Helen Thomas in Her Anti-Semitic Rant Video: By the Way, We had No Reason to Attack Afghanistan, Either

This is a follow up to yesterday’s item where Helen Thomas gave an anti-Semitic speech before an “Arab Detroit workshop on anti-Arab bias.” Now we have video of it. Mostly this just shows us the speech was pretty much everything reported. Only the extra tidbit is her claim that both Iraq and Afghanistan were unjustified wars.
And let me add, to me the story is not that this retiree is a raving anti-Semite. No, the story is the acceptance of that anti-Semitism. As she said that we had no just cause for this fight, no one objected. When she said that Jews Zionists run the media, no one raised a peep. And while not everyone joined in the standing ovation, everyone gave her a hearty round of applause. And no one booed.
I would have booed, if I didn’t walk out immediately.
And one other thing. Does any of you believe that in her years of working in journalism, that this is the first time she has expressed these views?

I know of at least one possible reason why she might not have expressed these opinions until now, and it’s a rather unfortunate reason: the earlier stages of Alzheimer’s. The earliest stages of the disease don’t affect the memory but the parts of the brain that control logic and judgment. Simply put, if she has the disease (which I wish upon neither her nor anyone else), she’s losing the common sense that would tell her that 1)some of her opinions are at best wildly speculative and 2)she should keep them to herself if she doesn’t want to sound idiotic: in earlier life she might have had the sense to keep her bigotry under wraps, while now she doesn’t.
(This of course is simply speculative on my part since I know of no other evidence to indicate she has Alzheimer’s. But she’s certainly old enough to be in a common age range for the disease.)

Maybe Ms Thomas is genuinely frightened by the levels of anti Arab/islamic bigotry in the country right now and, being human, and maybe being an elderly human who is losing it a bit, she is seeking to blame some group.
I think the whole thing is sad. She used to be good at something and now she is destroying her credibility and in many people’s minds the credibility of all of her work before with nutty, unacceptable theories on who the CABAL is.
