Updates on John Wiley Price’s Black Supremacist Outburst

Filed under: General — Aaron Worthing @ 4:39 pm

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here.]

For starters, I have finally tracked down a much longer clip that shows the previous speaker calling him “Chief Mullah.”  And judge for yourself, but I think it’s very hard to claim that he was misunderstood as calling him a moolie or something like that:

(Hat tip to Black Spin’ Paul Sheppard who essentially “gets it,” too.)

Notice for example he later compares Price to Mubarak, making it clear that Islamic-style tyranny was on his mind.  And notice, too, that Price didn’t throw out the race card in a spontaneous outburst, but paused, deliberated and then threw it out.  Imho, he did it on purpose to distract from the substance of those criticisms.

Now, you might say it is a bit much to call Price a black supremacist.  But consider the words of Mike Hashimoto at the Dallas Morning News:

Yet in Price’s case, what he said also means this: “I don’t need a single white person to get re-elected for the rest of my life. This job pays $126,802 a year, and that’s just the salary part. Now that I have a county judge who will do what I want and a Commissioners Court that will vote the way I want, I will do as I please. I am the most powerful single official in Dallas County. If you don’t like it — especially if you’re white — well, go to hell.”

White supremacy has two definitions.  The first is a claim that white people are superior to other races.  The second is to claim that white people should reign over the other races—be supreme in rank.  And isn’t that Price’s attitude, only with the black people placed in the superior position?

Meanwhile, Kevin Krause, a “reporter” at the same publication, is in full damage control mode for Price, with a series of posts.  First he informs us that poor Mr. Price is getting racist and threatening phone calls and emails:

A day after Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price told some people at the commissioners meeting to go to hell, his office is receiving a lot of hateful phone calls and emails, his top assistant said.

First, way to leave out the most damaging element of the story—the racism of Price.  That’s good “reporting” there.

Second, notice the terrible sourcing on this.  Read the whole thing.  There isn’t a single email quoted.  It’s just the word of Price’s assistant.  But the post states it as fact.

Then as if that wasn’t enough water-carrying, Krause gives us this:

Dallas Commissioner John Wiley Price getting support from county employees for defending himself at meeting

Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price has taken a lot of heat for telling some of his Republican and Tea Party agitators to “Go to hell” during yesterday’s meeting.

But Price points out that he’s getting a lot of supportive emails from county officials and employees after he sent out an email to all county personnel yesterday, explaining his actions.

You got that?  He was just “defending himself.”  And of course the racial reference he made is omitted, again.  And then he brags about the support of county officials and employees, most of whom could be fired by him.  Well, that is impressive.

Also, in sharp contrast to the post claiming that Price is getting racist calls and emails, this time Krause actually quotes from the statements.  Meaning, presumably, that he has actually seen them instead of just trusting Price staffers on the subject.  Wow, man, you might actually do some journalism on this story if this goes on long enough.

And just when you thought the boot-licking and victim-identity politics couldn’t get more feeble, Krause gives us this:

Local Dallas County Muslims outraged over ‘Chief Mullah’ remark at county commission meeting

The local Islamic community is expressing outrage over a Republican speakers’ use of the word “Mullah” to attack Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price yesterday.

Whether you like it or not, guys, the term mullah is associated with theocracy and tyranny.  Deal with it.  When we were told who was the Villains on 9-11, it was Osama bin Laden and Mullah Omar.

And even in the straight reporting article Krause did, the full remarks are barely mentined.  The headline is “John Wiley Price tells residents to ‘go to hell’ in heated exchange.”  It isn’t until the fifth paragraph that the word “white” appears.  And it isn’t until the ninth paragraph that he mentions the full, offensive quote, after several times pretending the man had only said “Go to Hell.”

That is some great reporting, there, Kevin.

Meanwhile the editors at the Dallas Morning News seem to get it:

Editorial: Price crosses the line — yet again — with race remarks

All of you are white. Go to hell.

Spoken by anyone else, the words would be political suicide.

If Dallas’ mayor, schools superintendent or even an obscure zoning commissioner made a similar public statement about any race or ethnic group, it would be a career-ender — and deservedly so.

