  2. He doesn’t take himself too seriously. He isn’t afraid to admit he’s really excited to get a major link.

    Not a poser.

But look at the bright side: Kman isn’t here if Aaron isn’t. Unfortunately, they are a set.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  3. Me too, though I did just post something on the competing debt plans.

    Karl (f07e38)

  4. I have good reason to know that Aaron is an honorable and good person. I look forward to his posts and comments, even if Kman (who I don’t think will be back, Dustin…he stepped on his own ego, it appears) is part of the dealio.

  5. My favorite line from Glenn Reynolds:

RECOVERY BUMMER (CONT’D): Orders for durable goods drop 2.1 percent in June with weakness led by fall in aircraft demand.

Hmm. A “fall in aircraft demand?” Whenever Obama opens his mouth, jobs die . . . .

Obama’s reverse Midas touch – the Job Killer.

  6. Friday’s GDP number should be, er, interesting.

    Karl (f07e38)

  7. SPQR, it really is crazy that Obama would pick on one of the remaining sources of American greatness in industry, our aviation industry, which is actually growing but-for Obama’s demonization.

Those are great jobs he’s attacking. Just because it’s a good talking point.

Whatever the GDP is, I know our debt is higher. We’ve crossed what I always considered the threshold point.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  8. Dustin, reelection is more important to Obama than the health of the American economy. That’s all there is to it.

You know, I never got that feeling with George W. Bush. Oh, obviously there were many things that he did that were political maneuvers and intended to get him reelected. But I never got the feeling that he’d do “anything” to get reelected. Which is an odd reaction to have to him, since he had a long career as his dad’s political hatchet guy.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  9. It’s interesting to compare Bush to Obama.

I’m not even sure why Obama ran for office. The loudest anti war candidate is bombing six countries. He claimed he was running to cut the deficit in half, and his actions as Senator and President increased the deficit by around tenfold.

He’s no libertarian… his government is more intrusive and less transparent than any in history. Whistleblowers are crucified.

He practices the worst cronyism, and his anti-lobbyist efforts are actually just an effort to eliminate transparency. The cry of ‘no registered lobbyists’ has simply pushed corruption beyond the voters’ notice.

In every aspect of what Obama appeared to be seeking power for, he has produced a twisted or completely reverse result.

Bush, on the other hand, governed as he said he would. A compassionate conservative with administrative skill who post-9/11 changed pace and focused on protecting the country. For all his flaws, and all his political skill, it’s clear he sought power because he wanted to accomplish certain things.

Am I being clear? Why go through the hell of getting significant power in our political system if you don’t believe in anything?

    Dustin (b7410e)

  10. Dustin, BHO is an empty suit filled with a hurricane of self entitlement and bumper sticker talking points. He only believes in himself. Government from the faculty lunchroom.

    Simon Jester (eb3dd0)

  11. Dustin, I don’t want to seem to be blindly praising Bush. Its not hard to find examples of Bush doing political things. I’m just saying that I had a sense that there was a boundary. I don’t get that feeling with Obama. I don’t get the sense that he has any boundaries.

Obama’s campaign is best explained I think by the idea that he did not actually think he was running to win – but rather he was running to set up a higher profile politically. And then a wave of anti-Hillary sentiment swept him to the nomination.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  12. Dustin, I don’t want to seem to be blindly praising Bush. Its not hard to find examples of Bush doing political things. I’m just saying that I had a sense that there was a boundary. I don’t get that feeling with Obama. I don’t get the sense that he has any boundaries.

I have many criticisms of Bush, and no doubt he was capable of playing hardball.

He played a contact sport for a higher purpose. It’s not necessarily a boundary issue as a means justify the ends. Bush was willing to spend political capital, make deals with democrats, etc, to achieve objectives he actually thought were important.

Obama isn’t like that. He isn’t really anti war. He isn’t really deficit cutting. He isn’t really transparent. Other than spending money itself, it’s hard to see anything he truly believes in.

Obama’s campaign is best explained I think by the idea that he did not actually think he was running to win – but rather he was running to set up a higher profile politically.

I think that’s exactly right. I think he was caught off guard by a political party that cared more about winning than in purpose. The democrat party has always been very good about seeking power in and of itself, moving from murdering abolitionists to cultivating urbanite dependency like a meta-ninja.

So his party didn’t care that Obama was totally unprepared for the job, and he was just trying to get his name out there so he would increase stature.

