Al Gore Fakes a CO2 Demonstration
[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here. Or by Twitter @AaronWorthing.]
One of the key elements of a proper scientific experiment is that it can be replicated. So when the crazed sex poodle Al Gore put out a video claiming that global cooling global warming climate change could be proven by a simple high school experiment, Anthony Watts of “Watts Up With That?” decided to replicate Gore’s experiment and his results are interesting. Read/watch the whole thing. And if you don’t believe Mr. Watts, replicate it for yourself.
All of which raises the question: if it’s all good science, why do they have to fake it? Certainly it is hard to justify screwing up our economy for these idiots.

Science, and scientists, are easy to manipulate for political ends. Anyone familiar with Nazi Germany knows this.
Science is an anachronism in today’s post-modern world, useful only for the pursuit of power.

Al Gore’s efforts remain propaganda at the most charitable characterization and really just fraud.
Remember, this isn’t about illustrating something. The basic claim is that AGW skeptics are denying science, and that the science is so clear, so obvious, so basic that Al Gore can do it on TV for you.
Except that he can’t and has to fake it.
Further, the basic claim about AGW skeptics is a lie – skeptics don’t deny the basic greenhouse effect of CO2 gas. Many skeptics are not convinced that the effect acts in isolation on the earth’s climate and that other factors act in both positive and negative forcings. Indeed, in the past, even the loon James Hansen once published a paper where the error bars of his estimates of forcings by atmospheric aerosols included a range of results where the climate cooled.

newton.ditz (e7577d) — 10/20/2011 @ 6:31 amAn additional point is that, even if they didn’t fake the results of this particular demonstration, it would be ridiculous for anyone to extrapolate what happens when you heat a bottle to that of the entire atmosphere.
And yet they did, and no one in the so-called scientific community seemed to care…

Anthony Watts of “Watts Up With That?
I added the following message to his forum (BTW, take it from someone who hates hot weather — unlike those similar to AGW-sympathizing John McCain who reside in sweat-box areas like Arizona — I’ve long been aware of what causes heat on this planet):
Even beyond such an experiment, the promoters of the idea of AGW haven’t even indicated the way that greater amounts of CO2 affect air masses of high pressure — the “H” on a weather chart — which are THE climatic condition that causes higher (or very high) temperatures. So with a larger volume of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, high-pressure ridges are therefore becoming stronger and more commonplace? In turn, troughs of low pressure — the “L” on a weather chart — are becoming perhaps weaker or less influential or prominent? Or does one affect the other?
This doesn’t even address that unlike a greenhouse structure located on earth, and which truly does have a solid demarcation line above it (meaning a ceiling), the atmosphere from the ground level going up to thousands of miles into space is fully porous. Moreover, research has indicated that a greater amount of heat escapes from earth’s atmosphere into the great beyond than previously believed or assumed.

Simon Jester (c8876d) — 10/20/2011 @ 9:17 amLong, long ago, in Honors Physics for Engineers, 101 Lab, my lab team was told that our collected data did not seem to follow the results that were expected, and the TA asked “what do you do now?” The rest of the team wanted to fudge the data, I wanted to examine the expectations. We got a quick lesson in measurement error (and error propagation) and then a class lecture devoted to the woes of such manipulations — I was not the only one of those ~500 who objected, but we were a minority. People really want to “fit in” with the crowd, and a little data fudging was something they’d do to get the desired results.
The modern example, of course, is “put on your management hat!”

The Emperor (81198e) — 10/20/2011 @ 12:42 pmHonestly, I think this could be a serious comment if I didn’t know you were trying to be funny.
Gore is a hard lefty today, but he actually could have invented himself as an ultra mega war monger on 9/12. He is a disturbed guy.
If you think 9/11 was meant to destablize the Sauds who stand in the way of Al Qaida establishing a Caliphate, and that Gore could have responded with extreme force (much as Obama gets away with things Bush never could), the possibilities are wide open.
Bush took the harder path, with the slower results, and plodding democracy is the result. Obama has taken the easy path, with nice body count, but also failure to create democracy.
One is clearly better politics, and the other is clearly superior long term strategy.

It says a lot about Nye’s actual talent that Watts appears to have noted fairly quickly the flaw in the experiment, that he, the’science expert’ doing the voiceover, lending his reputation, as someone who understands at least basic science, to the results, did not.
Nye is a lot more of a voice actor than a science wizard.

That’s what I think is most significant element here. It means he KNOWS this is fraud.
And we could tell this also because he never responds to the arguments and I think you can say he never corrects anything. If this was a sincere belief,or even partially sincere, he’d be modifying and correcting his theories, and acknowledging some errors, like, say, Harold Camping.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Camping
But his only approach is to get people to do a sort of meta-analysis from outside in which people assume the evidence is so obvious and overwhelming – so many people in so many positions of authority say it – it has got to be right – it isn’t even worth thinking about, it is not something to doubt – not only his basic premise but his remedy, whatever it is.