But for Dallas County’s most powerful official, incredibly, it was just another day at the office. Commissioner John Wiley Price sees no reason to apologize for dismissing the opinions of white residents and telling them repeatedly where to spend eternity. He considers this repugnant conduct appropriate for a public meeting. And his colleagues, who simply looked embarrassed but stayed silent, didn’t disagree.

It’s all good, and it ends well:

And for his part, Price should give serious consideration to whether he can be a constructive voice on this court. If, after all these years in office, he can’t absorb a few critical jabs from the taxpaying public, he should look into another line of work.

Personally I think a racist like that should automatically leave office, but aside from that quibble, I agree with most of it.

And the man who actually called Price “Chief Mullah” released his own statement:

While yesterday’s events, as the Dallas County Commissioners’ meeting came to adjournment may appear to be entertaining, the real news is not whether a particular individual citizen speaking before the Commissioners is a racist.

Racism, a form of baseless judgmentalism, violates the Judeo-Christian ethic that all humans are created in God’s image and likeness and are members of His family. Whether I am a racist is a matter between me and my God and His Church. [Note to media and Commissioner Price: I do not judge people by the color of their skin but by their words and actions]. The citizens of Dallas County do not care about some unelected person who has no power over them save the power to mark a ballot.

The real news is whether Commissioner Price has established, or is attempting to establish, a party machine political system in Dallas County, with himself being the “Boss.” Or, as I referred to him as, the “Chief Mullah.” We hear in the news about the mullahs in Iran, for example, who essentially run that sad country by dictate and corruption and who remain in power through intimidation and dismissal of any and all opponents.

This development in Dallas County should cause her citizens more than just some concern; they should be very nervous. Since the Great Correction began in 2007-2008, people have lost confidence in their government. But, at least, they generally had confidence in the integrity of the election system. In Dallas County, with the dismissal without cause of Bruce Sherbet as Elections Administrator, it is no longer clear whether the people can continue to have such confidence.

I pray for all Dallas County Commissioners, including my brother (before God) Commissioner Price, that Infinite and Divine Wisdom will show them the path, and grant them the courage, to truly govern this county unselfishly, with integrity, with wisdom and understanding, and with the respect due to their fellow commissioners and to the people (especially the people’s pocketbooks).”

Meanwhile at the American Thinker, Selwyn Duke has a great post discussing the issue:

[T]here’s little doubt that he is bigoted enough to read racial intentions into anything a white person may say….  And Price’s bias has to be intense.  After all, with the ever-present threat of Muslim terrorism having made terms such as “mullah” household words, the logical assumption is that Turner was using this very term and not some bit of slang whose widely understood definition is “money.”  Moreover, while CBS notes that Turner pronounced the word as “moolah” and leaves readers with the impression that this is an error, the station is wrong.  As Dictionary.com indicates, it is an acceptable pronunciation (it’s also the way I’ve always pronounced the word).  And given that pronouncing “Muslim” as “Mooslim” (also acceptable) is very popular among Black Muslims, one might think that Price would have known this.

I will say it is tired to say “what if a white person said that about black people.”  That is why I avoided that trope in all of this. Because if you get it, that racism is exactly as bad when it is in “reverse,” I probably don’t have to explain it.

But they get back on track pretty quickly, writing:

If a white politician had disgorged such words, it would be front-page news around the nation.  And this double standard is evident in CBS’ coverage.  Unbelievably, the headline they chose to run with is “John Wiley Price Tells Citizens To “Go To Hell.”  Are they for real?  Anyone at all interested in capturing readers and the spirit of the story would have had to include the “All of you are white” part of Price’s utterance.  It would have lit up search engines the blogosphere over and driven more trafficto the site.  Instead, the Effluent Stream media has once again signaled that, as much as they want to grab headlines, they care about something else even more: being politically correct.

Exactly. They buried the most controversial, most sensational and most interesting part of the story.  They have literally decided that covering up for Price is more important that getting readers.

And they wonder why the traditional media is dying out?

