What’s Lamer…?

What’s lamer than Rachel Maddow repeating a lame talking point put out by her network that is then thoroughly debunked by Johnny Dollar?

Keith Olbermann repeating the exact same talking point, after Johnny Dollar made Rachel Maddow look like a hypocritical hack.

That’s right, if you look at the second video, here, at right about the 1:30 mark, he said that the reason why he didn’t disclose his donations was because he felt that if he disclosed those donations then his followers would have donated, too: “and then suddenly I am [perceived as] fundraising for them passive-aggressively and suddenly we’re accidentally Fox.”

Oh and for bonus points, did Keith Olbermann allow fundraising on his show?  Well, watch the Johnny Dollar video, here, and start watching at about the 2:40 for your answer.

Myself, I can’t watch any more of Olbermann tonight.  I just can’t ingest that much smug.  It’s bad for my lungs.

  2. Actually its more of a rhetorical question….

  3. First, MSNBC is really, seriously, Bizarro-world.

It’s only audience is a few people on the East and West coasts, with Chicago thrown in along with suburbs of a few major and minor cities. Granted, that’s a lot of people, apparently about 2 million or so. It’s pretty much the NPR of televised news and commentary.

So, here’s what I would do if I were Comcast:

Keep Keith and Rachel. Everybody on the left loves people who can arch their eyebrows and pretend to be Letterman, except all serious and political all the time like those irritating people you met in college.

Get rid of Schulz and O’Donnell. First, fat guys are Republicans. Second, a guy who wears glasses and claims to be a socialist should probably be living in Cuba. They scare the old people.

Hire Hollywood heroes to do commentary. Sure, none of them have any kind of education, but everybody loves the opinion of Clooney, Pitt, Damon, et al, because they are famous, have a lot of money and are easy on the eyes. They will do it to stick it to the man that pays their salaries.

Throw in a couple of women, too. I recommend Garofalo and Silverman. They could do some sort of Stalinist “The View” with tats and Birkenstocks. Liberate them from youtube.

Also, hire all the conspiracy theorists and other right-thinkers from Court TV (or whatever they’re calling themselves these days), the History Channel, Discovery and TLC.

Stay away from Current, though. It’s young people being boring. Nothing is worse than young people being boring.

Also, lure Chelsea Handler away from E! for the drunk perspective. She can go against Gutfield.

Finally, make sure you get Pamela Anderson. She can liberate animals while attracting the STD community as well as the basement-dwelling, mouth-breathers.

I will expect some sort of payment for my services, though.

  4. Politicians asking for support on someone’s TV show is quite a different thing from a TV news anchor/analyst/pundit donating money directly…. or a net like FoxNews donating $1 million dollars to a political party.

    False argument.

    W (9df40f)

  5. a TV news anchor/analyst/pundit donating money directly

You can’t possibly be serious. Keith did that.

Newscorp made that contribution rather than Fox News itself, so you have to look into General Electric’s donations ($8,893,656 since 1999).

But W misses the point completely.

His proof Fox News gave money? A link to Fox News. That’s a lot different from MSNBC saying, through Maddow and Keith, that they do not do what they obviously are doing.

The real point here is that MSNBC is not honest.

  6. I can’t stand Olbermann.

  7. “like FoxNews donating $1 million dollars to a political party.”

W – You have been corrected on this before. Fox News made no such contribution. News Corporation made a contribution. Tell us about General Electrics contributions if you want to make an apples to apples comparison, idiot.

  8. Dustin – Missed your #5.

    daleyrocks (940075)

  9. No problem, Daleyrocks. It’s interesting that the only way to defend MSNBC is to be crazy or dishonest.

  10. W lies, brain cells die.

    Icy Texan (5cbf21)

  11. Olby makes O’Reilly look humble by comparison.

But aren’t all MSNBC talking heads arrogant twits?

    Estragon (ec6a4b)

  12. B-b-but Fox, she shrieked[faint].

    wiff (ccbf3d)

  13. Wow W, you showed us.

You know, its hard to be lamer than Keith Olbermann was in this post, but darn it, you succeeded!

  14. AW – that is not W. It is william the plagiarizing racist hilljack Yelverton, who is scared of brown people that can spell. Or pam. Depending on how fresh he is feeling.

I watched Olbergasms show last night. He makes Beck seem like a man in control of his emotions.

  15. I disagree.

Johnny Dollar didn’t made Rachel Maddow look like a hypocritical hack – he revealed her to be the hypocritical hack that she is!

    i stand corrected. heh.

  17. nickels and dimes! nickels and dimes! nickels and dimes! nickels and dimes! nickels and dimes! nickels and dimes! nickels and dimes! nickels and dimes!

They need to include a blood pressure warning a the beginning of the video. I haven’t rewatched it since I saw it over a day ago, but that little smug creepy comment will really stay with me for a long time.

The most basic difference between Fox News and MSNBC, other than Fox having so many differing viewpoints, is that MSNBC is deliberately much more deceptive about itself. FNC isn’t demanding its pundits hide their leanings the way Keith failed to. It’s not pretending its pundits are objective the way Keith and Rachel pretend.
