

Somehow with ObamaCare enough people caught the idea that Congress wanted to pass a 2,000+ page bill that nobody had read, and people got outraged at that. Of course, the MSM and National Black Caucus want to dismiss all of those outraged people as being racist.

  37. The Emperor, if you think that lying about Romney to the extent of claiming he is responsible for a woman’s death five years after a layoff is appropriate behavior for a president, you are as morally unfit as well.

But that you approve of such disgusting behavior surprise me not at all, you are matching slime.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  38. What this story does show is that while the Obama campaign has slandered Romney as a felon and a tax cheat, they were illegally coordinating attacks with SuperPAC’s.

This is all of a kind of the sort of illegal campaign conduct we have come to expect.
