Hitler Decries Carmageddon
Yes, they’re closing down the 405 freeway here in Los Angeles this weekend.
I have to pick up my mom at LAX tomorrow, so I’m with Hitler on this one.
A little too much cursing and it drags on too long, but the idea is good.
speaking of apocalypticness i saw an interesting map Mr. Patterico

happyfeet (3c92a1) — 7/15/2011 @ 7:52 amMan…I miss playing Carmageddon. It was a fun multiplayer PC game.

it won’t affect me though cause of my habitrail is not attached to the 405 anywheres

lovely otherwise
You can always take Hawthorne all the way up to Century, Patterico. It’s a great drive if you like a billion or more stop lights.
Chuck Bartowski (4c6c0c) — 7/15/2011 @ 8:04 amI know what those words mean on their own, but together they make no sense to me…
Scott Jacobs (d027b8) — 7/15/2011 @ 8:17 amTonight, have your wife drop you at a motel near the airport with car service to LAX. Meet your mom and join her on a Shuttle to somewhere conveniently accessible for pick-up.

happyfeet (3c92a1) — 7/15/2011 @ 9:01 amGood luck, Angelenos!
I have fond memories of the traffic during the 84 Games, so I hope this goes off as well as that.
Patricia (b22c5c) — 7/15/2011 @ 9:07 amOh, yuck.
The last time I was on the 405, it was like driving through glue. So was every other freeway. It’s going to be a nightmare.
All you Angelenos have my deepest sympathy. You will experience Bay Area levels of horrible traffic, and that’s a terrible thing to inflict on you.
Dianna (5bc608) — 7/15/2011 @ 10:10 amWho knew that Hitler lived in The Valley?
Probably somewhere around Canoga Park?
Patrick, take the 110 North to the 105-W, off at Sepulveda-N, take you right into the Airport Loop.
AD-RtR/OS! (7d3578) — 7/15/2011 @ 10:23 amYou know, it’s a little funny…
The last great controversy and congestion scandal on the 405 was during the last (previous) Brown Administration when the Giant-Turkey (Adrianna Gianturco-Dir CalTrans) changed a newly-constructed #1 lane (widened the freeway from 3-lanes to 4) that had just opened (for all users) to be a new Diamond-Lane for car-poolers only.
Traffic became a mess again, and Jerry had to go into full damage-control mode.
In DC, Obama is the second coming of Carter;
AD-RtR/OS! (7d3578) — 7/15/2011 @ 10:31 amin CA, Jerry is still Jerry.
Huh?
The 405 south of the airport should be practically empty.
jeff (31e059) — 7/15/2011 @ 10:39 amPersonally, I’m not stressing the 405 closure that much.
daleyrocks (bf33e9) — 7/15/2011 @ 2:05 pmit’s a very real deal apparently my friend P is on the phone – left his office at 2:30 on Wilshire and Bundy to come back to Studio City and he’s still in the car at 3:48 coming through the Cahuenga Pass
here’s the real-time traffic map
red is bad
happyfeet (a55ba0) — 7/15/2011 @ 3:53 pmGood luck to everyone suffering from 405 withdrawal.

DohBiden (15aa57) — 7/15/2011 @ 5:35 pmI’m in Northern Cali this week and laughed upon seeing the electronic freeway signs up here flashing on the 405 closure notice! I’m not sure why they’re doing this at the top of the state – perhaps they think the fallout of traffic nightmares will extend this far?
Dana (024860) — 7/15/2011 @ 10:12 pmthat’s really strange actually
happyfeet (3c92a1) — 7/15/2011 @ 10:29 pmI guess there must be a lot of people North of the Tehachapi’s that fly out of LAX.
Gene Eric (7d3578) — 7/15/2011 @ 10:40 pmThe 10 Freeway was shut down for quite awhile back in 1994 following the Northridge earthquake, and it seems people managed to somehow adjust to that situation. “Carmageddon” will be end up being a non-story.
BTW, the number of people moving to both the state of California and LA in the 2000s is the lowest it has been since the late 1880s—in over 100 years. Adjust for the significant portion of whatever population growth has occurred in America’s largest state due to the arrival of millions from dysfunctional countries like Mexico, and this once “promised land” now seems to be a fitting symbol to a nation that peaked during the later half of the 20th century. Speaking of which, a guy like Obama sitting in the Oval Office in 2011 is therefore no less fitting, no less appropriate during this era in the unfolding story of the USA.
Mark (411533) — 7/16/2011 @ 6:40 amI was listening to public radio the other day and they were promoting some study that claimed building new roads doesn’t decrease traffic congestion. It seems to me, by that logic, that closing down freeways would not increase congestion. The left is now at war with basic cause and effect.
j curtis (f93997) — 7/16/2011 @ 12:19 pmThe left are at war with everything except islam and their ultraleft pet causes.
