Patterico's Pontifications

So You Want to Go to Law School

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:31 pm

Easily the funniest XtraNormal video since that other one which was also pretty good:

I think it’s a lot funnier if you’re a lawyer, but also maybe pretty funny if you just hate them. Hopefully, between the two categories, that describes a lot of you!

  1. Do you plan to get married?

    Yes, of course.

Do you also plan to get divorced?

  2. “now you can’t think of anything else to do”

That doesn’t describe all law students, but I think there’s a ton of truth in that.

We have a ton of smart folks with a liberal arts degree of no practical application. They could have been great skilled workers in America 50 years ago, but today they got the High School Diploma 2.0 (a B.A.). The JD or MBA are like the B.A. 2.0.

  3. I couldn’t think of anything else to do. That perfectly describes me.

I considered music and journalism. But, meh.

  4. My wife said she thought I would be a good lawyer.

Nowadays, I think I should go back in time and slap her. 😉

Do you hum while you write blog posts?

The computer I’m using at the moment doesn’t read the file, will try with a more advanced machine, not this thing that works with XP (how ~2002ish).

  6. That was good for a laugh.
No offense to lawyers, but the clownery is real.
    Oh hell, take offense.

  7. “Do you also plan to get divorced?”

I’d like to introduce you to my future ex-husband (wife).

  8. I get that this was largely computer-generated from text, but am I the only one who heard she wanted to meet her soulMAT?

  9. Do you play any instruments Pat? I always like hearing about people’s past-times etc. Especially if they are musicians.

  11. The 3 years of law school had less than nothing to do with anything I ever did as a DA, as a defense attorney, as a real estate closer, as a union rep nor as a tax attorney. But for a great referral fee I would never have been able to buy a house nor get married. I learned more important career skills working the counter in a fast food joint and as a bank teller than I ever learned in those 3 years. Did learn that when I figured out I could finish in 2 and a half years by takinga few gut summer classes suddenly the dean of the law school was duly horrified enough-to demand I pay full tuition for the last semester I did not attend.

  12. I had to go back to college since the skills I learned in the Army would be illegal in civilian life. From what I hear, it is fortunate I avoided law school.

  13. Not a lawyer or even a lawyer hater and still thought it was hilarious. Kind of like talking with my 20’s daughter who thinks Obamacare is a good thing because she wants it to be. Don’t be swayed by reason or a sensible argument.
