Weiner Is (Thinking of Coming) Back! Here’s What I Plan to Ask Him If He Does . . .

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 6:22 pm

Talking about a run for office:

Anthony Weiner’s not shrinking from elected office.

The disgraced former congressman — who’s sitting on a $4.5 million campaign war chest — is mulling a bid for citywide office next year and “seriously considering” a mayoral run, multiple sources told The Post.

The cocky pol is also open to the post of public advocate as a backup plan, said sources, who described the Queens Democrat as “desperate” to get back into politics.

(See what they did there?)

And he’s getting back online on Facebook:

I know this page has been dry for a while . . .

Can Twitter be far behind?

If this gets serious, I have a few questions the press might want to ask Mr. Weiner. Starting with:

That’s for starters.

  1. There are a few more questions I’d have, actually.

  2. I wonder if Weiner is even aware of all the drama he created that didn’t involve pictures of his shortcomings in cotton.

  4. Really, truly, what does Weiner think, that no opponent will point to 1) the unfortunate tweet; 2) his mad spin; and 3) his pathetic confession, extracted because Andrew Breitbart spontaneously and with supreme aplomb hijacked his press conference and made him look about 3 inches small?

    You interest me strangely….

What a wonderful idea, and (since it’s a private company) probably just a sweet dream.

  6. The disgraced former congressman…

You can’t disgrace democratic pols. They’re immune to it.

They won’t just go away after exposing (literally in this guy’s case) their wierdness to the world.

They either run for office again or like Elliot Spitzer get their own show on CNN. As they strategize about how to run for office again.

I expected Weiner to actually take the latter course, perhaps even sharing a show with client number 9. Not to jump back into politics so soon as his package was forced onto the collective consciousness of America. But I think any pol who can give that fiasco of a press conference and not be shamed into moving to the middle of the Australian outback to hide isn’t beyond anything.

I still expect John Edwards to attempt his “comeback” as well. Especially after he recycled his “I’ve never told anyone about what I did the night my son died” speech to announce that he was going into some form of public service following his recent acquital.

These people aren’t normal. They arrogantly think they can control the narrative. Like Obama, who thinks his only problem is that he didn’t come up with a better story.

All these jokers think if their story is convincing enough they can win.

Obama thought his story was pretty good. Which means he’s not smart enough to get into clown college, so I won’t keep insulting clowns by comparing them to the likes of democratic pols.

His story destroyed brain cells of anyone who listened to it. The only thing worse then his story were his actual atrocities he committed against the nation while in office.

Kind of like Weiner himself. He, too, seemed pretty satisfied with his story until it blew up in his face. Or whatever.

    Steve57 (65d29f)

  7. …and made him look about 3 inches small?

As Weiner proved with his cell phone camera, he didn’t need Breitbart for that.

    Steve57 (65d29f)

  8. #7 – let’s not have that debate, ever!

    Dianna (f12db5)

  9. Won’t the exact same people from his own party who went to great lengths to out him, embarrass him, and remove him from politics last year come around for a second bite of the apple if he re-emerges as a politician? Has anything changed?

  10. Meanwhile, the Newspaper of Record that missed the Weiner story, the Edwards story, all the Holder stories and any number of other scandals involving Democrats, has this front-page item about George Zimmerman:

Woman Accuses Zimmerman of Groping Her

An Orlando woman says that George Zimmerman, who is charged in the death of Trayvon Martin, touched her inappropriately when they were growing up.

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  12. I don’t want to have that debate. Ever. Which is why I wish Weiner would just move to the outback and become a hermit so I don’t have to be reminded of what a creep the guy is.

I had just successfully repressed the memory of the images I was forced against my will and quite unintentionally to observe because of him. Then he starts contemplating a comeback and it all comes back.

Apparently Breitbart had other pictures that he didn’t release, for which I will forever remain in his debt.

He kept them under wraps. If only Weiner had done the same. Now that’s something he did need Breitbart’s help with.

    Steve57 (65d29f)

  13. Dems can come back from anything. Weiner probably will be President by the time I leave this vale of tears.

    Ag80 (b2c81f)

  14. You can’t disgrace democratic pols. They’re immune to it.

    This is a profound truth.

  16. “All the news that’s fit to print.”

If you’re a democrat and you want to hide secrets from the past from the press, put them in your autobiography. They’ll never find out.

If someone reveals the fact that Obama craftily hid the fact that he ate dog as a child by putting it into a book that the same fawning press decreed marked him as a literary genius and a “rara avis” while a candidate and then as President he had his state department buy in bulk for public distribution, they’ll point out you can’t hold him responsible for what he did when he was 12.

White hispanics don’t get the same consideration. Neither do Mormons. If Romney or Zimmerman threw a tantrum while playing in a sandbox and whacked some other kid with a plastic shovel during their “terrible twos” you can bet that would be front page news.

When you come right down to it, he’s really no more of a freak or creep than one of the leading stars and heroes of the Democrat Party, Bill Clinton.

So many liberals are so ridiculously tolerant of the shortcomings of a person as long as he or she also is of the left, that I bet Weiner and Bill Clinton could be caught on film having sex with each other in Central Park, and they’d still be feted among all the limousine liberals of Manhattan, Hollywood, Boston, San Francisco, etc.

