New Film Project: The Decline & Fall Of LGF

Filed under: General — Stranahan @ 8:45 pm

[Guest Post by Lee Stranahan]

My Weinergate film project didn’t get enough contributions to go forward – which means anyone who pledged money won’t be charged a cent. That’s the way Kickstarter.com works; the funding is all or nothing.

So of course, some on the left took this as a chance to gloat…like Chuckles from Little Green Footballs.

lgf-gimme

Which is fine. Some projects go, some don’t. It’s just a fact of life. But I also believe in the value of perseverance. If you almost drown, jump right back in the water.

So, what will my project on Kickstarter be? Anything inspiring me?

lgf-gullible

Oh, I know!

Please consider contributing to my new film project : The Decline & Fall of Little Green Footballs.

It already has reached the minimum funding goal – I set it to a very small $87 – but help us push it up so I can add more interviews and production value to the project!

  1. well, i am sure you know I and diary of daedelus (sp?) would be happy to provide material as needed.

only downside is that it might give him more attention.

he really was at one point one of the greats. the guys at powerline probably could talk alot about it.

  2. colonel pledge twenty
    bucks to document decline
    and fall of Johnson

  3. so first the Weiner is deflated…

    then the Johnson?

  4. Sorry to hear that your funding for Weinergate didn’t work out. I thought that would be a more worthy subject then LGF.

    DoD is a great resource.

Don’t forget to talk to the guys who founded Pajama’s Media. There was a nasty falling out that never got publicaly aired. For some reason Charles pursued a vendetta against them on the pretext of Stephan Green linking to something that RS McCain wrote. PJ Media never took up the blog war, but I bet there is a treasure trove of dirt there.

Another good interview subject would be Charles’ paranoid delinkages. Iowahawk is a good example. A few years ago LGF delinked Iowahawk apperently because Iowhawk delinked him, and then smeared Iowahawk as a hater blog.

I’d also reach out to Cox and Forkum and see why their logo is no longer being used at LGF.

I would top it all off by making an account at LGF, making some comments with your honest opinioins, and see how long it takes you to get banned. Make sure to screen shot all your posts. Charles has deleted and edited posts in the past.

  5. Lee,

Please don’t be surprised when you start to get smeared as a racist serbian genocide denier.

  6. Lee, in addition to the $20.00 donation I have a valid LGF account you’re quite welcome to.

  7. Powerline delinked him as well.

The only real question is the ethics of picking on people who are mentally ill.

  8. You are welcome to my long unused LGF account if it helps any. Where do I send the name and password? I used to respect the man some years ago; now he’s a total loser and poison in my opinion.

  9. Lee,
I watched and read back then in fascination — Dan Rather and his charges systematically taken apart, in real time with Charles Johnson & LGF leading the charge. Now, some years later, CJ is in the fever swamp.

    Charles Johnson: WTF, man?

Sure would like to find out what happened, so I gladly put up a producer pledge for your project. Go get the scoop!

  11. They have like 15 commenters who alternate between bowing and fighting like rats among themselves. CJ is King Rat. Stupid.

  12. Iowahawk is a good example.

I was a regular commenter at lgf at the same time Iowahawk was, circa 2003. There was quite a good, diverse community of people there at the time. It was important to me then because I had mostly ignored the internet until 9/11, after which it became a very important touchstone for me. I thought the blogs could forge a sort of multi-partisan consensus that would transcend petty politics.

I stopped commenting at lgf when it got so huge that it was impossible to follow discussions, but I still read it. It was still an education.

I don’t resent Charles for changing. It’s a free country, and people have a right to furnish their own head-space. But I do regret the manner in which this has happened, and I wonder why Charles can’t see that he is employing the same tactics that were once unfairly employed against him.

  16. “I don’t resent Charles for changing.”

I don’t resent his change in politics, just that’s he’s being such a raging douchebag. It was easy to ignore when he was on ‘our side’, but looking back, he still had the same personality and ethic’s issues.

  17. What a lovely excuse to re-post the farewell to Mad King Yertle that resulted in my 45,000+ LGF posts being erased—and just before I’d racked up enough “karma points” to win the Daisy BB gun, too!

    Your Last Posting
    (Los Angeles)

—apologies to Robert Browning and “My Last Duchess”

That’s your last posting ever on this blog,

And henceforth your account is blocked. You’ll dog

My site no further with your words; your nic

Is banished, and I gave your posts the stick.

