Update on Marine Corps Shootings (Update: Breaking News on Possible Fourth Attack)

Filed under: General — Aaron Worthing @ 5:34 am

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here.]

At the very heavily commented post “Political Violence is an Indictment Against the Cause that Motivates it… Except When We Do It,” I noted the story of what I am calling the Marine Corps shootings, saying:

[P]olice recently linked together the shootings at the Pentagon and the National Museum of the Marine Corps, and there is a third shooting at the Marine recruiting station in Chantilly, Virginia (that is fairly close to the other two).  I bet that is some right-wing extremist doing that, right?

Well, in an update to that story, the third shooting has been linked to the other two.  You can read up on this, here.

So far no one has been hurt in all of this, but the obvious fear is that this is a probing attack or the like.  And one tipster [Update: it was DRJ] emailed this ominous observation: “And the Marine Corp[s] Marathon is this weekend.”

Let’s hope the authorities are sufficiently concerned.

Update: I just got word that last night was another attack.  This time it was the National Museum of the Marine Corps, for a second time.  Obviously we can’t be sure whether it was the same guy or a copycat until we get ballistics results, but you have to wonder.  Also, like the previous attacks, no one was injured.

Update (II): Security is reportedly being beefed up in the Marathon.  I have some concerns, but I think I will keep them to myself.  I don’t want even a 1% chance of the bad guy getting any ideas.

  1. Let’s hope the authorities are sufficiently concerned

Watching the local news last night, I would say they are.

  3. In all fairness to the left — it is likely this is a disgruntled ex-Marine …. and no doubt if so Vietnam or Iraq or Afghanistan will be blamed.

  4. Which political side provides us with the gun-nut, anti-government nutjobs ?

  5. W,

Last I checked the guys who pull the lever for DEMOCRAT are more likely to murder, be pedophiles, live off the dole, and not pay taxes.

So if you want to argue “gun nuts” we can go to Brooklyn together and I can show you what the Liberal Media won’t … the folks most likely to use guns in crime are not Republicans, but Democrats.

  6. W continues to provide great amusement by blowing the lute out of his backside. As for the Marines, I surely hope that we’re going to allow them to be armed at all times from now on.

  7. Uncanny – as if right on cue.

anti-government types are not typically haters on the marines. they are typically liberals or islamic terrorists. or occasionally liberal terrorists.

Well, with a sniper, i am not sure it will do alot of good to be armed.

  11. Again, “W” has been doing a double shot of aspartame and Splenda.

Anyway, when the character starts spouting off about how “antiscience” the Right is, keep in mind the bizarre stuff he believes regarding science. Of which he knows very little.

More music, less venom, Professor Yelverton.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  12. Seriously, Dmac, check out the guy’s website. Insert that “loon” sound effect when you do.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  13. Good point, AW – but the fact that in all of these incidents the intended targets were unarmed speaks poorly of their superior’s attitudes regarding their charges at present. The Fort Hood shooting was beyond pathetic – you had poor Marines being killed point – blank while attempting to defend themselves by throwing chairs at the shooter. I cannot wait until this trial gets into the middle stages – hearing the commander’s PC explanations for why the shooter was allowed to stay in the service (despite all evidence to the contrary) will be most eye – opening, to say the least.

  14. I only saw the music stuff at the top of the site, Eric – are there other entries detailing the awesome professor’s great scientific intellect I’m not aware of? BTW, I have a few friends in TN that might be interested in attending some of Zamfir’s concerts in the future. Mmmmm – panflute.

  15. All the “gun nut” arguments are strange to me. They revolve around government knowing what is best in a situation when it was not present. It’s not the gun that is the problem, it is the people. Maybe we should not let people drive. After all, drunk drivers kill how many people each year?

    Certainly!
And, Corps members entered in the Marathon should turn out with full field gear, locked and loaded!

  17. Dmac, scroll down on his blog for his deep thoughts on nutrition. He likes to eat nuts, which all kinds of funny.

Uh…Fort Hood is an ARMY base…you know, with SOLDIERS!

  19. i’m glad people here are not falling for the “gun nuts” arguement. it another liberal lie. most of the gun violence in america is not committed by the people liberal america calls “gun nuts”. i like to see a comparison of the amount of gun violence committed by NRA members and say members of the welfare state. then we might find out just who really causes gun violence in america.

