Johnson on the Weiner: You Wingnuts Are Crazy For Not Believing… Wait, What is the Official Story Again?

Filed under: General — Aaron Worthing @ 9:19 am

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here.  Or by Twitter @AaronWorthing.]

You know, this doesn’t need a detailed fisking. Johnson has achieved such an absurd level in his lack self-awareness, very often he fisks itself.  A case in point is his reaction to the Weinergate scandal.  You don’t need to follow every detail, although I would recommend this post that gives a pretty good summary and of course co-guest-blogger Lee has been all over it this weekend. But you don’t have to have all that background, because as I said, the lameness of the post is obvious on its face:

If you haven’t heard about the latest Breitbart scam, here’s a pretty good summary (but they should check the spelling of their headline): Brietbart to use SEX SMEAR on Rep. Anthony Weiner.

In a nutshell, someone apparently hacked into Weiner’s Twitter and yfrog (a picture-hosting Twitter app) accounts, posted a lewd photo, then sent a screenshot of it to a student in Seattle. Wingnuts, of course, refuse to believe that Weiner didn’t post it himself.

And of course if you go to the link, you get…  wait for it…  a Dailykos post all about how supposedly the screenshots from Big Government et. al. were fakes.  Yes, really.

But as of now (and don’t bother to delete this Charles, because I have a screenshot) the very next line says:

(Update: there was no hacking involved. The photo was never posted to Weiner’s account. Someone may have photoshopped a screenshot of a yfrog page to make it look like it came from Weiner’s page.)

(Update 2: the story changes again – apparently Weiner’s yfrog account really was cracked, and the image was posted there.)

I mean what more needs to be said?  He criticizes everyone who doesn’t believe in the latest story as “wingnuts.”  You would think he would allow us to wait until they picked one story before expecting us to believe it blindly.  You know, because politicians never lie, particularly when it comes to sex.

The self-delusion continues in the next post where he pretty much defames Jim Hoft, a.k.a. the Gateway Pundit, writing:

And that nitwit is, of course, Jim “Dim” Hoft, who manages to misspell a two-syllable word in his headline: Gennette Was Not Alone… Weiner’s Twitter Friends Include Pages of Young Lucious [sic] Fans | The Gateway Pundit.

Hoft has posted eight photos of women he claims Rep. Weiner is following on Twitter, along with their names; he’s calling out the right wing attack dogs to harass them…

It’s an amazingly sleazy, creepy, and blatantly sexist post, even for the monumentally dense Jim Hoft.

Of course mere opinions can’t be defamatory, so calling him sleazy or creepy is not actionable, and of course his crack about his spelling is true (and irrelevant).  But he makes two other allegations: 1) that he is “calling out the right wing attack dogs to harass them, and 2) that it is a “blatantly sexist” post.  Except, well, click on the link.  His characterization is completely false.  There is no one single word in the post where he asks anyone to harass these women.  That might be the foreseeable result, but it is not his words.  And there is nothing at all sexist—let alone blatantly so.  It simply notes that there is a certain trend among the women Weiner has been following, in that there is a disproportionate number of young and attractive women.  Indeed, it’s worth noting that Weiner also followed a porn star and she claimed weeks ago to get a direct message* from him.  By the way, she got the direct messge on March 13, and what, pray tell, was she blogging about that day…?

As for what I think of the scandal…  On one hand, “I was hacked” is the desperate plea of every person caught doing something inappropriate with their computers.  But that doesn’t mean it is never true, and let’s face it, politicians are probably uniquely targeted by hackers, in part because someone might then use that hack to embarrass them.  On the other hand, politicians are not known for their marital fidelity, either. Still, there is one nagging problem I have with this story…

How the hell do you accidentally send a direct message to the world?  I don’t know what platforms Weiner was using, but every single platform I use makes it so it is positively impossible to confuse a direct message with general message broadcast to all of your followers.  I won’t say it is impossible to accidentally do that sort of thing on all platforms, just that it seems to be difficult to me.  Like if I was in my browser, it is impossible to convert a direct message to a broadcast by accident.  The same is true in my Blackberry.

