Good News: Obama Got in a Round of Golf Today

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 8:53 pm

I think I tend to resent these stories more when I am cooped all weekend working. Which, come to think of it, is about as often as this guy plays golf.

UPDATE: Link fixed. Thanks, happy.

  1. Well, what do you expect? It’s not like there’s anything important going on in the world. Time hangs heavy on his hands. Why, just the other day he called Biden just to see if anything was up.

Okay, that’s all the snark I’ve got. Carry on.

  2. your link is missing the .html part Mr. P here is a good one I think

  3. Maybe he golfs so much because no one bullies him on the links.

  5. I plan to golf this coming week. I’m not the leader of the free world, though. Golf is fun, though, except if you happen to be Japanese or Libyan.

    I can’t do much except say http://www.redcross.com.

  6. Give the guy a break.

Do you think it’s easy figuring out how to vote present when you’re the president?

  7. Golf is the only activity Obama has that doesn’t do harm to our country. Every decision he’s made in office has been disastrous (save one – he did choose Bo as first dog). Its the only activity he has that we should approve of.

Seriously, is there likely to be a single decision in the next two years that he’d likely make that would actually result in improving either our freedom or prosperity? Not a chance. He’ll make the wrong choice every time. He’s a Statist. He will choose Socialist Tyranny over Freedom and Prosperity every time.

If only he’d bring Harry Reid with him…

  8. We have a small pathetic feckless tiny little man as President.

    JÐ (68ff46)

  9. Actually the golf course is probably one of the few places he can cop a smoke without Michelle catching him.

Take his cigs away and he might get twitchy and make a decision.

    MU789 (14bc2b)

  10. All he does in the White House is think up practical jokes to play on Biden.

His favorite is to call Biden into the Oval Office and tell him to take a seat in the corner. That’s always good for keeping the VP busy through lunchtime.

Will you fix that Ð already? We’re not in Iceland, for chrissakes.

  13. Always in motion.. vacation, golf, concerts, rental pads. It’s like they always, always keep him mobile. Keep moving, keep talking to the handlers. This guy is tossed around like a hot potato for a reason.

    — Hey! Have you ever seen his swing?

    FORE!!!

[Actually, it’s when he swings to the left that the country needs to worry.]

  18. Apparently, Captain Zero thinks union work rules apply to the presidency.

    5th Level Fighter (dd5bcf)

  19. Come on, Patterico. Our president has an extremely difficult decision to make this weekend. He needs a clear mind. This decision has national impact.
Barack has to make his bracket selections for March Madness.
Now you, get back to work.

  20. The only damage o can do on a golf course is create divots. His screw ups won’t hurt the country while he plays golf.

  21. Give His Majesty a break: continually delaying, denying, stonewalling, and prevaricating is hard work, dude!

  22. He’s not really golfing, he’s practicing bowing.

  23. Is anybody else on the edge of their seats waiting for the inevitable ‘The One picks the NCAA Basketball tournament brackets’ this week?

It’s funny how the media pimps this as ‘he’s so smart, he’s so cool, he even knows college basketball minutia’ as if this is a plus for a President. They, both the media and President, should be hiding this away because it seems fairly obvious that what is going on is that his ‘real job’ is too hard so he consumes himself in hobbies. Do we want a President that knows how to pronounce the point guard of UConn’s name and his assist average but doesn’t once meet the Senate Minority leader in the White House for the first two years in office? Who can believe that Obama is a geek that ‘knows everything about everything’ when he pronounces Orion as ‘Or-e-on’ and thinks a Corpseman is the Navy’s mortuary staff?

    East Bay Jay (19f566)

  24. Clearly Geo. Bush didn’t play enough golf.

  26. It’s the divots that he’s trying to carve out of the Constitution that worry me.

    Icy Texan (b93831)

  27. Have any of you ever seen our beloved President actually take a golf swing? If he plays golf anything like he bowls he would be pathetic. I have not seen any video of him playing golf nor have I seen any stories about his prowess on the golf cource, which you know, if he were any good the MSM would love to credit him for.

