Palate Cleanser: The Daily Show Mercilessly Mocks San Fran’s Happy Meal Ban

The especially fun part is when they stump the law’s primary backer with an example involving Netflix:

You see, its hypocritical to say that you can’t force Netflix to send everyone a copy of Super Size Me, on one hand, and… oh, wait, no, Daily Show… Don’t do it! You’ll give him ideas!
I walked away from The Daily Show a few years back when they devolved into “here’s the Democratic talking points, however dishonest, with jokes!” They always leaned left, but it used to be that they wouldn’t put up with actual B.S. from liberals. The only thing that seemed to break it up for a while was the presidential primary in 2008, because then there was no clear “liberal” answer to many questions. Then when the nominee was chosen, they went back to just aping the Democratic talking points, mainly. But this clip suggests maybe I need to watch again and see if they improved.

But… it seemed funny to me in a different way. Was that video legit? Did they really interview this guy, or was that a cut-and-paste job? No objections, since the guy deserves to be mocked – but it might be best not to count on that being a literal rendition of his argument.

ROFLMAO Perhaps you should look closer– most of the comedy material– usually the funniest stuff on The Daily Show– are clips drawn ‘right’ from Newscorp’s Fox.

Many of their funny clips do relate to FNC, but the funniest stuff they have is South Park and mockery of political douches. They also have been much harsher to CNN than they’ve been towards FNC, with good reason.
You were too busy at Langley, piloting your SR-71, to catch this, but if you think their mission is only to bash FNC, or their funniest stuff has been that project, you’re missing at least 90% of their good material.
Of course, if you’re a partisan hack seeking a self congratulatory bubble, you ignore that stuff.

FNC is just the gift that keeps on giving. They’re EEO lampooners. Frankly, if you can access some CNN footage from 15 or 20 years ago it was a much better ‘rip-and-read’ styled news operation. ‘News’ was the ‘star,’ not personalities. More’s the pity.

FNC is a step up in conveying information. It’s still TV, though, and you can only get so much information in a period of time. The internet is the reason the Tea Party was able to happen.

CNN was a pretty sound news organization back then given the alternatives at the time, but yes, agreed, television in general remains a limited portal for news gathering in general– such is the limitations of the medium. Back in ’86 CNN covered the Challenger mess live when other TV outlets faultered, though. Print– text on the web now– still adds depth and perspective. You can slam Arnett all you want but the evening the war began remains riveting television, even though it was essentially a radio broadcast. Frankly CNN’s coverage of the collapse of the Soviet Union stays with me most. Amanpour on a roof top with tank fire in Moscow- live. Amazing stuff. FNC is just an outlet w/a particular POV. So are the other cablers. There’s nothing wrong with that as long as the viewer recognizes it for what it is. Your preference reveals your own POV so your ‘step up’ is down market and to the right programming. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Your choice. My broadcast preferences are NBC News and MSNBC – seasoned w/Colbert & Stewart. And the reason the ‘tea party’ materialized is because the existing parties were failing the expectations of a slice of the electorate- and its not limited to the right. The web was a conduit. If history is a guide, it most likely it’ll be absorbed into the GOP– but it’s early and time will tell.