Also I find it to be of little importance that the photo was apparently taken with a different camera than most of his tweeted photos if that is even the case (this is ultimately coming from DailyKos after all).  If you were going to send pornographic pics to women who were not your wife, do you think he would use the family camera and risk it being preserved in the camera even after you thought you deleted it?  I know enough about computers to know that items you think were deleted can often be retrieved.

Still the most damning thing about all of this, is this.  They have not called the police, but they have called a lawyer.  And there is this damning part from a Daily Caller article:

Several questions still remain unanswered, however. For instance, TheDC has asked [Weiner spokesman Dave] Arnold at least four times if the man in the photo was Weiner. Arnold has not answered.

Which leaves open the possibility for Clintonian evasion: something like, “I did not send that photo to that girl, but I did have that photograph on my computer.”

I won’t pretend to know of a fact whether Weiner sent it, but bluntly I am not going to believe his denials until backed up with a closed criminal investigation.  And why he doesn’t want one is beyond me.

—————————–

* For those who don’t know, a direct message is a special kind of tweet that is only between you and the recipient and not viewable by the world at large.  It’s like an email, only you still have to keep it to 140 characters.

  1. Chuckles Johnson eats his own boogerz. Chuckles and epwj must be related.

  2. So far have CJ and his LGF fallen “off my radar” in the last few years that I honestly did not know whom you meant by “Johnson” in the headline. I had to hover my mouse over the linked material before I had that “Oh. Right. THAT guy” moment.

  3. Sorry, that was me (perhaps only WISHING I were Bibi).

Has anyone ever seen Charles Johnson and EricPW in the same place at the same time?

  5. Nice posting, Aaron: I noted something interesting about the latest New York Times piece on this, i.e., Weiner takes pride of ownership in his Twitter personality. If it wasn’t hacked, it most likely was Weiner himself who posted the wiener: ‘For Anthony Weiner, Twitter Has Double Edge”.

    Donald Douglas (76750b)

  6. He’s a bitter jackass who is stubborn when the facts aren’t what he wants them to be. My first thought was ‘epwj!’, and I see I’m the third person to think that in the first six comments.

    Very funny.

Anyway, I didn’t know that it was difficult to accidentally send a private twitter message publically, specifically from a blackberry. That’s important information.

Twitter and Yfrog should be able to determine who uploaded that photo and sent it. The only reason Weiner hasn’t had that cleared up is because he doesn’t want us to know.

    Dustin (c16eca)

  7. That is very bad spelling indeed on Mr. Hoft’s part and he has unquestionably increased the number of incorrectly spelled words on the internet – any moment now – count on it – Mr. Hoft will say that someone hacked into his blog account and mispelled the word as a prank, but this will simply be a dishonest ploy to avoid taking responsibility for his actions.

    Sad.

  8. The new WeinerWay: if you get robbed, mugged, have your wallet stolen or your car broken into, don’t call the police, lawyer up.

Maybe Tony Weiner should call Sarah Palin and ask her how to fill out a police report since that is exactly what she did when her email was hacked into. But then, Weiner probably thinks that Palin should have just lawyered up because hacking into her email account was, after all, just a prank.

I doubt if the reason he does not want a criminal investigation is “beyond” you. On the contrary, I am sure it is totally obvious to everyone not blinded by partisan bias why he does not want one.

The search for the mystery hacker is eerily similar the the search for the “real” murderer in the OJ Simpson case.

No word yet whether knowledge of fisting and water sports will be a requirement of the successor, but early word is that Palin hating Prof. David Epstein of Columbia University may have the inside edge.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  16. I thought happyfeet was mocking how pathetic it is that LGF has fallen from major news to freaking out about spelling mistakes.

Jim Hoft is being bashed for daring to report that a congressman’s internet accounts were hacked, but LGF is reporting on his typos. It doesn’t get any more ankle bitey than that.

And the sad thing is that LGF is likely grateful the managed to get a bit of attention of any kind at this point.

