Right Wing Extremist Holding Hostages at Gunpoint at Discovery Channel Building

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:52 pm

What’s that, you say? He is an environmental nut, and therefore unlikely to be a right-winger?

Don’t worry. They’ll find a way to label him a right-winger — or at least a Tea Partier. Somehow.

You’ll see.

Anything but a lefty.

P.S. Allahpundit says it well:

I’m not going to blame the actions of a nut on all lefties and environmentalists. I will, however, be sure to remind them of this the next time they pull that on the right. Which they do, merrily, at every conceivable opportunity.

Indeed.

P.P.S. As I recently said in a related context:

It doesn’t really matter what this guy’s beliefs are; he alone is responsible for his actions. Any analysis that does not put that fact front and center is playing the other side’s game.

Blame the criminal, period. Too bad the left can’t learn this simple concept.

UPDATE: I should mention that the right wing extremist has been shot dead. Good riddance.

UPDATE x2: Right on cue, just as predicted, comes Think Progress and its brainless commenters.

  1. Not only is this guy a nutsoid…there’s more of him!: savetheplanetprotest at myspace.com.

  2. More left-wing violence that the MSM will cover up.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  3. He commented on reducing immigration of filthy babies. That’s enough for the liars to say it’s questionable what side’s fringe he’s on.

Of course, it is not. the left is violent and repeatedly told to get in the faces of a ridiculously demonized right wing that want slavery and war and poverty.

I’m surprised these nuts are as rare as they are… and they aren’t so rare.

We know it was a leftist who crashed his plane into the IRS building. We know it was probably a leftist who burned down the Texas Governor’s mansion. We know who wanted to bomb the St Paul convention. We get it.

And we get that the left will lie about it.

  4. He’s just pissed off that Shark Week ended.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  5. Who will ask Algore about this?

    either orr (6d4ded)

  6. He’s against human pollution. He wants to stop immigration and anchor babies and the 1st world feeding the 3rd world, which just breeds more human pollution.

    He’s obviously a xenophobic, nativist, gun-toting winger.

  7. They should send in those two dudes from Dual Survival and Bear Grylls. They can’t be killed! Seriously, nothing can kill them. They always seem to survive.

  8. Where’s Raylan Givens when you need him?

  9. Hostage negotiation is a Dirty Job. Somebody get Mike Rowe on the phone!

    Birdbath (8501d4)

  10. Think Progress is already on the immigration angle and comparing this guy to Numbers USA and other anti-illegal immigration groups.

  11. A little levity….

    Reader William Tanner writes:
I went to Yale from 1988 to 1992 — we had t-shirts that said 20 years of women at Yale. What’s next, men at Harvard?
I always thought that was funny, and now I realize it was true.”

  12. Amen, AD. Raylen Givens would shoot them dead dead dead. Best show on TV.

    JD (fc59fb)

  13. He needs to shoot his pappy first. Evilest relative of a protaganist since Nancy Marchand’s mother to Tony Soprano.

  14. BTW, anything with Walton Goggins is quite good.

    Dmac (d61c0d)

  15. Okay, here’s the plan to save the hostages. Paul Teutel busting through the front doors on a custom chopper. Followed the Storm Chasers. We’ll overwhelm him with weird vehicles!

    Birdbath (8501d4)

  16. bilby, that link is one of the most insane things I’ve read in my life. People are complaining that he’s being labeled a “environmentalist” with scare-quotes. A lot of them are bashing some commenter by insisting he doesn’t have an ‘current’ examples of left wing terrorism… while it’s as plain as day that we do.

And what’s really interesting is just how angry and hateful a lot of the comments are at thinkprogress. They know this guy shares a lot more in common with them than his lefty politics.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  17. Dmac – the writers on that show are sensational, and you are right about the Dad. Both the fathers are flat out evil.

    JD (04ebf2)

  18. Birdbath, Cody Lundin from Dual Survival would talk his ear off. His book is good stuff.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  19. By coincidence, a lefty relative recently gave me “A World Without Us” to read.

It’s a longing, wistful imagining of a future world without human beings in it, and how quickly the environment would recover once we’re not around.

I sounds like Lee was immersed in this mindset, whether he read this particular book or not.

    Subotai (a6ad7d)

  20. Gunman shot, “in custody” and hostages safe.

  21. OMG, Is this the start of a Gore cult spawned generation?

  22. If this is an example of the quality of his followers, we don’t seem to have much to fear.

Any reports on the seriousness of the gunman’s wounds?
It would be a shame if he was unable to stand trial.

    AD - RtR/OS! (30a4ff)

  23. ^if it is, they better get cracking on building all of those 10,000 square footers to live in – and not just one, but three would be ideal. Then they can dial up private Lear jet services to arrange for their global travels, in order to make millions via fraudulent carbon – trading schemes (corporate blackmail).

    Dmac (d61c0d)

  24. Forgot to add they must also start getting regular massages and ask for their own special Happy Endings.

    Dmac (d61c0d)

  25. A while ago (couple months, maybe?), I read a piece by Eugene Robinson about how the extreme Right is full of violence, but not the extreme Left.

