I could not in good conscience cast a vote for this woman.

Okay, that is a horrible commercial. But suck it, McCain geingold was awesome. And, the Koch Brothers.

Liberals tried exactly that sort of “gang intervention” BS back in the 80′s, and all it did was subsidize gang activity. Don’t liberals ever learn? Or don’t they care?

Is this for TV or just a fun edgy internet ad for the consumption of political junkies?
Finally, and most importantly——Californians, I never again want to hear a word about Illinois gutter politics. K?

The stripper pole was a nice touch, I think.
Comment by daleyrocks (bf33e9) — 6/14/2011 @ 6:29 pm
So I guess the ad wouldn’t be offensive if we had a rainbow coalition of black, white, Asian, Indian, Latin and Eskimo gang members.
Comment by Brian (68dcfc) — 6/14/2011 @ 6:37 pm
If I weren’t in Cali, I’d be laughing. You can look right at Hahn, a clueless do-gooder, and see exactly why our state is in the economic mess it’s in.
The Tea Party is backing an R running against her for the House of Reps. Hopefully he’ll get some traction.
Comment by Dana (4eca6e) — 6/14/2011 @ 6:40 pm
Hey, I guess the general idea is for Dems to create a job however and wherever they can.

Luke Skyywalker called. He wants his schtick back.
Appalling covers it, I think.

Sadly, this is probably a damn effective ad. She’s effectively tarnished very badly.
It’s also crossing the line and unacceptable. Seriously. Coarsening our society like this is not OK, no matter the excuse.
I’m sick of people tearing down any semblance of decency. Sick. I wave my finger very slowly.
Comment by Dustin (c16eca) — 6/14/2011 @ 7:23 pm
Yeah, but “suck it McCain Feingold” is still high-larious.
Comment by carlitos (25ee92) — 6/14/2011 @ 7:32 pm
The whole ad is hilarious.
Comment by Dustin (c16eca) — 6/14/2011 @ 7:33 pm
That is so bad it is comical.

I find it borders on being misogynist.

I’m reminded of that Sean Connery impression in that SNL skit.

These guys are on to something. “Suck it McCain Feingold” should be in every ad.
(I thought demon sheep were ridiculous.)

They have a webpage.
There’s an embedded Fox 11 story on the gang intervention program.
It’s worse than stupid liberal spending. Giving perverts who say ‘kiss my ass’ to the cops a get out of jail free card and taxpayer money.
This is amazing.
And though I realize this was clear before, the tenor of this ad directly relates the absolutely awful nature of the people given money.
She calls the whole thing an achievement. I noticed one of the funerals was in Long Beach (Hahn speaks at his funeral), so I assume Patterico has a strong opinion about this program.
The sense I get is desperation to deal with gangs, and confusion running a stupid program with gangsters who take money happily and then are on camera waving pistols. Just free money.
I can sympathize with the effort to get attention by crossing the line. I think the ad is offensive. Would the kind of ad I’d make have a chance of getting any attention? If not, then ‘you get the government you deserve’ makes sense in this case.
Comment by Dustin (c16eca) — 6/14/2011 @ 8:42 pm
You mean it’s like deliberately letting Mexican drug cartels buy hundreds of guns and ship them over the border (and then defame the gun shops who tried to do the right thing, but obeyed your orders to sell them the guns).
Or it’s like the Israel supplying the PLO with weapons, and the USA providing their men with combat training, under the pretense that they’re now a “police force” and no longer interested in killing Jews.
The term is “criminal negligence”.

Fact is– The Filmmaker has a valid point that everyone should know about:
Liberals in LA government think giving cash to cons is a good idea.
It’s not– Here’s another example
http://www.laweekly.com/2006-12-14/news/broken-bridges/
If gang members claiming to be former gang members want to work for Homeboy Bakeries- a private organization– good for them, But not at my expense as a taxpayer, thank you very much,
Comment by Breitbartfan77 (bdb416) — 6/14/2011 @ 8:52 pm
Thankfully, not that bad.
Though it’s getting monsters out of jail, giving them $500 checks so long as they stay on the program, and having absolutely no way to determine if they are doing any good, and indeed, every indication I saw indicated they did no good.
It’s complete confusion, except for the thug who realizes he’s successfully conned Hahn out of taxpayer money. Hahn comes across as both an idiot and a politician more interested in putting her face on ‘I am doing something!’ than solving the problem.