  20. Yelverton hasn’t sobered up yet?

    JD (0ea0b7)

  21. This is not the first attack on military personnel he in the states. It is … Inconvenient … to note who has done this perviously. See, Arkansas, Fort Hood. Yelveton lives in a fantasy world where the Paul incident was the worst EVAH and the left has never engaged in actual violence, see, Gladney, finger biting, shooting offices, etc …

    JD (0ea0b7)

  22. JD

well, hell JD, everyone keeps forgetting that a rand paul supporter was “stomped” on too. no one cares about that.

  23. “I would have never started watching Fox News if it wasn’t for the fact that Beck was on there. And it was the things that he did, it was the things he exposed that blew my mind.” – Byron Williams

On July 18th, ex-felon Byron Williams engaged California Highway Patrol officers in a 12-minute shootout, employing three firearms and a small arsenal of ammunition. Eventually, body armor-clad Williams surrendered, with two of 10 CHP officers injured.

proving you haven’t even listened to my argument on this point.

Let’s try this. say a black person mugged me. it would be wrong for me to conclude based on that that all black people are bad, right?

But its perfectly fine to blame beck and all beck listeners for the actions of one guy.

You can cut the hypocrisy with a knife.

    Aaron Worthing (e7d72e)

  25. I think that every time Professor Yelverton posts insulting and rude things, instead of engaging people with courtesy, we need only post a YouTube of Zamfir of the Panpipes.

And also bring up his foolishness on artificial sweetners.

And the fact he likes to eat nuts. Which makes his insult toward the Tea Party even more ironic.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  26. Eric, tell us about your personal relationship with Christ.

    W (9df40f)

  27. Yelverton – tell us about your carnal relations with your kitteh.

    JD (f14b28)

  28. Yelverton likes to plagiarized too. That tends to be frowned upon in academia, no? Fortunately for Willie the racist hilljack skin flute player, he is no academic, despite his claims.

    JD (f14b28)

  29. “when the character starts spouting off about how “antiscience” the Right is”

Eric – Remember this is the Administration that altered the conclusions of its scientists on the Gulf oil spill multiple times, had the EPA cut its own scientist out of its CO2 findings, appointed a Supreme Court Justice who phonied up medical conclusions on abortion and tries to do end runs around Congress to implement its agenda on what should be legislative matters.

The right is anti-science my a*s. Willie’s fingers are pointing back at himself as what the left accuses the right of doing they are usually doing in spades themselves.

  30. “Eventually, body armor-clad Williams surrendered, with two of 10 CHP officers injured.”

Willie – What is the conclusion you draw from this incident? What is the conclusion you drew from the guy who took the Discovery Channel building hostage or the Professor who shot her minority colleagues at UAB Huntsville last year?

  32. Willie just “knows” that we need a law to prevent felons
(BTW, Professor, how do you become an ex-felon sans a Presidential/Gubernatorial Pardon, and full restoration of rights?)
    from acquiring firearms…
    Oh…Wait…Never mind!

To believe anything this incredibly stupid requires Post-Graduate Education.

    AD-RtR/OS! (1808fa)

  33. Professor Yelverton did this before, JD. I think he has a pretty unhappy life. I mean, eating nuts the way he does.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  34. Hey, daley…

That is what I find so alternately sad and amusing about the Left: they have no trouble sneering at the preconceptions of others…yet seem curiously unaware of their own preconceptions.

Why, it is like someone who lists ingredients on a label and rages that they aren’t “natural.” Well, botulin toxin is natural too.

I’ll be the same person misuses the term “organic” all the time.

Yet that person will try to insult others about their so-called lack of scientific knowledge.

I mean, the last time he was doing this, I urged him to explain some first year biology concepts. His response was to issue more insults, then sneak away.

But here he is again, venom a-spewing.

    And nuts a-eating.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  35. Just whose nuts are we talking about here, Eric?

    [Name corrected. -Aaron]

    Dmac (ad2c6a)

  36. Whoops, sorry about that last one.

    Dmac (ad2c6a)

  37. Thanks for the hat tip, Aaron, and for correcting what I’d like to think was a dumb typo.