You know I’ll call your banning here a “flounce”
Though I’ve been waiting for some time to pounce
On your account, and with prevarications
    Distort and demonize your observations.
The Toad Hall where you reveled, if you please’ll
Be given entire to the stoats and weasels,

My countenance beaming on each one that
Comes to me bearing tales of Mole or Rat,

Or Badger, or…sockpuppet. No, ‘t was not

This writing only, placed you on the spot

And caused me to invoke the ban: perhaps

You chanced to differ with my own claptrap
And stick to your position, or dispute
    Conventional wisdoms to which repute

I’ve lately granted. Don’t you dare to say

That I or my site might have lost their way
    Obsessing on my personal vendettas;

I am neither forgiving nor forgetter,

And will not brook a failure of obesiance

By anyone I feel owes me allegiance.
Yes, I took Rather down, on grounds that he
    Could not support what he claimed factually;
But now I set my sights at lower bar
(On personalities, not things that are)
While I squat ‘midst the wreckage I have made
Like mad Kurtz ruling from his bush stockade,
Ringed ’round with skulls. For I no longer deign
To weigh a fact itself; instead, maintain

That source determines truth, and to that end
The nature of veracity I bend,
Citing to midden-heaps of rankness such

That I would not long since have scorned to touch.

A turtle is a lizard in a shell,
And I, lord of my self-created hell

Remain King Yertle of the Turtle Stack

Exalted on my Posting Turtles’ backs—
Yet conscious, as I proclaim my renown

It’s just posting turtles, all the way down,

Which is why I respond with rage and fear

Should anyone mouth what I deem a sneer

Or contradiction. So I flip a switch,
And all posts stop together, with a bitch

Given reign of my elegant designs.

Yet, if I still retained but half a spine

I would despise appearing to be led

As I now seem to, by the lesser head.

Hark! Look you! See how Glenn Beck weeps!

Do you not loathe the company he keeps
Regardless of whatever he might say?
    Here is the global warming word today;

Do not dissent, the banning stick is toward
I care for no voice save that of accord!

  18. Lee,

I lurk here and almost never comment. It’s unfortunate that the demands of building or maintaining an audience on a political blog are often not compatible with conscientious departures from orthodoxy. You’re in an uncomfortable place where many old followers have cut you off and the new followers don’t consider you one of their own. The pressure must be to say and do what you think people will like.

I just wanted to encourage you to keep calling them like you see them. Don’t bother pandering. There will be a day when the right-o-sphere is going gaga over something too good to be true and this site calls it correctly because you’ve got the appropriate skepticism. Nobody gets love for questioning others’ orthodox assumptions, but you will get a silent respect for saying what you think precisely because your readers know you are not bound (by audience necessity or otherwise) to either side.

Big fan of the original poem. Bravo or brava, sir or ma’am. Genius. And LOL. And, Kyoto.

PS you should tack that on to the end of the “About to Go LGF” 1200+-comment thread going on now at Ace’s place. Heh.

  22. CJ recently used the term “back alley coat hanger abortions” in a post. I haven’t heard that old chestnut in about 35 years. He’s now just an unthinking message-boy for the calcified wing of the Democrat party. He’ll post anything they tell him, whether he believes it or not, like his ludicrous attack blaming Justice Thomas and his wife for the Weiner pile-on. Unanswered question: is he getting paid to post that junk?

    You amuse me, sir.

  24. he really was at one point one of the greats. the guys at powerline probably could talk alot about it

Back then he was the guy that took on Dan Rather and CBS news, and the site that would not let Americans ignore what was happening in the Middle East. I’m still reeling in shock at what happened to him. But I wasn’t around during his descent into madness.

that resulted in my 45,000+ LGF posts being erased

I went through a long period when i did not have the time to comment online, and so I missed the big eviction. You can imagine my shock the day I checked back with LGF, and could not find anyone that I knew still commenting. It was like a movie plot where all the people are gone and only their clothing remains. So, I tried to find out what happened by tracking down some LFG friends/commenters through checking old comment links. Now here is the weird part. I began to find hints of the building conflict. Within a short time, somehow Charles knew that I was searching for them, blocked my comments search and made a very threatening announcement about the activity. At that point I realized he was involved with their disappearance and was erasing their past records. As a result I did not have any desire to comment on his site again.

  26. I first ran into LGF when it was a cesspool of anti-muslim bigotry. I don’t know how that relates to the timeline of them being “darling of the conservative blogosphere.” I never followed them, so I didn’t catch when that went away or they picked a new persona to have, but nothing really convinced me that they left that paranoid style behind.

    Correct Hell,
Charles publicized Rathergate by having a bigger internet megaphone.
The actual study of the memo fonts was done by a guy that designed fonts– Johnson?