If I weren’t in Cali, I’d be laughing.
I don’t think I’m being too cynical and pessimistic when I suspect growing cross sections of the “Golden State” in upcoming years will increasingly resemble societies south of the border. A combo of the entrenched leftist politics of places like Mexico, and the similarly entrenched liberal politics of urban America, topped off with a demographic where academic achievement remains bad, or grows worse, year after year, ad infinitum. Truly the worse of all worlds.
And all the limousine liberals (and one does not have to be wealthy to be guilty of that type of behavior) will pretend everything is wonderful and beautiful in the Golden State. That will be just before the tuition to their kids’ private school has become too much of a burden, or right before they build a higher wall around their dwelling in the hills, or right before they decide to pack up and move out. And then they’ll end up in another community where they’ll start the cycle of do-gooder slopfest all over again.

From the LAT,
Democratic leaders and others on Tuesday reacted angrily to what they characterized as an offensive and sexist YouTube video that tries to portray Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, a Democrat, as friendly to gang members.
And they called on businessman Craig Huey, Hahn’s Republican opponent in a July 12 special election for an open congressional seat, to condemn the video and demand that its makers, Turn Right America, take it down.
“The Internet video in question is inappropriate, highly offensive and has no connection whatsoever to the Craig Huey campaign,” his campaign said in a statement.
Friendly to gang members? Well, yeah.
Comment by Dana (4eca6e) — 6/14/2011 @ 9:21 pm
Yes, Dana. I guess it’s no surprise that the LAT wouldn’t point out that Hahn is quite friendly to some gang members.
The reason the ad is sexist and offensive is because the people Hahn is paying off are sexist and offensive and much worse.
Oh, and Patterico is on stage right in a few minutes. Click to listen.
Comment by Dustin (c16eca) — 6/14/2011 @ 9:25 pm
Oh, I’m an idiot. He has a post about the show.
Comment by Dustin (c16eca) — 6/14/2011 @ 9:26 pm
Does anybody know anything about this Turn Right America? The ad is appalling, so appalling in fact I wonder whether the Dems did it. They’ve already tied the GOP challenger to the group by demanding that he demand them to take it down which insinuates he has some sort of control over them.
Comment by scr_north (c4396e) — 6/14/2011 @ 10:54 pm
It’s that bad, SCR. I mean, black gang members humping a stripper / Hahn? It’s ridiculously offensive.
And yet it’s just too effective in its attacks. I get the feeling it’s sincerely trying to damage Hahn’s reputation, but also trying to get free exposure via the over the top offensiveness.
Comment by Dustin (c16eca) — 6/14/2011 @ 10:59 pm
This is another Ladd Ehlinger ad apparently.
Comment by daleyrocks (bf33e9) — 6/14/2011 @ 11:07 pm
“Wingnut video swings at Hahn and misses” is the headline at LAObserved. Which goes on to say, “The video maker has his rationale, but it’s so lame as not merit repeating here.”
How about the fact that Hahn paid gang members to work for her and when they were arrested they thought the police would let them go if they namedropped their boss, Janice Hahn. Does that merit repeating?
Comment by Arizona Bob (aa856e) — 6/14/2011 @ 11:13 pm
Yeah, Bib. That ‘Wingnut Video’ (which I will concede) swings at Hahn indeed, but its claims check out. She is paying and freeing gang members. It’s hyperbole to say she’s freed them to rape and shoot up the streets. But that’s predictable and what happened.
Anyway, let the MSM frown on it. I think it went too far. If we need that kind of tactic to win the public, that state is screwed. And frankly, it appears this issue already got sober coverage, so damn.
