Beat Up on Tony Hayward Day

BP recently announced CEO Tony Hayward will be replaced but the White House doesn’t sound happy:

“[White House Press Secretary Robert] Gibbs demanded that Tony Hayward “make himself available” if Congress holds an inquiry about the BP oil leak, despite the outgoing CEO’s suggestion that he would be reluctant to do so. “I don’t think that a lot of people in any country are feeling overly sorry for the former CEO of BP,” Gibbs said.”

Hayward isn’t happy either. In better days, they seem like two peas in a pod.

    They certainly do, don’t they?

I sure hope that doesn’t presage the whine we are gonna hear from the O!ne the rest of his life about how he was misunderstood, and those evil mean Republicans standing up to the Dem majority like that just ruined everything and …

That doesn’t sound like a co-operative work relationship to me.
    Congress had better issue a subpoena, and check the extradition laws;
if DoJ couldn’t pry Polanski out of Switzerland as a self-confessed felon, they’re not going to be able to get Hayward for a Congressional show-trial hearing.

  3. Well he’s going to be dealing with cut throat Russian oligarchs at TNK, a better class of people
    than those on Capitol Hill

  4. Tony Hayward will be crying all the way to the bank with his $15m golden parachute. And Gibbs is a lying piece of garbage that nobody should believe a word he says.

  5. There’s probably a clause in the parachute where he can’t tell the U.S. to go roger itself silly wot wot.

  6. If Gibbs demanded that I make myself available I might die from laughter. Has a Press Sec ever been more of a douchenozzle?

There’s also prolly a clause in the separation agreement that BP defend and indemnify him for acts taken in good faith while an officer of the company.

  8. No doubt the Obama administration will be happy to return the unused portion of the $20 billion shakedown not that no one can find oil in the Gulf. The damage done by Obama probably exceeds anything BP did.

Hayward was inept in his PR but anyone who will blame a man for going sailing will do almost anything and cannot be trusted with serious matters.

  9. And what was he supposed to do? Rend his garments? Commit seppuku? It’s not like he plotted to release the oil, snickering evilly at the thought of “little guys” having their livelihoods ruined.

  10. The irony, such as you can all it that, was that both Barton and Heyward were likely the only ones
in the heating room, who had a clue what they were
talking about, about 50 years od experience between
    them

  11. Days sailing: two. Days golfing: don’t know. Days spent meeting and greeting 50,000 Boy Scouts: zero.

  12. You said it, htom.

The Boy Scouts should just make someone else their honorary Chairperson. It’s amazing to me that he’d go on The View instead of the 100 year anniversary of a really awesome organization.

It’s so petty, like the Bibi snub and the DVD gift. The Presidency is about something more than awesome wagyu steaks and golf and fan mail. It carries responsibilities. Some are not optimal theater for whatever political faction you favor.

these it takes a village types should love the Scouts. Except by village they meant government.

Certainly not the Chairman of the Senate Cmte on Foreign Relations.

  15. I just spent a week in the north woods supervising a troop of Boy Scouts at summer camp and can understand why Obama loathes the program. The was no arugula in sight, just a week of pit toilets, no electricity, mosquitoes, Jack London stories around the campfire, cots, and crappy food. There was no discussion of income redistribution, discrimination, or health reform. It was just kids having fun, making friends and learning so skills and lessons that might come in handy later in life. Even the black utes from city troops seemed to enjoy the program.
