Even SNL Thinks Obama is Taking a Victory Lap (Update: The Bounce is Gone!)

Filed under: General — Aaron Worthing @ 6:05 am

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here.  Or by Twitter @AaronWorthing.]

Update: I agree with just about everything Andrew Malcolm writes here, except my focus has always been the international, rather than national audience and their doubts. Otherwise, I could have just about written this piece.

Update (II): And Obama has already lost his “bounce.” But then the more significant long term effect is that this gives Obama limited immunity on national security. Anyone who accuses him of being weak on defense will be greeted with the retort of “I got bin Laden, didn’t I?”

Now let me start by saying, I don’t begrudge Obama a victory lap and no, he hasn’t done anything quite as crass as the skit imagines.  It’s obvious exaggeration for comedic purposes.  What annoys me, however, is that he is denying our request that he prove bin Laden is dead to the satisfaction of the world—I mean I thought liberals cared about world opinion to the point that they thought that before we could act in our national security interests, we had to pass a “global test” (quoting Sen. Kerry)—and as he denies this reasonable request scolds us like children for wanting to “spike the football.”

Anyway, so for once SNL pulls the knives out of Sarah Palin’s back and sets them on Obama and the result is something they don’t normally achieve these days… good satire:

Also, off topic, but the Ambiguously Gay Duo went live action:

Which is all kinds of wrong and NSFW, but pretty damn funny, too.

  1. Chicago Boyz had a good point that this admin was putting the SEALs at risk. They quoted Sec Gates saying there was an agreement to keep the operational details silent, but this agreement was broken in a single day.

They are now bragging about every little detail. Some aren’t even true, and it casts the SEALs in a terrible light (That they are an assassination detail).

Obama is spiking the football while preaching that he isn’t spiking the football. I guess that’s a well worn politician’s trick.

Nice mischaracterization of what Kerry said.

But putting that aside, “world opinion” understands that bin Laden is dead. Including every single country as well as al Qaeda.

Ankle biting fringe skeptics don’t count.

by which you mean i quoted his exact words.

    > “world opinion” understands that bin Laden is dead. Including every single country as well as al Qaeda.

Not 2/3 of pakistanis. and care to cite any evidence of the rest of the world.

    > Ankle biting fringe skeptics don’t count.

Even if they become the next generation of terrorists?

  9. Why does Mitch daniels and his judge want to penetrate our privacy?

    Comment by DohBiden —

I think it’s fair to criticize a governor for a nomination that wasn’t very good, but it’s not like he signed off on every ruling of his appointments.

The guy’s actual record is small government that is less intrusive and more business friendly.

Kman is wrong. Kerry’s global test is well applied here.

“Ankle biting fringe skeptics don’t count.

    Comment by Kman”

Why not? This is a psychological advantage in the war on terror, against primarily the kinds of people who say ‘don’t count’. That’s just idiotic.

i think he was riffing off the ambiguously gay duo bit.

    Aaron Worthing (e7d72e)

  11. Shorter Kman: Aaron is wrong no matter what he says. The War on Terror isn’t real.

Anyway, I think Kman missed the point.

Obama is spiking the football when it helps him, and scolding the concept of spiking the football when it helps America. We’re talking about a real difference in world opinion. Photos work wonders. It’s probably too late… the handling is just so crappy that there will always be a large element that denies this victory happened.

But if most of the Islamic world believed us when we said we caught Osama under these conditions, hiding with his porn, and he’s now dead, it is quite clear that would reduce the prestige of our enemy in this war. Obama refuses our of a dumb sense of respect for Osama, but he’s happy to spike the football at a rally full of democrats.

Kman’s ‘they don’t count’ argument really exposes a lack of concern for the war effort. We are in a very tough and drawn out war, and it matters that Obama screwed up his one victory. He’s just so indecisive and weak.

Oh. LOL. I have a hard time following dohbiden sometimes. I guess it’s me, though.

    Dustin (c16eca)

  13. Yeah kman is part of the ambigously gay duo along with Joe Biden.

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  14. Well Mitch Daniels should not have appointed that judge then.

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  15. Well Mitch Daniels should not have appointed that judge then.

    Comment by DohBiden

I agree, and I could point out similar complaints about Christie or Palin.

Being Governor is much harder than Senator or Representative because you don’t get to vote present on thousands of decisions, and sometimes they do not work out like you wanted them to. Anyway, judicial appointments are a huge issue for presidents, so it’s a legit thing to think about. Just don’t take it too far, such as claiming Mitch supports every single facet of every single ruling.

