Odd Video of the Day

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing]

This is video of Barney Frank’s opponent Sean Bielat being heckled.  By Barney Frank’s boyfriend.  You know, the one arrested and fined for growing pot.

Now, I guess it isn’t fair to hold the behavior of his boyfriend against Frank.  I do think it’s fair to hold the fact his boyfriend was growing pot right under his nose, or the fact that another boyfriend ran a prostitution ring out of Frank’s house against him.  But not because a boyfriend acted a little kooky on camera.

  1. It must be tough to be in the first truly competitive election of your life, and have your boyfriend get his thong all in a twist and pitch a hissy fit in public.

OTOH, if he had had to fight for reelection, Frank would probably have some seasoned political staffers to a) handle harassing the opponent for him, and b) suggest that his boyfriend looks a bit pale and would benefit from a vacation in Bermuda until after the election.

But the desperation comes through. Barney just might be going down.

  4. Guys, I am going to ask you to refrain from insulting Frank in a way that insults all gay people. i believe i remember patterico actually saying something to that effect.

There are lots of things we can make fun of that are very specific to barney frank and not gay people generally.

    Aaron Worthing (f97997)

  5. AW, you need to chill. How on earth is that comment insulting to “all gay people?” There is a certain class of people who get bent out of shape for no reason. The type that says calling someone the “C” word, for example, (not something I encourage)is somehow demeaning to all women. Yet, point out that calling some one a pr**k must therefore be demeaning to all men and they stare blankly at you. To sum up, the act on which we were riffing, if you will, is neither hetero nor homo-specific. Get over yourself.

  6. Gazzer, seriously, “get over yourself?” You didn’t just write that, did you?

You were way out of line there. And AW didn’t request anything draconian but rather something quite reasonable. If you don’t want to respect AW as a person, respect the fact Patterico invited him as a guest blogger. Or as the military says, “Salute the rank, not the person.”

  7. I’m reading the post where the video was located. You know, I think Barney actually doesn’t have a real campaign staff. I’m pretty sure he’s run practically unopposed for so long he’s forgotten how to run a campaign.

I haven’t checked it myself, but one of my friends in Newton was complaining about all of the Bielat campaign signs in her neighborhood. In Newton! That is big trouble for Barney.

  8. One wonders what the reaction of our friends in the mainstream media would have been had the wife of a candidate showed up to heckle her husband’s opponent.

OK, that’s a lie: no one wonders about that at all.

  9. Question: if Sean Bielat actually won, could the voters be prosecuted for a hate crime?

  10. I watched the “debate” where Bawney did his usual MO by filibustering the entire 29 – minute affair. Even his lackey moderator had finally had it with his constant interruptions and outright smears of his opponent. He’s always come across as a kind of Mr. Magoo of politics, and he sounds even more like Buddy Hacket these days (but without the hilarity).

  11. BTW, I appreciate AW’s point here, but Bawney’s been screeching homophobia for most of his entire career, primarily as a means of shutting down legitimate debate. His boyfriend’s a pathetic loser, and it should be noted by the press who his partner in life is and why he was there in the first place – that’s definitely a fair point.

well, more like i am just respecting that its patterico’s blog, and i am just borrowing it.

personally i am so libertarian that but for patterico’s feelings on the subject i wouldn’t have said anything.

  13. My question is,is barney a crime vector to be tracted by law enforcement or a desease vector to be tracted by the CDC?

  14. Knowing Gazzer, I don’t think his comment was intended as a slur on gay people.

Aaron does articulate the proper standard. I just don’t think Gazzer was running afoul of it here.

  16. Frank is the responsibility of the idiots (sorry) that keep voting that guy in – and all the other morons straight or otherwise