    BT (74cbec)

  28. BT – I have seen (several times) the video of a single swing on cable news shows. It is very bad. Of course the media gave him several tries to get a reasonable looking basketball shot. (Try and imagine them doing the same for W.)

    Have Blue (854a6e)

  29. Notice how you have never seen mention in the MSM a comparison of Bush and Obama throwing a baseball. It’s a good thing he has daughters, or he’d have to get a secret-service person to play “catch” with his kids.

Which is fitting, since baseball is known as the great American pastime.

  31. I’d be far less inclined to complain about this if we hadn’t had to tolerate the eight years of moonbat howling every time GWB went to Crawford for a weekend (with modern communication meaning that he was fully in contact with the rest of the world during those stays). Eye for an eye.

    M. Scott Eiland (27aed4)

  32. How often did we see the video of President Bush talking to a reporter and then saying “watch this!” before a golf swing?

    SPQR (26be8b)

  33. __________________________________________

The Hippocratic Oath includes the saying “do no harm.” That concept should apply to politicians too. Therefore, it would be a sensible, practical and correct thing if the current occupant of the Oval Office were out on the golf course every day, every hour, every minute, until 2012 and — to be on the safe side — beyond. Keep him as far removed from the White House as possible.

  34. The obamacratic oath says I president for life obama are better than you peons i can do whatever i want beeyotch.

    DohBiden (984d23)

  35. Our President, focused like a “laser” on high speed rail, salad bars, school bullies, and golf.

Relax bros- we’re in the best of hands.

  36. So I watched Meet the Press today, followed by “Your Weekly Address” read by President Obama. In it, he highlighted how March is Woman’s History Month.
No mention of anything to do with anything of any importance. Didn’t talk about Libya, the Middle East, Japan or anything else…
What country does he think he’s running?

lisa murkowski followed, and yes, did highlight the situation in Japan and talked about the need for energy policy… you know stuff that actually is important for our leaders to focus on…

    Woman’s History Month….

  37. Weird. Just today, the groupon deal was for 10 rounds of Cook County Forest Preserve Golf for $149. I will probably be shooting par by July. I blame Bush.

    carlitos (01d172)

  38. As always, of course, “more golf — less governing” should be his mantra. Better for him, better for the country.

    Icy Texan (8e21a5)

  39. Reminds me of a joke I saw in one of the early episodes of “Mad Men,” which I was watching last night (just bought Seasons 1-3 on Bluray & loving them):

A guy is just coming in from golfing when the clubhouse staff tells him he has an urgent phone call from his family doctor. “Mr. Smith,” says the doctor, “I’m sorry to have to break this news to you, but your wife has had a terrible car accident. She will be paralyzed for the rest of her life and in need of constant care, including help eating, bathing, and going to the bathroom, and she’ll be in constant pain, so she’s likely going to be very irritating. I’m afraid the rest of your life is going to be a living hell.”

“Oh my God!” gasps Mr. Smith, “Really?”

“Naw,” says the doctor, “I was just pulling your leg about everything except the car accident. Don’t worry, she’s actually dead. Hey, what’d you shoot?”

  40. (Nothing like a really tasteless joke to end a comment thread.)

    Beldar (161c3a)

  41. Didn’t somebody once say, “If the people can’t find jobs, let them play golf?”

If they used stimulus money for country club memberships it would increase the number of jobs at country clubs, probably at a better cost/job than many other uses of the money, like funding public union employee pension funds.

  42. President Telabama lives in a dream world. Borrow 40 cents on each dollar we waste on his fantasy ecofraud world means our grandkids will need $2 to pay for our 40 cent loan.

    unattorney (ab2b28)

  43. I agree with #38. I’m ok with him golfing as much as he wants. If he’s out golfing, eating slurpees in Hawaii, etc, he’s not thinking up new ways to screw up the economy.