Perhaps Weiner is like many politicians, and his sex scandals occur when he’s drunk or otherwise under the influence. Or perhaps there’s a software problem. Or even perhaps some superhacker is actually managing to hack these accounts at the same time, but uses these powers for silly pranks.

It shouldn’t be hard for twitter and yfrog to let us know which IP handled the photo and its sending.

I wonder: can they go ahead and investigate and report whether or not an unusual IP accessed the account? Is Weiner’s accusation enough to justify it, or do they need his permission?

  23. Charles Johnson is caught yet again in a lie; yesterday he said that re. a heat level analysis of an image “I hadn’t heard of this technique before” http://littlegreenfootballs.com/showc/37/9088355 . But here, he did an entire front page post mocking Pam Geller for….you guessed it using heat level analysis of an image: “I’ve been trying to finish this post for 20 minutes, but every time I look at her astounding heat map analysis that cracks the case wide open, I start snickering uncontrollably and lose my train of thought.” http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/37955_Pamela_Gellers_Astounding_Birth_Certificate_Heat_Map_Analysis_(or_Science!)

    Comment by daleyrocks —

Probably, but it is pretty damn funny that LGF is having a hissy fit about someone’s spelling. While mocking that person for talking about a much more interesting and serious issue, as though that’s what is trivial.

I’m not yet fluent in happyfeetese.

    Dustin (c16eca)

  25. He was confused, he was sending his photo to complete his IMF application

    EricPWJohnson (607b20)

  26. Aaron…

Open a text message window to your Twitter short code, or logging in to your application
Begin your message with a letter “d” and the username of the follower your wish to message, like this: d olivia

    or d @olivia

    so — you don’t type the d — that’s one easy way

    Lee Stranahan (708cc3)

  27. Lee, right, i had read something like that.

But myself i go over to the “messages” tab and make a direct message that way. why screw around with the other method, especially if you plan to send something dirty?

but that being said, right now only a criminal investigation would clear him in my mind.

    Aaron Worthing (73a7ea)

  28. Aaron, I’ve done it before. I see you just got the lowdown on the D method. That used to be the way I sent all my DMs.

    SarahW (af7312)

  29. Mr. daley what did Mr. Jennings do in his tenure at the Education Department what was so horrific? I think the rape of our treasury by one Mr. Barack Obama is far far more horrific than anything what we can lay at the feet of Mr. Jennings. I think tax cheat Timmy Geithner has done far far more damage. NRLB douchebag Lafe Solomon fisted America harder and with more enthusiasm than anyone at the Education Department has ever contemplated, and Elizabeth Warren at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has a visceral hatred for America what is unmatched I think.

    happyfeet (a55ba0)

  30. “Mr. daley what did Mr. Jennings do in his tenure at the Education Department what was so horrific?”

Mr Feets – As you are well aware, I have never claimed he did anything horrific in his current position. Are you going to start making EricPW style arguments now?

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  31. I keep trying to come up with (admittedly fanciful) theories explaining both him not intending to send the picture himself and his reactions.

Assuming that the pic is his own tumescence (he would not omit to say it was not himself if it were not) from someone else’s phone but uploaded to his yfrog account and tweeted – perhaps he was not alone? Playful/angry,mistress/hooker/pickup/wife?

She finds him flirtatiously DM’ing as he watches Tivo recorded pornography – snaps a shot over the shoulder and uploads it on his computer when he steps out of the room? Perhaps her phone has autosaved his passwords? Or some variation on that theme….

Of course I don’t think that. He took the pic, meant to send it, as he gets a thrill out of it, believing foolishly that his attractions must inspire a desired reaction.

    SarahW (af7312)

  32. oh. Ok well me I would like to take this moment to applaud not just Mr. Jennings but everyone what has not done anything particularly horrific in the course of their government service.

    We need more like them.

    happyfeet (a55ba0)

  33. You ask how it could be done accidentally, and actually it’s quite simple. Direct messages, especially longer ones, are often split by the cell phone provider… the first part of the message will go to the recipient as a direct message, the second part will be treated as an @recipient and posted to the general twitter feed.
Thus if the good representative had added a bit of copy to explain the photo.. like what a great deal he got at Target when he went shopping, and added the yfrog link at the end his provider could have split off the link and it would have continued on as a general post.

