Texas Officials to Feds: Don’t Mess With Texas’ Oil and Gas

Filed under: Government — DRJ @ 4:56 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Ten top Texas officials including Governor Rick Perry have written an open letter to the Texas Congressional delegation asking them to oppose legislation that would replace state authority to regulate oil and gas production with federal control:

“Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement regarding legislation contemplated by Congress that would effectively strip states of the right to regulate oil and gas exploration and production within their own borders:

“This week, I joined a number of state leaders in urging the Texas Congressional delegation to fight back against this latest encroachment into states’ authority, which would effectively strip states of the right to regulate oil and gas exploration and production within their own borders.

“This pending legislation represents a sad continuation of Washington’s ongoing efforts to seize control over every facet of American industry and life, efforts that continue to place untold numbers of Texas jobs at risk. This latest takeover attempt is as unprecedented as it is illogical, given that it essentially hands authority over all gas and oil exploration to the same people who were overseeing the process when the Deepwater Horizon exploded.”

Here is the letter.

  1. The more power DC bureaucrats have, the more corruption they can practice.

This is one of the root problems with Deepwater Horizon and BP. They exploit corruption where they can find it. Texans do a better job protecting Texas, and this is yet another stupid and pointless grab.

Even the Green Party candidate wholeheartedly endorses Rick Perry’s actions (this is a joke).

  3. Of course a Republican led Congress & Executive Branch may just as well force states like California to open up using the same justification & given this possible precedent would be completely justified in doing so.

I’m constantly amazed at how short-sighted or outright blind the current Congress & President are in their current power grab. That or they’ve figured out ways to insure that they maintain control.

  5. I fear this won’t end well. I am employed in the energy industry in Texas. This would be like firing on Ft. Sumter in reverse to many people here.

  6. This is one of the root problems with Deepwater Horizon and BP.

Actually, the root problem with Deep Water Horizon may be the fact that the Coast Guard sank it with excessive sea water spray because they did not have a fire marshall who knew what he was doing. DH capsized and sank, ripping apart the pipe to the surface.

If this is investigated honestly next year, the US will be found to be the culprit, not BP

My only disagreement with you is I think trying to stop AZ’s illegal immigration enforcement was already Ft. Sumter in reverse.

  19. DRJ – You have been one of the most consistently level-headed and gracious bloggers I have known on the internet, treating ideological friend and foe with equanimity. I have truly enjoyed your posts and our interactions over the years and am sorry that you will be leaving. I hope that you will decide to reappear here or elsewhere after a suitable interval and let everybody know.

    Thank you.

  31. Huff post ran an article on the benzene getting in water supply from the process of fraccing a well. What was very obvious from the article and from the readers comments, that those people have virtually no concept, (mechanical, scientific, practical or industry experience) what so ever. And yet they feel qualified to opine on subjects which they obviously have no concept.

Why would you want egotistical neophytes (idiots) running any industry.
