Obama: I Am Not a Golfing Fanatic

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 5:49 pm

It’s just that he has it so tough.

It’s enough to break your heart, it is:

President Barack Obama wants you to know that he is not a golf addict.

He spends so much time unwinding on the links because security restrictions mean he can’t go out for long walks or go to the carwash or the grocery store.

. . . .

“I just miss – I miss being anonymous,” he said at the meeting in the White House. “I miss Saturday morning, rolling out of bed, not shaving, getting into my car with my girls, driving to the supermarket, squeezing the fruit, getting my car washed, taking walks. I can’t take a walk.”

Mr. President, I think I have a solution.

Thanks to Ace, who has an amusing take on this.

  1. Gee, it’s too bad that, in playing a round of golf, one doesn’t have the opportunity to walk for 7,000 yards or so . . .

  2. What a poofter. That clown gives actual golfers a bad name.

  3. It’s once again absolutely stunning at this man’s lack of self-awareness, as well as being so utterly tone deaf.

He made those comments yesterday at 9:30 a.m. as he simultaneously leveraged our military men and women in budget negotiations even as many risked life and limb to keep him safe.

I’m fairly confident all of whom would wistfully agree about their own Saturday mornings, I miss rolling out of bed, not shaving, getting into my car with my children, driving to the supermarket, squeezing the fruit, getting my car washed, taking walks. I can’t take a walk.”

    Disgraceful.

  4. In between stopping the oceans from rising, bringing peace to the Mideast, closing Gitmo, preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons, negotiating comprehensive immigration reform, reducing the nation’s health care expenditures, isn’t a man entitled to some relaxation.

Hey, if a man had actually done any of the above, the answer might be sure.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  5. Yet more evidence the man had no idea what he was getting into when he ran for President.

  6. Well, in a little under two years, we can make his dream come true…

  7. Hey, chill people. Being prezzident is haa-rd.

  8. He sure is a whiny little turd.

  9. Well let’s hope he can spend the rest of his life squeezin’ the Charmin and the fruit–starting in January, 2013. Our lives would be better–and so would his. Yes he is a whiny little varmint.

    Mike Myers (0e06a9)

  10. Bill Clinton-I’am not a Monica fanatic.

    DohBiden (984d23)

  11. I’m positive he had long, analytical discussions with himself over the competing demands of his treasured anonymity, and the compulsive demand that he thrust himself onto the political stage and into our lives….
    NOT!

Lipstick on a pig is looking better and better than this over-polished turd.

  12. He’s playing gold on your behalf. I think you’re supposed to be grateful i.e. he didn’t really want to be President but those oceans were rising and all so SOMEBODY had to put a stop to it.

It’s also little known that despite the thousands of pairs of shoes she owned, Imelda Marcos mourned for years over a cute little pair of pumps she saw in the window of a Milan boutique shop when there was no time to stop. Life can be cruel and horribly unfair sometimes!

  13. Shoot – “playing golf” of course

    East Bay Jay (19f566)

  14. I am sure he misses the Sunday morning sermons at Rev. Wright’s Church as well.

    BT (74cbec)

  15. Bill Clinton had a little bit of Monica in his life.

Barack Obama has a little bit of golfing in his life.

    DohBiden (984d23)

  16. I actually am sympathetic – I’d feel the same way if Bush made the same statement. It’s weird job. Shouldn’t be that strange, maybe. Too much power?

    Stranahan (708cc3)

  17. If bush made that same statement he would be impeached.

    DohBiden (984d23)

  18. He can get Beyonce to come over and sing for him after a celebrity chef gets done with dinner…

I think Obama is overwhelmed by the job.
He is a great speaker, but Obama is NOT a leader. He is constantly withdrawing when things get tough.
He has the speech reading down, but not the “leadership is at the front” thing.
    Obama acts like a figurehead.