    Hunt (0eccb0)

  34. hunt, i like that theory better than him knowing the special Direct message command.

you wouldn’t have a link to support you, would you?

    Aaron Worthing (73a7ea)

  35. “You would think he would allow us to wait until they picked one story before expecting us to believe it blindly.”

Oddly enough, I recall similar criticism around the time of the Roman Catholic Ecumenical Councils. That is, so many millions waiting to be told, (1) what had been changed in what they were had always been told to blindly believe (faith), and (2) what they would be expected to blindly believe now.

    jim2 (6482d8)

  36. Hunt — that’s major. A link would be great…

    Lee Stranahan (708cc3)

  37. Key part quoted below:

    Tips & Warnings

    *

You can send direct messages only to your followers.
    *

Make sure your Internet or wireless signal is strong before sending a long direct message. If your message is sent in two parts and you lose your carrier signal during the transmission, Twitter may post the second half of your message directly to your public tweets.

    SarahW (af7312)

  38. What is the penalty for filing a false claim with the authorities?

…just asking, in the event an investigation revealed no “hacking” ocurred here

    Larry C. Sims (41786e)

  39. Sarah and Hunt are onto something. Doesn’t that split SMS seem like a great explanation?

I just think it’s interesting how much time Weiner spends on Twitter. Reading over it, he’s really good at it. He has all kinds of little cute hashtag insults for Palin and Gingrich. He’s like a junior high cheerleader in mentality and spare time to twitter.

I can just see this punk leaving a Top Secret briefing on Libya, or a hearing on Judicial nominations, and punching some twitter message about how Gingrich is the ‘tallest pigmy’.

My point? His fans can hardly complain that he’s being ridiculed over this kind of issue. Also, he would LEAP at the chance to use being hacked to his political advantage. If that really happened, he would not think it was a distraction. His entire life is spent finding little distractions or ways to highlight how his opponents are bad people.

It really is clear he’s lying, then, since if he were hacked he would let Twitter prove it.

    Dustin (c16eca)

  40. Another simple explanation: Weiner watches a hockey game for a couple of hours and drinks a few beers. Wife isn’t around … he gets a bit frisky, takes photo of his junk, decides to flirt with stacked college girl. Alas, beer leads to carelessness, and he has fat thumbs when he tweets on his Blackberry.

    No, it really doesn’t.
Website whose big scoops all turn out to be hoaxes has a new big scoop.
Single source for story about someone sending a cock pic to woman is her stalker.
She says it was him who sent it.

WTF with the 4 days of coverage like this is hard to figure out?

    backstop (b11060)

  45. backstop

    lol welcome to nonreality.

yes, those women at acorn didn’t set up home loans for the pimps. the cameras lied. they lied!

and there is no denying that someone sent it from weiner’s account. the only question is who did it.

but you are right. its not hard to figure out. weiner is more than likely just another adulterous politician. does that really surprise you?

    Aaron Worthing (e7d72e)

  46. Actually, let’s leave aside the part where we would expect people with braincells not to buy this as though Brietbart is a suspiciously-sourced hoax virgin.

How about the part where at some point everyone discovered the only person claiming this even involves Weiner is this woman’s stalker. That slowed down exactly zero people who had “unanswered questions” about this.

So that’s cool now? So basically, if you find out the only source for a claim is the least reliable source anyone could conceive, that isn’t a factor in credibility?

What date does Levi Johnson’s book come out again?

    backstop (b11060)

  47. back

    first, no personal insults.

    second:

    > How about the part where at some point everyone discovered the only person claiming this even involves Weiner is this woman’s stalker

the only person? on what planet is he the only person claiming this? Weiner admitted it came from his account. Thus he admitted that it involves him. now he says he was hacked. its possible, but wolf is far from the only person to think that weiner is full of it.

Seriously you are like 3 days behind the story.