  3. See Aaron, this sort of writing is why I just go for the crude, crass and vulgar – I can’t compete, so I don’t bother. 🙂

  4. Why do white folks tip toe around people like him?

I would have shouted him down calling him a thug POS n*ggah if told me that.

But that is me, what do I know.

  5. I wouldn’t have called him a racial slur, but there are plenty of great Scott Jacobs brand terms that would fit this piece of garbage very well.

Playing games with out elections should put an official in prison.

its like i said to a wannabe bully i knew when i was a kid, who happened to be black. “I judge you not by the color of your skin but the content of your character. And you’re an a–hole.”

You’re not being fair to the Muslims. After all, if you were a mullah, wouldn’t you feel insulted by being compared to Price?

  8. Look, although I was largely ignored in the other thread, it doesn’t hurt my feelings, but let me try to put it this way:

Price is the Ted Kennedy of Dallas County politics. He will always be elected.

He has serious anger issues that don’t matter. He is the absolute ruler of Dallas County. You can like him or not, but he has built a Democratic regime that cannot be defeated.

He has every elected official in the county in his pocket, as well as the Belo Corporation. He worked at it for a very long time. People may not like his tactics, but he used them in ways that would make Sun Tzu weep.

Absolutely nothing can touch the man. He is the Kim Jong-il of Texas.

  9. I feel sorry for Dallas.

  10. JD:

As you know, I’m not defending Price, but he certainly knows how to play the game. Also remember that the county is not the city.

The current mayor, Tom Leppert may be running to replace Hutchison. He seems to be a good guy. And he did not give the key to the city to Vick. That was a councilman with the title of mayor pro-tem. Leppert objected strongly to Carraway’s action. Despite the reports, it was not really “the key to the city.”

  11. I appreciate your insight, AG80. I didn’t reply, but I thought about your description quite a lot.

  12. “I judge you not by the color of your skin but the content of your character. And you’re an a–hole.”

I had a line much like that. The guy wasn’t a bully, exactly, but someone who threw the race card like it was candy at a parade.

“I don’t judge you by the color of your skin, but by the content of your character… And your character’s content f**king sucks, dude.”

Even as a sophomore, I was pretty blunt.

i think i understand the spirit you say that in.

I don’t agree, but you’re not saying you want him in power, just that you can’t stop the b-stard.

    Aaron Worthing (73a7ea)

  14. Dustin:

No problem, but local politics are often removed from removed from the national scene.

Sometimes that results in inexperienced local pols suddenly elevated to important positions.

    So it goes.

    Ag80 (7a9f97)

  15. AW: I really don’t try to be unclear.

Price is really popular in the county. I disagree with his politics. My opinion doesn’t matter. I can recognize someone who knows how to amass power without agreeing with the method or the motive.

I may wish that I had the ability to do the same, but I don’t. However, I am fascinated not only by those who posses that ability and those who follow without question.

    Ag80 (7a9f97)

when i watch the story, i see a man who is in trouble. he stepped over a major line. and i have enough faith in the people of dallas that they won’t allow for it.

    but i could be wrong.

    Aaron Worthing (73a7ea)

  17. AW: As much as I would like to agree with you, reality does not allow.

Price is not only a local hero, he is considered a political sage. That’s why I said he is similar to Ted Kennedy.

He could say Lincoln screwed sheep and the local media and his constituients would say how many and why not more?

    Ag80 (7a9f97)

  18. Let’s remember that some parts of Texas defy reality.

Sheila Jackson Lee. Ron Paul. Cowboys Fans.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  19. It’s not just Texas, Dustin.

    Ag80 (7a9f97)

  20. As expected, the media torture tour has started, complete with the obligatory visit to the local mosque.

Every time someone tries to express an opinion, the tolerance police have to extract their justice.

  21. People of Dallas will someday say, ENOUGH IS ENough. This man doesn’t care what white people think. Well Dallas ever get WISE?

    Angel (80a3bb)

  22. While I do not condone the words of Commissioner Price, he was addressed with such deep disrespect I can not blame him for losing his temper. And no he is not telling all white people to go to hell just the white people in the audience.