    SteveG (cc5dc9)

  19. Isn’t this exactly what Camp David was created for? A closed, secure, natural space for a president to get away to and enjoy a modicum of freedom and normalcy–a place for him and his family to relax in, with places to walk and ride, etc? To me, Obama’s golf quote has that same tone of “Can’t I just eat my waffle?” pity party whinging which is very unbecoming.

    elissa (93f15e)

  20. “I can’t take a walk.”

Yeah, it’s right there in Article II of the Constitution:

Presidents shall golf, but they shall not take walks.

    Dave Surls (103c34)

  21. Obama is too sexy for the presidency so sexy it hurts.

    DohBiden (984d23)

  22. Obama was promised by Axlerod and Ploffe when he ran for president that he wouldn’t have to deal with any tough situations, because Congress in the form of Harry and Nancy would do all the work, and Chicago-style intimidation tactics combined with liberal doses of the race card would take care of all the conservative dissenters.

Obama was just support to lend his historic place in American history to the job, team with TOTUS to give some eloquent speeches, and then take credit for all the wonderful things this plan produced. The fact that this all turned into a crap sandwhich and Obama actually is going to have to work way harder than he was promised to make the left’s dreams a reality is why he’s out on the golf course so much; it’s an 18-hole expression of voting “present” and leaving the other Democrats and the media to fix up the mess Obama thinks they and the Republicans created.

  23. Well, let’s see, President Clinton went jogging off of the White House grounds many times, as did President Bush, before he hurt his knee, at which point he switched to cycling. The Secret Service had to accompany them, of course, but it could be done.

The Secret Service would have to coordinate things, but if the President wanted to take an unannounced walk or trip to the grocery store, he could do it.

That might mean associating with the commoners, though.

The Dana who remembers these things (5a4fb2)

  24. And Senator Obama made plenty of forays into the public, after he was the Democratic nominee and after he had Secret Service protection, when he was looking for votes. I’d guess that he’ll be doing so again starting in the summer of 2012. So it’s not like he can’t do these things; it’s just that he isn’t motivated to do these things when he’s not actively campaigning.

    The Dana who isn't a politician (5a4fb2)

  25. …squeezing the fruit…

    What?

    Come again sir?

You know everytime the guys come back from overseas-that’s what they miss-

    “squeezin’ the fruits”…

    What the friggin’ hell?

Do like everyone here think that was-ummmm…

    “normal”?

    madawaskan (fd190b)

  26. *Does* like everyone here…

    madawaskan (fd190b)

  27. Normal?
    How normal is Teh Won?
I doubt that a computer search, using the known metrics of his life, would find any close matches.

    AD-RtR/OS! (5b0e13)

  28. When he tries normal, he takes bike rides on flat tires, and orders Dijon mustard on a greasy spoon cheeseburger. He would not know normal if it bit him in the ass.

    JD (3dfbdf)

  29. You know how he’s always fixated on arugula?

I swear I just found this by accident:

    *****

The Araguaia guerrilla (Portuguese: Guerrilha do Araguaia) was an armed movement against the military dictatorship of Brazil, active between 1966-1974 in the Araguaia river banks. It was founded by militants of the Communist Party of Brazil, an armed dissidence of the Brazilian Communist Party which aimed at a socialist revolution in the rural areas of the country in order to overthrow the Brazilian military government, which had been in power since the 1964 coup d’état.[1] Its activities were based on the successful experiences led by the 26th of July Movement in the Cuban Revolution and by the Communist Party of China during the Chinese Civil War.

    madawaskan (fd190b)

  30. The current female head in brazil is an avowed anti-whitey communist so communism has not stopped racism well against white people anyways.

    DohBiden (984d23)

  31. Roussef comes from two other groups, COLINA and VAR, but you’re right on the sentiment, from her
wiki, which was way too long.

    narciso (8a8b93)

  32. One thing about the low approval ratings of Obama … President Obama is so unpopular that Kenyans have begun claiming he was born in the United States.