    Aaron Worthing (e7d72e)

    “lol welcome to nonreality.
yes, those women at acorn didn’t set up home loans for the pimps. the cameras lied. they lied!”

Are you actually serious? It’s June 2011 pal, where have you been?
Everyone on camera has admitted that was faked and didn’t involve pimps or any reference to them. O’Keefe and his co-star admitted this. That is very, very old news.

And somehow you not only still believe this, you think it’s funny other people don’t? LMAO that’s hysterical. Maybe you shouldn’t jump into discussions involving gullibility.

“and there is no denying that someone sent it from weiner’s account. the only question is who did it.”

Why is there no denying this? The recipient refers to getting this pic from a different account, her stalker’s. Her stalker has produced a pic showing Weiner’s username above the pic but missing some other links a real pic would have, including the link which would match the pic url to the url in the feed.
That’s what I can’t deny is evidence Weiner’s account was absolutely involved?
So basically it can be my account involved as soon as I swap out his username for mine.

“but you are right. its not hard to figure out. weiner is more than likely just another adulterous politician. does that really surprise you?”

Well, yeah, in the sense that would require 2 women to want to have sex with him.

Well, assuming his wife does, that is one. and then there is the porn star ginger lee who has a major crush on him. As a straight guy, i don’t think i will understand it, but my impression from listening to women is he is a handsome man.

“you have a serious mental problem. I mean when you deny what weiner admits what else to call it?”

Well I don’t know what you think he’s admitted to, but there’s like 60 stories about this from all over and none running with that as their title. About 60,000 blogs on the basis that “he needs to come clean” etc. Someone has the wrong take or we’ve redefined burying the lede.

But I do know what you skipped over acknowledging there to state that denying what’s already been admitted shows someone has mental problems. Wow.

“everything you say is marked with that unreality and thus not worth talking about. no, the breitbart videos were not faked and no one admitted to them being faked.”

First of all – that’s an AWESOME followup to your first bit about people denying what’s been admitted have mental illnesses.

Secondly, here’s 3 links I found with Google via “admits acorn video hoax”, with peoples names in front of them.

And yes, weiner admitted it came from his account. seriously NO ONE IS DENYING THAT. if you are, you are mentally ill.

  61. You are completely delusional, “backstop”. Take your meds.

How about you admit that ACORN was perfectly happy, in multiple offices, to promise to assist with loans for two people who stated they were planning on setting up a business where underage, hispanic girls would be raped for their personal profit.

And further backstop, admit that ACORN became really enthusiastic about these plans when O’Keefe stated he would use the money he made to support Democrat politicians and the Democrat party.

    Have Blue (854a6e)

  65. Actually I think that it is kind of nice that backstop takes time off from perfecting his unified conspiracy theory (wherein an escaped alien from Roswell actually shot JFK from the grassy knoll forcing NASA to fake the moon landing in order to fulfill his pledge to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade)to enlighten us with his views on current events.

    Thresher (996c34)

  66. backstop, you parrot a lot of BS really nicely.

But ACORN was guilty, and the proof is on video. We’ve had the uncut audio for a long long time, and the claims it was edited out of context was always a complete lie.

Sherrod also was damn racist in treating white people much worse than she treated black people, and the NAACP audiences reaction to her tale shows they have no right to issue judgment on the racism of the Tea Party.

The more the left screams that it’s just proven that Breitbart and his associates are automatically lying, the more clear it is that they know that’s not true at all. You wouldn’t have to make stuff up if you had access to the evidence you ought to have before making the claims you make.

You guys want to just repeat thousands of times the same lies, knowing some morons will eventually believe that. This doesn’t affect Breitbart, because he can just rely on the evidence 100% of the time. None of his claims ever rely on a ‘trust me guys, I know everything’ argument. That’s how Charles Johnson argues. Breitbart relies on hard evidence, no pun intended in this case.

You just can’t beat him by taking times he was right in the past and asserting he was wrong. All you’re doing is keeping the ACORN crimes and NAACP racism stories alive.