I guess that provides an explanation for why I don’t see Obama acting as though he has beliefs. Perhaps he really is trying, but overwhelmed? Or perhaps he’s left his administration on autopilot.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  13. Oh, I’ve been here. It’s just that my comments are being moderated by Aaron, which means they don’t appear. (And no, they don’t violate Patterico’s guidelines — Aaron just censors them).

    Dustin (b7410e)

  17. Au Contraire, Dustin, Obama believes deeply in the destruction of the American middle class. He’s out to reduce or eliminate it so that differences between the poor and the wealthy (read those on government handouts and those with jobs) can be seen in sharp contrast.

Government spending is a Community Organizer’s holy grail, it funds his destructive initiatives, firmly binds his slaves to his collectivist agenda, and it bleeds the resources of his intended victims.

  18. As far as Kman’s whining, AFAIK AW hasn’t been around much and all of Kman’s recent comments have been approved by someone anyway (not me until this last one) except some older ad hom comments. I just did a quick scan and don’t see any need to release any of his comments still in moderation, there’s certainly nothing recent that hasn’t been released.

If Kman had played by the rules in the first place, he wouldn’t be in moderation and it wouldn’t be an issue for him. I’m sure if he has anything important to say, his next comment will link to his blog where he is completely free from such oppressive censorship.

How ’bout it big man? Linky? 😉

    Comment by ropelight

There’s no doubt some of his administration believe that. There’s no good evidence to refute your claim Obama does as well. Just wishful thinking that he’s left the wheels to his radical staff and has no idea what’s going on.

I mean… I guess that’s better than a President trying to collapse the financial system. There is no doubt many democrats support the Cloward Piven strategy to do just such a thing.

Why isn’t the media talking about that every day the debt ceiling is a looming issue?

Anyway, he sure didn’t mean any of what he said about being anti war or transparent. And whether he’s a doofus or a mastermind, the domestic results suck the same.

AFAIK AW hasn’t been around much and all of Kman’s recent comments have been approved by someone anyway (not me until this last one) except some older ad hom comments.

Kman will tell a lie and hope it’s not corrected. He does it over and over again. He’s been doing it to Aaron for nine or ten years.

BTW, Kman, what’s your policy on shutting down dissenting comments on your blog? Lie and I will prove you are lying, btw.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  20. Hey. Didn’t Kman have a strange similarity to that other blogger with a similar name? Dustin, that is where you need to go to leave comments, I think.

    Simon Jester (c8876d)

  21. Dustin, that is where you need to go to leave comments, I think.

I wanted to, but the thread was closed because people were disagreeing with the blog host, who apparently hates dissenting opinions.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  22. Well, that couldn’t be Kman, of course. Probably just a coincidence.

But I do become exercised when he claims that Aaron is acting inappropriately. All I have seen is Kman being a jackass to Aaron (who has been a gentleman about not unmasking Kman).

You would think that Kman would, just, well…pipe down. But the stalkerboi can’t help it, I guess.

I mean, if you consider Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvanian swing states. The latter has been on the GOP wishlist for a long time.

Obama’s going to need a billion dollars to saturate former blue states with ads demonizing whoever he runs against.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  27. Dustin, are you suggesting, ever so cleverly, that our post-racial president might conveniently re-discover the political advantages of smearing his opponents with bogus accusations of racial animosity just to hang onto an office he’s demonstrably unfit to occupy?

Exactly. I comment, and some of them got approved (sometimes days after the fact) and many of them didn’t.

And even now, you “don’t see the need” to release older comments (well, I wouldn’t either).

But the fact remains, I’ve always been around, and commenting (mostly just to see if it gets published, which it usually didn’t, because Aaron can’t handle dissent).

  32. It’s so funny. Obama promised he could change the levels of the seas. he promised to create or save our jobs. He promised to cut the deficit.

But all I ever hear from timb and the like are how it’s just so unfair to blame Obama for anything that actually happened.

Obama promised he could accomplish something, but his fans claim he’s not responsible for a damn thing. Ever. He could sign a tax policy and it’s still Bush’s fault. He could sign a huge spending binge and its just mysterious who is to blame.

What’s Obama going to promise us in 2012?

Obama has presided over a failure of government the likes of which I have never seen, but you say it’s like blaming him for bad weather.