    Dustin (c16eca)

  16. Dustin

plainly you can’t predict what a judge does. i mean, do you think reagan was tickled (looking down from heaven, i believe) about kennedy and o’connor in Lawrence?

    Aaron Worthing (e7d72e)

  17. Well I guess no one is perfect.

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  18. One in five Americans aren’t perfect enough to know Osama Bin Laden is dead. These people pay taxes and are subject to the laws of the federal government, but their government considers them ankle biters who don’t matter. They don’t get to see the photos their elite leaders get to see, even though there is no state secret behind them (unless the government is lying).

Why can’t the American people get what they want from their government? Reminds me of Obamacare, where we were told we’d have to pass the bill before we’d realize it was a good idea.

    Dustin (c16eca)

  19. Anyways to get back in the feel of sexual puns the french IMF chief was fingered in an sexual assault case there might be another perpetrator……………hehehehehehehe

Anyways Owacky did a victory lap like expected and his minions can’t help but lick up the toxic waste that spewed as a result.

  20. It’s obvious exaggeration for comedic purposes.

Are we so beaten down by this president that we have to put in disclaimers when we make fun of him?

  21. Racists.

    JD (0d2ffc)

  22. It is prolly racist to note that President Obama is presiding over a failing economy. We can thank David Gregory for joining the Oliver Willis School of Impenetrable Ignorance.

    JD (822109)

  23. Are the people who planned this stupid?

    Sure. They are probably morons.

But is it worthwhile to deal as major a psychological blow as possible to them? Is it worthwhile to prove that we really absolutely did get their “lion”? Do they count, in our war?

Only a jackass would say no. We have proof that would convince many of them. If we had handled it correctly, we have prove that would convince most of them, and also torn Osama Bin Laden down to size as a porno loving coward who was no match for an American warrior.

That is one of these few things these morons would understand. We’re never going to stop. They are never going to win. They should find something else to do than strap bombs to 9 year old children.

    Dustin (c16eca)

  24. Are we so beaten down by this president that we have to put in disclaimers when we make fun of him?

The ambiguous gay bit it on Youtube.

The part making fun of O is an NBC exclusive (which I have yet to view despite the link being posted almost everywhere. Due to NBC’s funky setup, by design I’m thinking).

For all of the concerns that I’ve just been talking about. The uncertainty of the intelligence. The consequences of it going bad. The risk to the lives of the Americans involved. It was a very gutsy call”

  29. He should have flown a jet onto an Aircraft carrier with a “mission accomplished banner”

    Comment by time123

That was gaudy, I admit. But what was gaudier was the dishonesty in how the left described that event. Bush went to a carrier that accomplished it mission and gave a speech about the long hard road ahead, now that we had defeated Saddam’s military.

It’s OK for the President to congratulate a naval crew that just finished a challenging tour, you know. But I didn’t like the President in a military uniform flying aircraft, to be honest.

I also want to note that it is stupid to excuse Obama’s BS because of something some Republican did. That is the same tired excuse democrats give for everything. Is Obama a President or not? If he is, he shouldn’t be hiding behind Bush’s mistakes as his standard of conduct.

    Dustin (c16eca)

  30. Comment by Victory

He is in Obama’s administration, Victory. That’s like Donald Rumsfeld congratulating Bush.

It took Obama 16 hours to approve a mission to get Osama Bin Laden?

And Bush made similar calls several times?

    Dustin (c16eca)

  31. It wasn’t busy, Dustin. It was true. That carrier had successfully completed it’s mission, and was returning home.

    JD (318f81)

  32. Busy?! It was not gaudy.

    JD (318f81)

  33. SNL has actually been very tough on Obama at times. On at least one occasion the network took down Youtube clips of SNL skits because of how blistering they were, all with truth.

    MD in Philly (3d3f72)

  34. The U.N.’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights says that our commandos are guilty of murder unless they offered a meaningful chance for surrender. While the SEALs themselves are somewhat anonymous, many members of their chain of command are not anonymous at all. These people could be subject to the jurisdiction of an international court, if Hillary and Obama get their way.

The Obama administration’s kicking of the ball and then odd refusal to show evidence that would offend some Islamofascists shows Obama’s priority is not National Security or the welfare of our troops. It’s simply Obama’s needs that come first, every time.

    Dustin (c16eca)

  35. And please people how was Osama far-right when he was an eco-marxist?

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  36. Not only that He was no muslim leader because he slaughtered his own people……….Despite muslims slaughtering their own people if they are apostates.
