Celebrating America’s Flag

A handful of workers are painting what may be the world’s largest American flag on the roof of a Houston business:

“Work on the nearly 3.5-acre painting started on Flag Day, June 14. Lamons assembled a handful of temporary employees to help LoBaido with the project, and even the company’s president, Kurt Allen, got up on the roof to wield a paint roller.

“America is the best place to live, and I’ve been to over 40 countries,” said Allen, who’s from the United Kingdom. “When I heard about this, I told Scott that whatever it takes, we would help. I’ll be up there on Sunday, too, helping him finish this.”

The project cost nearly $50,000, with sponsors including Lamons helping shoulder the cost, Allen said.

While LoBaido considered several locations for the painting, he said Lamons’ was best because of its diverse work force, which includes people from more than 23 countries, and because of its building’s close proximity to the airport.”

Painting was delayed when Hurricane Alex dumped 3 days of rain on the effort, but the crew is determined to finish by July 4th so returning troops will see it when they land at a nearby airport.

As you know, an 4 month, all-out political war for the future of this country starts Tuesday… all good conservatives better rest up, we’ll need to be in fine fighting form, surely got our work cut out for us

  4. The key to getting back to what the founders of this nation had intended is to do exactly what they did. Make God our Soveriegn. Otherwise God will not bless us, the USA.

    Make God our sovereign?
While it is true the founders were for the most part religious, the 1st Amendment was designed to get religion out of politics, and politics out of religion.

  6. A nation built on rights given by God (as stated in the Declaration of Independence) cannot stand when that nation slowly moves toward secularism. When God ceases to be important or necessary, then our laws end up meaning nothing to those who are intent on doing whatever they please, especially those in power.

I think what you meant to say was that the First Amendment was intended to keep government out of religion.

Any other goal that you have mentioned is rather unobtainable.

  8. Now, if we can just get the guys who had their giant US flag painted over by the CA Transportation dept. to do another one, that’d be just peachy.

  9. BTW, one of my neighbors has a gigantic US flag draped over most of the front of their house; don’t see that around these environs – pretty awesome.

  10. OT – But I know Patterico has covered this before. They just announced the freed Lockerbie bomber may live ten years.

Could we have that diagnosis confirmed by an SAS doctor? They do make house-calls.

  14. But, just think of all the people who will feel discriminated against by having a flag, foreign to them, in constant sight.

No, the tried and true 9mm cranial aeration should work just fine.

  16. The cynic in me thinks that when this flag is finished that someone in the Obama administration will order it painted over.

The FAA, because it’s a hazard to navigation and could distract pilots and cause them to crash.

The EPA, because it’s a problem for birds.

Someone, anyway, will decide that you can’t have a big US flag inside the US and come up with some excuse why it’s a violation of laws and/or regulationns.

  17. Well, we could drop them from 5000ft and see how big a distraction it is….
Oh, do I really have to give them a ‘chute?

  18. Hey, what does Natalie Maines think about all this? Has she opened her blowhole again and told us all how ashamed she is of her country?

  20. Every year in my neighborhood, a real estate agent has little flags placed on everyone’s lawn on the week of the 4th. This morning mine was gone and so were all my neighbor’s — someone apparently decided to pick them all up overnight. Must’ve offended someone.

  21. Barack Obama just sent me a personal 4th of July email, paid for by OFA! I feel special.
