Editor Shortage Showing at L.A. Times, Part 2

Filed under: Dog Trainer — Patterico @ 7:57 pm

The home page of the L.A. Times tells us there is video of violent behavior at Occupy Oakland. Look at the bottom right of this screenshot:

Well, I’m interested in that. So I click through and see this:

OK, they did promise video of flash mobs. So far so good.

Not exactly the video of violent behavior. But wait!

Huh? Let’s count the errors in that tiny passage:

1) “This video from KPIX-TV show some violent behavior” — subject/verb disagreement.

2) No video. Where is the video? This is what I was promised on the front page!

3) “So far, officials said [double space] no arrests have been made.” Two spaces in between “said” and “no.”

4) “The world is watching Oakland tonight. We need to make [double space] sure this remains a safe place for everyone.” Two spaces in between “make” and “sure.”

5) AGAIN, THE VIDEO PROMISED ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE WHOLE WEB SITE IS NOT THERE.

Granted, I’m double-counting here . . . but it’s really annoying.

Quick: anyone have a picture of Herman Cain wiping his forehead?

How about one of the editor of the L.A. Times wiping his forehead?

  5. Well, content-wise if there was violence and “the group blocked trucks from leaving the docks while four banks and some other businesses were damaged” how the heck can there have been no arrests? Maybe a reporter can ask about that?

  6. What’s worse, one can’t even use their website to train a dog or to line the parrot cage. It’s utterly useless!!

  7. The abject dishonesty of the media coverage of the OWS movement should be someone’s doctoral thesis on current journalism.

    As if that would happen.

  10. As if that would happen.

You would have a higher chance of Justin Bieber not sucking than that occuring.

  11. Not to veer too far off-topic, but I watched that video the showed the anarchists smashing up some bank windows. Very quickly the station cuts to some earnest and goofy college dweeb who assures us that this type of behavior is not sanctioned by the Occupy Oakland group. Question: If the group has no formal hierarchy and isn’t unifying around a common set of objectives, then who is he to say that it isn’t “sanctioned”? Does he mean that the proposal to smash bank windows came up at group confab that it didn’t get enough spirit fingers wiggling in support to be adopted by Occupy Oakland?

  12. What I love about Occupy Oakland is that the city government let all their workers and teachers off to join the rally. Not the police, however. How rude!

LA supported its Occupy rally by bringing potties and free food.

California is a very blue state.
