Happy New Year

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 9:59 am

Concentrating on the positives, 2011 was a great year. There were challenges, many of which I have not (yet) discussed on the blog, but many friends helped with them, and the important things stayed constant.

How was your year? How do you expect 2012 to be?

  1. Focus on the positives, find joy in family and friends, follow God’s path, and don’t be preoccupied with things you can’t control. Do these things and you can’t go wrong.

  2. I can’t seem to control the fact that you are a fake Patterico and I am the REALLY REAL PATTERICO!

So, until I get a grasp on this, 2012 will still be a great year here at my site!

With the great sub-bloggers and awesome visitors and guests, we will have fun and make great history!

  4. Thanks for a great year on your blog, Patterico. You and your co-bloggers have given me a lot to think about.

There is one story I’d love to hear told…and I hope this is the year you can tell it.

Be well and prosperous all year.

  5. In most important respects, 2011 turned out to be a good year for me and mine — much better for us, I think, than for many of our countrymen.

The same was true in 1979 too, which is a superstitious reason why I’m hopeful that November 2012 will turn out to be as enormous and as positive a change for the country as November 1980 turned out to be.

  6. Which would be another reason to reject the “consensus” establishment choice as “Our Champion” in this joust.

  7. 2011 was a year of big changes for me, as I moved far away from my family and friends for a new opportunity.

2012 should be bright. I’ll get into the swing of things a my new job, and probably travel a bit because of it. I’ll see my daughter graduate in June and marry in July, so I’ll get a major increase in take-home pay when I stop supporting her 🙂

  8. This year was very special to me, for reasons that Patterico, Aaron, JD, Bradley Fikes, and Mike K. know. And I thank those five for their support, Patterico and Aaron in particular.

At last I get to concentrate things that are not “political” (in the workplace), and on the professional and the family (not in that order).

But it will be an unpleasant election year, I am certain. I hope that, next year at this time, a whole bunch of folks in the Oval Office are negotiating book contracts and speaking fees instead of trying to capsize the ship of state.

  9. Best New Year wishes, Patrick. May 2012 be a happy year for you and those close to you.

  10. 2011 was a terrible year for our little country. Just awful.

2012 will be awful too I think in that respect.

That’s just life in Barack Obama’s America. When he decides to brutally rape an economy he really doesn’t mess around.

  11. Focus on the positives, find joy in family and friends, follow God’s path, and don’t be preoccupied with things you can’t control.

Great advice. My resolution is to remember it every day.

  14. 2012 will suck, mostly because our national politics has become a theater of the absurd. The upcoming campaign for President, especially once the GOP nominee is named, will be the lowest, most vile, most disgusting, most grotesque, most dishonest campaign we have ever seen. I expect rampant voter fraud- outright cheating- on Election Night as The Left pulls out all the stops for their socialist messiah. The things we will hear during the campaign will make 2008’s ‘sarah palin is a c***’ t-shirts seem quaint by comparison. I weep for our Nation.

  15. It’s too soon to say whether 2011 was good or bad for me. It depends on how things play out.

Patrick, I have a request. I would like for you or one of your co-bloggers/sub-bloggers to please do a blog post addressing this question:

Did any of Romney’s official acts as Governor break any of his promises regarding choice/life/abortion?

In other words, we all know that his position flip-flopped on this issue, but changing one’s mind seems very different from officially breaking a commitment. Did he?

  22. Simon Jester @ #8,

I’m so glad you had the support and encouragement you needed from such a stellar group of people. I hope that this year finds you with more time to focus on your your little guys. It goes by awfully fast. And may work stay in its proper compartment.

  23. You know, Dana, I don’t think anyone—not even Steve Jobs—sits on his or her deathbed, sighing that they wish they had spent more time at the office.

Patterico, Aaron, JD, Bradley, and Mike K. were truly pillars of unreserved support—Patterico and Aaron in particular. And considering that I am pretty darn “squishy,” politically (by the standards of many people here), I was doubly impressed.

Thank you for your kind words, and in particular, your unfailing courtesy and civility. Best wishes for 2012!

  24. I think the comments here about keeping things in perspective are important, and I shall try to keep them in mind during 2012 and beyond. The economy should improve in 2012 because our free market system is very resilient, and as bad as this administration has been, it hasn’t destroyed the system resiliency (yet). With the Republican House, there shouldn’t be too much further damage, though the administration can do damage with regulations by agencies such as OSHA, EPA, etc. I’m not so confident about California as we seem to have an insane legislature and governor. California’s recovery is bound to be noticeably slower than elsewhere.

  25. Forgot to comment on my 2011. Pretty good: one daughter graduated college in Dec 2010, married in March 2011, and is expecting a baby in April 2011. My son graduated from college in Dec 2011, which ends my expenditures for college except for the modest loans I took out. It’s nice to see my son graduate with an EE degree and follow in the old man’s footsteps.

  26. 2011 has been a pretty bad year for me on the employment front. Does anyone have a need for a programmer, with tons of experience in C, SQL, Oracle, Data Warehousing, and related areas? Or a proofreader with an excellent command of both English and Legal English, and good spelling?