I take him at his word. I must therefore conclude that the violence from the Left is not from its fringe, but from its core. To do otherwise would be raaaaacist.

    malclave (4f3ec1)

  26. Dmac, I think Lee got a “Happy Ending”.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  27. [the Silver Springs PD load their guns and point them at Jimmy Lee. Lee then points his own pistol at his head]
    Lee: [low voice]
Hold it! Next man makes a move, the treehugger gets it!
Police Chief Olson Johnson: Hold it, men. He’s not bluffing.
Dr. Sam Johnson: Listen to him, men. He’s just crazy enough to do it!
Lee: [low voice] Drop it! Or I swear I’ll blow this treehugger’s head all over this town!
Lee: [high-pitched voice] Oh, lo’dy, lo’d, he’s desp’it! Do what he say, do what he say!
[SSPD drop their guns. Lee jams the gun into his neck and drags himself through the crowd towards the station]
    Harriet Johnson:
Isn’t anybody going to help that poor man?
Dr. Sam Johnson: Hush, Harriet! That’s a sure way to get him killed!
    Lee: [high-pitched voice] Oooh! He’p me, he’p me! Somebody he’p me! He’p me! He’p me! He’p me!
    Lee: [low voice] Shut up!
[Lee places his hand over his own mouth, then drags himself through the door into his office]

  28. It is Bush’s fault.

    HeavenSent (e230a5)

  29. You know this will be the fate of every eco-terrorist hostage situation.
Because the powers that be have too many billions of dollars invested in holding us all hostage to the eco cult.

A tree hugger with a gun demanding the same stuff they impose through backroom deals, thats bad optics.

Jimmy Lee is going down everytime. He has to be dead, because a trial is not an option.

Now go read some Climate Progress and realize there’s not a pinch of difference between Joe And Jimmy.

    papertiger (6e11b6)

  30. A friend of mine lives two blocks from there. He has children in the local schools, and says:

Both the girls got sent home early from school. The middle school called parents to say that “due to increased traffic, your child is being sent home early.” The high school called parents to say “DUE TO THE TERRORIST BOMB THREAT YOUR CHILD IS BEING SENT HOME EARLY.”

    aphrael (e0cdc9)

  31. ‘…a lefty relative recently gave me “A World Without Us” to read.’

    A world without lefties?

    I like it.

    Dave Surls (72ced7)

  32. Our local CBS Affiliate did not mention he was an Al Gore acolyte.

Gee, what a coincidence. I remember the White dude at the Holocaust Memorial getting all sorts of Tea-Bag coverage.

    HeavenSent (e230a5)

  33. In fact, they did not mention a word about why he held three hostages.

    HeavenSent (e230a5)

  34. Maybe he should have read Tom Clancy’s “Rainbow Six.” At the end

    —spoiler alert—–

All the radical enviros are turned loose naked in the jungle.

  36. He sure went the long way around to subtract the ‘human filth’ from the earth by one unit.

Or as the boys in Vegas would say: “he’s making his point the hard way” (h/t Tony Curtis).

    See his “Rainbow Six”.

  44. The uni-bomber was a leftist. Lee Harvey Oswald was a leftist. Sirhan Sirhan leaned to the left.

  45. truly off topic, but i had my appendix out last night

i’ll be fine, but it will be hard to us laptop bc i can’t lift on and off lap

so u won’t hear fm me for a few days till incisions heal.

    Aaron Worthing (f97997)

  46. Yeah, that Think Regress site and its clingers-on hate them some facts. There are no leftist inciters to violence? Lee was a right-wing nut?

I especially liked how they “voted down” comments that added missing facts and such.

    John Hitchcock (9e8ad9)

  47. I especially liked how they “voted down” comments that added missing facts and such.

Yeah, that was a striking element of the thread. They did not want to know what happened. They needed to blame this on the right. And, of course, since it’s obvious this was a hard core lefty, these same folks say it’s wrong to blame this on the left.

These people, at the drop of a hat, were saying how much this proves about Fox News and conservatism and the Tea Party.
Allahpundit’s comment, quoted at the top, is right. But it’s hard to be fair sometimes.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  48. Channel 9 news in LA tonight blamed his crackup on Al Gore’s movie and the Ishmael book!

Did I hear that right, the truth from the media?

    Patricia (358f54)

  49. “That means stopping the human race from breeding any more disgusting human babies!”–The Late Mr. Lee

You have to hand it to the guy, he hated all babies, regardless of race, color or creed.

    A true egalitarian.

  50. I blame Paul Ehrlich.

  51. Kansas, who is saying it’s ok?

    The MSM, of course.

  52. Someone should rename ThinkProgress–it sounds more like ThinkVileThoughts or ThinkStupidly over there–no progress that I could see.

  53. There’s a book defending a view similar to the gunman’s called Better Never To Have Been: The Harm of Coming into Existence. I just reviewed it on my blog, and did as fine of a job as one can reviewing a book that one has not actually read. Here’s the link if anyone’s interested: http://agentintellect.blogspot.com/2010/08/better-never-to-have-been-written.html