  67. Was Weiner wearing a pimp outfit when he tweeted the dic pic?

    No? HOAX!!!!!!!!

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  68. Everyone on camera has admitted that was faked and didn’t involve pimps or any reference to them. O’Keefe and his co-star admitted this.

Lies, lies, and more lies. O’Keefe did pose as a pimp, and no sane person denies it. On the other hand he never ever claimed to have worn fancy dress on a serious investigation, and no sane person ever imagined he had.

  69. O’Keefe did pose as a pimp, and no sane person denies it.

Yep, and to say otherwise is disturbingly brazen in dishonesty.

Why is it these people are so sure Breitbart is always absolutely wrong, but they never seem to discuss him without obvious lies?

It’s just a smear campaign because Breitbart is extremely effective and actually quite reliable.

  70. Can backstop please post about Weiner’s weiner.

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  71. NBC’s LUKE RUSSERT: “That’s not a picture of you?”
REP. ANTHONY WEINER: “You know, I can’t say with certitude. My system was hacked. Pictures can be manipulated, pictures can be dropped in and inserted.”

So he can’t say with “certitude” that it is not his weiner. The follow up question should have been, “So, what you are saying is that there are pictures of your penis out there, just that you are not sure this is one of them?”

Since Weiner is admitting that it is possible that it is his, the question now for backstop is how did Breitbart get a picture of it?

    Thresher (996c34)

  72. By the way, when O’Keefe (or whichever of his colleagues it was) posed as an Islamist potential donor to NPR, he didn’t wear a bomb belt. And if he were ever to pose as a pirate, I doubt he would wear an eyepatch or dress up in 17th century garb or carry a parrot on his shoulder. Seriously posing as something does not mean dressing up like a music-hall parody of that kind of person.

“backstop – It has been “admitted” that O’Keefe did not wear an outragous “pimp” costume during his undercover videos.”

LOL not here it hasn’t champ. You’re the odd man out.
Well, you, the participants in the video and the guy that published it. These are the 4 conservatives now acknowledging this after a full year of it being admitted that this was edited in after the fact.

    I bet you’re lonely.

“backstop, i looked at the breitbart clip. if you think that it proves something you are mentally ill.”

Oh how brave of you Aaron. Didn’t push on to read the woman in the video admitting you’ve been buying a BS story for a year though. Who can blame you though, it was a whole 2nd URL one full line away you would have had to load, you poor, non-disingenuous thing. Here I saved you the trouble:

Quote: “We never claimed that he went in with a pimp costume,” said Giles. “That was b-roll. It was purely b-roll.”

Quote:”Although Mr. O’Keefe appeared in all videos dressed as a pimp, in fact, when he appeared at each and every office, he was dressed like a college student – in slacks
    and a button down shirt.”

    Awwwwwww shucks.

“And yes, weiner admitted it came from his account. seriously NO ONE IS DENYING THAT. if you are, you are mentally ill.”

I didn’t say it didn’t come from his account. I said someone else tweeted it. We now know I was correct and you weren’t, as per the photo which is formatted as a 3rd party upload and not formatted like a self-upload.

Let’s chalk that up as another inconvenient fact you’ll willingly ignore in order to preserve your little fantasy world.

How very sad you are. Declaring yourself absolutely devoid of credibility to preserve the illusion of a story involving Twitter. A term for which google’s #3 result is Justin Bieber. Something that crucial to all you hold dear.

    backstop (b11060)

  75. backstop – Aw shucks, you don’t have any idea what broll is do you.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  76. backstop – It was never a contention that O’Keefe wore a pimp costume during the sting videos. When leftie idiots like yourself fixated on that irrelevant point in a vain attempt to refute the allegations this site (which you claim ignored the issue) ran a post dedicated to that issue.

What the videos did prove was that ACORN officials, in multiple offices, were willing to provide assistance to two people who stated it was their intention to profit from the rape of underage, hispanic girls.

ACORN officials became even more eager to support them when O’Keefe stated he would spend some of those profits to run as a democrat in political races and provide other support to the democrat party. You of course support ACORN in these and its other efforts.