  27. From what I’ve seen of politics Weiner should be gone in politics. His career ought to be over. Why isn’t it? Quite strange, IMO. I believe it would be over if he were a Republican. I’ve seen very good politicians go down the drain for far less than this.

But on the not-so-serious side, I’d like to add a question to your list:

Does Weiner plan to join Pinterest?

  28. Forget it, Patterico — it’s New York.

Actually, if Weiner were to run in San Francisco, his history would be an asset, not a liability.

  37. Ask Democrat candidates if they welcome Weiner back into electoral politics or if they think his return hurts Obama’s chances for reelection.

Some form of those questions would make for an interesting poll of likely voters.

    Good to get that name.

    First thing I found out:

    http://article.wn.com/view/2012/01/31/MSA_Security_Acquires_T_M_Protection_Resources_LLC_Explosive/

    Better: http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/msa-security-acquires-tm-protection-resources-llc-explosive-detection-canine-contracts-138347174.html

They were acquired, or some part of their business was acquired by MSA Security.

NEW YORK, Jan. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — MSA Security (MSA), the largest, private provider of single purpose, single handler explosive detection canine (EDC) services in the United States, entered into an agreement with T&M Protection Resources, LLC (T&M), a global security and investigations firm with headquarters in New York City, to acquire its EDC contracts.

MSA currently deploys over 200 EDC teams globally. The acquisition of T&M’s canine assets will not only expand MSA’s footprint in New York City, but add resources and capabilities that will complement MSA’s industry-best EDC services.

Going forward, MSA and T&M will explore further opportunities to strengthen and expand the security services they each provide around the world to the growing list of leading corporations, organizations and private clients they serve.

“MSA is excited about this acquisition, and will continue to provide world-class EDC services as a trusted security partner to both our existing and newly acquired clients,” said Michael O’Neil, MSA President. “T&M has an excellent reputation in the security field, and this arrangement will enable our companies to offer our respective clients a broader spectrum of high quality security services.”

“I have tremendous respect for MSA Security and look forward to providing our many clients with some of the capabilities that the company has perfected,” said Robert S. Tucker, Chairman and CEO of T&M.

“I’m fortunate to have seen this company grow into what it is today,” stated MSA Chief Executive Officer, George Harvey. “With this newest acquisition, we will continue to maintain our longstanding reputation as the leading EDC provider in the field” …

Another source says the headquarters of T&M Protection Resources, LLC is in Manhattan.

I don’t know if these are the same people he hired after the tweet. Does anybody?

    Sammy Finkelman (d22d64)

  42. More specifically: why did Friends of Weiner pay $29,832.00 to “T&M Protective Services” on September 1, 2011, and then pay an additional $13,290.00 to the very same firm on December 30, 2011?

Even after he resigned, Weiner still did not want to get hacked, so he continued to retain them. Or this could be money only billed later.

He also reported spending money ($136.09) for “shredding”

He has maintained his campaign headquartees at 420 Lexington Avenue. Most of the money he has spent from his campaign the last six months hasd been for rent.

    Comment by Milhouse

Prior to Weinergate, I thought Weiner was better than most democrats and a nice person. Even though he drifted leftward over the years, I thought he was willing to work with others and probably a decent representative of liberals.

Then there was this tsunami of bad faith and genuine insanity all mixed together in a convoluted mess, and the origin of it wasn’t Weiner’s tweet, but his lie that he had been hacked. That and the payments deserve further discussion. I would never support a Republican who lied like that, and I think democrats can do better as well.

    Dustin (73fead)

  45. Liu’s got scandals of his own, Quinn’s Mrs won’t be popular in some parts of the city, de Blasio is just boring, Thompson is old news, Kelly isn’t running, so who’s left? Weiner fits in well with that crew.

Chelsea and the Goon (actually, Maelgwynn Fuzzypants, a corgi) are pleased to (virtually) make his acquaintance. The cop that shot one of my darlings would probably wish he’d shot himself, instead. I’m just a little attached.

If this was a pop-culture reference and I’ve missed it, spare me the probably-deserved scorn, and just tell me.

    Dianna (f12db5)

  47. Anthony Weiner’s Twitter account is still active, unchanged, as the New York Post reported Sunday, but it hasn’t had any new tweets since June 1, 2011:

    https://twitter.com/RepWeiner

It has 478 tweets, follows 194 accounts (probably no change sine aJune 1, 2011, even if some of the accounts he followed ar defunct) and it still gaining followers, or maybe did since the New York Post story. The New York Post said he has 68,821 followers. When I checked the other day it was 68,907.

As of 11:02 am EDT Wednesday morning, July 18, 2012, it is now up to 68,921.

If he starts to get active in politics tweets might be deleted, or he would choose a different name. It can’t continue to be @repweiner.

His web site http://www.anthonyweiner.com is still up, but the last post on his blog, which is now the same as the main page, dated May 25, 2011, is still about how Clarence Thomas should recuse himself from the health care court case.

The last bit of news is:
