  1. Some said over at Hotair in the comments that it was too bad that the Bush administration didnt fight back against the media like this.

I think it was for several reasons

1st: arguing with the media isnt a wartime function – you can’t change their mind and it aides the enemy in recruitment

2nd: Additionally, they were extremely busy

  5. Beldar,

YMMV, but for my money, it’s worth putting up with ~4 minutes of Crazy Larry trying to play Liberal Jeopardy! (putting answers in the form of questions), to hear ~8 minutes of Condoleeza schooling him like he was in short pants.

Seriously, it’s hard to edit his brand of crazy — if he had his way the interview subject’d get exactly one word out before the next harangue. Rice’s success at preventing that and making her points well anyway is what’s so great about the clip.

It is long but her repeated smiling but no-nonsense smackdowns are worth it. Esp her pitiless pursuit and evisceration of him when he tries to get away with a lie. lol

The funniest part is, I think he thought he won.

  7. Beldar – If there was any doubt Crazy Larry had any balls when the interview starts, there isn’t when the interview is over. Dr. Rice cut them off. Watch the clip.

  19. Either the Bush administration was entirely inept at reading the intelligence, or they outright lied about what was circumstantial evidence. Dr. Rice may have “owned” Larry, when he pushed her for answers, but she also used her intransigence to avoid answering the cricitisms of the entire Bush approach to 9/11 and Iraq. More obfuscation by a member of the Bush team. Too bad, because I actually like Dr. Rice and think that she’s another intelligent individual that’s been poisoned by the Bush well, just like Colin Powell.

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  22. Beldar, you can start around the 8 minute mark to watch Ms. Rice start her slapdown. Crazy Larry regurgitated all the liberal talking points we heard for 7 years only to be schooled by one of the smartest women in America.

You see, Crazy Larry, like the rest of the Lame Stream media, really thought that since it was their talking points, since they tried to create their own facts, not actually look at the truth, he could simply repeat them and Ms. Rice would wither in fear of his awesome ability to put her in her place. Didn’t happen.

Do any of you remember when our troops took over one of Saddam’s palaces and they found millions of American dollars and an absolute treasure trove of Iraqi government documents? If not, I’m not surprised. Very few reported on it and it never became a huge story. But it was a huge story. It was thousands of Iraqi docs that were later transcribed by both our government, and on line by a person who was an Iraqi living in the U.S. who wanted to keep his identity unknown. He went by the moniker jveritas.

Jveritas translated those documents exactly as our government did and what they revealed was that Saddam was actively trying to obtain a “chemical for special use”, which anyone with two grey cells bumping together knew was yellow cake. One of the documents also talked of how a high ranking Iraqi official had notified Saddam that he had a “friend” in Syria, a former Ambassador, who would help move “sensitive materials” into Syria. Another very important document discussed how a emmisary of Saddam met with Osama bin Laden. Ignored by the U.S. liberal media.

Now, these documents were serious business. They gave us an insight into the plans of Saddam. But the press ignored them. The documents became an 800 lb. gorilla that belied all the crap being put out by the “hate George Bush” liberal media.

The truth of the matter is that the big stories that the press should have been covering, like the Food For Oil scandal, was short shifted by the U.S. media because it made Bush look good.

Some say the media died in 2008 when they failed to report on a very junior senator from Illinois and his shady connections/friends. That’s not true. The media died between shortly after we invaded Iraq, when it refused to report the truth about what we were learning about Saddam. The fourth branch of our government, the press, has been lying to the American people by ommission for a long, long time.

I think it is rather funny that those same people, who had to work so hard to ignore the machinations of Saddam, via the documents, now are singing the praises of the assassination of ObL. Had it been GWB that ordered ObL’s assassination, they would be screaming that Bush was a criminal and should be prosecuted in the Hague. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m glad ObL is dead. I would have wrapped him in bacon and removed his head to put it on a stake in the middle of Ground Zero. I am only making a point of the bias of the media/press that finds all things Bush bad and all things Obama good. No matter what it is.

Saddam was a threat. End of story. And only fools, and political hacks, will deny that.

  26. O’Donnell calls himself a “practical European socialist” in a Newsmaker Interview dated November 11, 2005.[22] On November 6, 2010, O’Donnell re-declared himself a socialist on the “Morning Joe” show. The MSNBC host stated, “[U]nlike you, I am not a progressive. I am not a liberal who is so afraid of the word that I had to change my name to progressive. Liberals amuse me. I am a socialist. I live to the extreme left, the extreme left of you mere liberals …” [23]
o’donnell in brief. Didn’t capitalize his name,’cause he doesn’t deserve modicum of respect. He hasn’t even a modicum of common sense.

  28. O’Donnell was very unprofessional and disrespectful during this interview. His cheap “do you still beat your wife?” questions is a statement to his lack of seriousness.

  29. While I don’t fault Ms. Rice for not mentioning it, I do wonder at what point somebody will make the following point;

Regardless any other facts, if we wanted to be taken seriously in the Middle East, we had to take out Saddam. He was unfinished business. Until we removed him, leaders in the Middle East could point at a long chain of Rat Bastards we had threatened, but not removed.

Von Clausewitz said (in much more elegant language) that diplomacy is credit, and military force is cash. If we couldn’t get the Middle East to take us seriously, we were – so to speak – going to have to pay cash for everything. Not a good idea.

I think his self-assumed premise in life is: I’ve won. Always. He never doubts it, never believes it could be otherwise, facts be damned – he is, after all, Lawrence O’Donnell. This man owns smugness.

    Dana (4eca6e)

  34. I guess that the Condoleezza Rices of the world sort of have to go on Crazy Larry’s show, if only to provide an opposing viewpoint to Larry’s lunatic rantings. I’m not sure though that it is possible to dignify oneself in that arena, despite the fact that Sec. Rice certainly acquitted herself quite well.

Susan D. Harms’s comment above with regards to the folly of wrestling in the mud with a pig is absolutely correct.

    JVW (fb14f8)

  35. Retire05 are you talking about the Harmony data base? I remember reading those papers and saw several instances of collusion between Sadam and AlQueda and couldn’t figure out why the MSM ignored it. But then I was a lefty back then and thought they might know best and that I was “missing” something. Well I found our I was missing something, the ability to think on my own and that the MSM was clearly into the “hate Bush at any cost” meme and it began part of my long journey to sanity and against the far left.

  36. Ms Rice spoke here in SB a couple months ago and I got to see her do a Q&A.
    Very bright woman.

I’d like to see John Yoo go on the show and kick what is left of his butt

    SteveG (cc5dc9)

  37. The most spectacular part of the entire video is that it’s an MSNBC edit. They, both Larry of the Crazy and the network, think this puts them in a good light.

And as to winning and losing, MSNBC’s own edit shows CL having no defense to Rice’s exposure of a CL lie. If he had something wouldn’t they have included it? Once you’re able to shrug and say ‘so we got caught lying, who cares’ you’ve quit journalism.

I respectfully disagree. While there were wild “discrepancies” centuries ago, and even more in the turn-of-the-century “yellow” press, that occurred when there were more than one source of news – and it generally was a fight as to who loved America the best. The MSM started its anti-American slant long ago with Walter Duranty, continued with Walter Cronkite, and came into full bloom immediately after Watergate. That was when journalism students began having no desire in reporting the news, but instead, wanted to “change the world.” Ends/means=today’s press.

  44. Good stuff.. an excellent 11 minutes right there. If you waited all through W for someone to actually speak up and put Iraq in proper historical context, this is the clip. The defiance of UN sanctions, the world after 9 11, Saddams wmd’s & obliterating 400,000 of his own people, the food for oil scam. Wish Condi Rice could coach the GOP ticket next year on how to handle dirtbags. Just smooth as silk while repeatedly knocking him down.

  47. I recall the docdump from SH’s archives. Lots of stuff coming out almost random. “Achmed wants a day off to see his sick mother.” “The potholes were fixed on Eighth Street” “Here is the diagram for a nuke trigger”
The MSM was giving Bush a hard time about no WMD, then about releasing nuclear hints. Bush admin couldn’t do anything.

    Richard Aubrey (cc7e37)

  48. Impressive background, she would add much to the evolving names. Condi’s support of new START was surprising. I’ll have to go back and read why. Generally I’m not enthusiastic about any Bush runners next year because his domestic work hurt the country badly. Obviously their success on terror was evident last weekend (and we’re lucky, especially since Obama is against everything that made it possible).

    Vermont Neighbor (ac417f)

  49. “One wonders: if killing bin Laden was a courageous, gutsy decision by Barack Obama, where were the liberals when President Bush approved the killing of Zarqawi? Do you remember any of them praising that decision as courageous and “game changing?” No, neither do I. Or how about the apprehension of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed? How many congratulations did that skillfully-executed operation draw from the Left? And how about Bush’s decision to topple, and then capture, Saddam Hussein, one of America’s bitterest enemies, whose forces tried to shoot down American airplanes and who attempted to assassinate a former American President? Was that a courageous and gutsy decision? We all know the answer to that question.

What we are currently witnessing is the strange spectacle of liberals trying to grab, for their guy, a mantle neither he nor they ever sought: cold-blooded assassin of anti-American terrorists. This has nothing to do with their true values and priorities, and everything to do with the fact that Obama’s economic policies have put him in a deep hole as he seeks re-election next year.”

Oh, it goes a long way further back than that. At least as far back as Vietnam, when the USA news media single-handedly and treasonously turned our victory against the enemy’s Tet offensive into a defeat.

  61. What I have always found fascinating about the left is their seeming inability to understand that the best time to stop a threat is NOT when it has become eminent, but when it is still in the planning stages. Bush laid that out, we simply cannot wait until the threat is eminent, not in the age of Nuclear/Biological/Chemical. Somehow in the Liberal mind that has been translated into we MUST wait until the threat is eminent. That is simply insane. As is the MSM meme that the Iraq war was all about WMD. The AUMF is online for anybody to read, are they so stupid as to not understand that? Why does their operating assumption seem to be that we are still in the last century? Are they a bunch of Pauline Keals, assuming that anything they don’t hear about in their inner circle doesn’t exist?
