There have been a series of small and medium earthquakes near Borrego Springs, California, in the last 3-4 hours. Did you feel them?

  4. barely moved at all where i am in the Valley…

  5. I should have, my co-workers did, but I didn’t. But then again, I tend to be pretty blase where earthquakes are concerned.

  6. my boss told me to get in my doorway… he doesn’t really understand that the way the office was built out we don’t really have doorways what are particularly useful for anything so what I did was I ignored him and messaged about the earthquake who was in line at the DMV. He gets texts from the USGS so he always tells me the what what.

  8. North SFV…didn’t feel a thing. My sister did and she was standing about 4 feet away from me.

  9. East SFV and I most definitely felt a sharp jolt. But it was over within 10 seconds.

    Our pool was barely agitated.

  10. North Orange County here. Felt the first one, nothing after that. Long rolling quake with no real strong jolts.

  11. I am in Corpus Christi tonight.

Mrs. Squibob reports that all is well in San Diego.

  13. since the quake was down by the border, i’d put my money on smugglers who’ve hired tunnel engineers from the Inmun Gun…..

In a modern office building, the safest place is next to a desk – if the ceiling drops, the desks will take the impact, and leave some space for you to crawl out through.
If you’re in bed at home (or wherever), the best thing to do is just roll off the side onto the floor and let the furniture take the dropping ceiling if it falls.

  15. and if you are in a store, like Home Despot, or Costco, climb up on the shelves, preferably two levels above the floor.

that way, when the top levels come down to the aisle, you are above the residue.

here in Lost Angeles, the guy from the FD teaching our CERT class said that downtown will be two stories deep in office equipment and broken glass when the big one hits.

  16. I felt a long rolling shaker here in Anaheim. Our home is solidly bolted to it’s foundation so there isn’t much to worry about during a quake.

  17. Sitting in my easy chair in Anchorage, AK, I did not feel the S. CA quake. However, at 7:10 pm ADT I did feel a 5.0 as if it was centered right under my easy-chair despite it’s center being 50 miles away. We don’t ordinarily have shakers like those described in CA; ours are generally abrupt jolts, as if we are being drug down a stairwell with several months between each stairstep. ric

  19. I don’t miss the quakes after moving from Anaheim to Iowa.

I think Landers/Big Bear broke the slab for my old house in Anaheim.

Yeah, felt a couple like that when I was there in the early sixties – the guys from the East Coast would freak out. Left just before the Big One and went to the Hindu Kush, which has its own share of tremblers – some not “man caused disasters”.

  22. I was in Palm Springs. We got a hell of a good shakin’. No damage/injuries, but unless you were in your car, you would most definitely feel it.

  23. FWIW, there is another unique experience I suspect may only be available in Alaska when it comes to earthquakes. On the tundra, during a summer quake, the muskeg is much like standing on a bowl of JELLO as the waves of energy slowly dissipate right under your feet. ric

  24. I’m waiting for the day when East San Diego gets hit by an F5 twister and the Bronx gets flattened by a 6.5 quake. Gonna happen some day you know.

  25. Near Olympic and La Cienega, a mild shake followed by a 10 second pause followed by about 20 seconds of mild shaking.

  26. Dual earthquakes hit the rural region of Myanmar on Thurs morning. Though officially the Union of Myanmar, it is also often known as Burma. I found this here: Double earthquakes hit Union of Myanmar, aka Burma The 2 earthquakes were 6.8 and 4.8 on the Richter scale. The middle of the earthquake was near the border of Thailand and China. Tsunamis aren’t very likely, but major damage is. The earthquakes were very shallow, and therefore were felt very strongly on the surface.