Timb once complained that economic downturns create demogogues who promise to fix everything, but also argue dishonestly. And I see he knew what he was talking about.

I doubt the blog’s reputation hinges on how well you believe you’re being treated, but if that floats your boat, anchors aweigh!

I can only say that when I looked today, the oldest comment you have in moderation is from well over a month ago. The comment you left yesterday had already been approved. Additionally, ALL your comments go into moderation until someone releases them. If AW isn’t around, you just have to wait until Patterico has time, which I believe is rare these days.

It was just happenstance that I was around as you made your comment today, but I can tell you that I’m not likely to bother releasing anything of yours in the future. I’m not a full-time moderator anymore and just help out when I can. Comments from over a month ago (that were snarky ad hom) are not a priority for me. You’re in moderation due to your behavior, own the consequences. AW isn’t even around right now (hence the title of this post) and you still whine that he oppresses and censors you. Give me a break.

Better yet, give me a link so I can observe how a real blog should be run. 😉

    Stashiu3 (44da70)

  40. I recall Kman long ago saying this blog was an echo chamber. I called him out for that, and he lied saying he would never say such a thing. I had to quote him.

The guy has no ability to have a debate on facts or even opinions. He has to assault the character of those he differs with.

Like Aaron’s pointing out Stengel’s many errors. Kman either lied about Aaron’s honor in that discussion, or he simply plagiarized someone else who did so.

There was no doubt Stengel was saying the constitution is merely principles and not a code of laws, for example, but Kman ignores facts and goes for character assassination. And he’s been doing that to Aaron for a decade.

I’m amazed that Aaron has tolerated it as well as he has.

  44. First McDonald’s: Now the World: Obama’s Plan to Fight Obesity

In her continuing struggle to fight obesity the First Lady’s victory over McDonald’s (The victory was getting McDonald’s to include apple slices in Happy Meal orders.) has emboldened her.
The federal government (read: Mrs. Obama) has realized that the government cannot force the children to actually eat these apples or to even eat sensibly. (Just look at her meals!)
ASIDE: She tried to establish the Federal Reallocation of caloric Intake Enforcement Authority (FRcIED) which would have assigned a Federal Food Agent (FFA) to every McDonald’s to make sure the apple slices were eaten (and what would you do about the drive thru?) was just too expensive and wasteful for even HER husband to propose. Besides, someone pointed out that there were other fast food places and restaurants that served improperly balanced meals (You know, like that place you, Mrs. Obama, ate at yesterday. Mrs. Obama informed them that she would be receiving a waiver from FRcIED once it was established. As would anyone who toed the party line.)

So, instead of a new department, a new federal program has been created with, of course, a Czar as overseer…er..I mean…leader…ah…spokesperson?

The new program:(A few tweaks are inevitable)

Everyone will receive a Caloric Count Card (C3) and a small chip inserted into their tongue (the Caloric Count Auto Scanner and Analyzer 3.2 or CCASAv3.2) that allows you X number of calories per day. The original number (X) will be adjusted per person, so as not to shock/starve the customer/peon/great unwashed masses.
Note: The X is automatically adjusted by satellite feed (pun intended) once a week.
You may eat whatever you like, but every item is automatically scanned by the C3 and that amount is deducted from your daily Caloric Intake Allotment (CIA). If you attempt to exceed your CIA the CCASAv3.2 will automatically report your transgression. Violators are subject immediate relocation to LT-BMRF (see below).

In addition the government will regulate/require that everyone in America must exercise for 30 minutes 3 times a week.

“Exercise Camps” (in government speak Body Mass Reallocation Facilities, BMRFs for short) will be set up across the US and people will be brought in with our nationwide high speed rail and mass transit systems.

    1. Current plans are to nationalize all Gyms, health clubs and workout centers.
    * Current owners will be compensated with a life-time membership to the BMRF and the knowledge that they are improving all our lives with their voluntary donation to the cause.

    2. You must lose 5% of excess body fat a week or you are relocated to a “Exercise Retreat” (Long Term Body Mass Reallocation Facilities, LT-BMRFs) until you reach your assigned goal.
Once the goal is achieved you are returned to your local BMRF.

You must continue your weekly exercise regime or back to the “Exercise Spa”. (Repeat offenders will be sent to a ….. trust me you don’t want to know!)

The alternative is Food Re-distribution. The rich of the food world should be required to spread the caloric count around and not hog it all (pun intended).
