Blagojevich Bombshell?

[Guest post by DRJ]

Amid all the political news this week, perhaps the Obama Administration hopes Americans won’t notice this Obama tie-in from the Blagojevich criminal trial:

“A top aide to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich said he believed Barack Obama knew of Blagojevich’s plot to win himself a presidential Cabinet post in exchange for appointing Valerie Jarrett to the U.S. Senate.”

As a result of this testimony, the Blagojevich defense is once again asking the Judge to “to force the prosecution to turn over FBI reports of Obama’s interview with federal agents in December of 2008” because it has bearing on the trial testimony although the Judge turned down a prior defense request to subpoena President Obama, labeling it not material and essentially viewing it as a fishing expedition. This time it might not be so easy to discount.

At Hot Air, Allahpundit looks at whether this suggests illegal acts by the Obama Administration (probably not) and revisits one of several political implications:

Update: The other point to remember here, which is probably most damning to the White House, is that their own internal review in December 2008 concluded that Emanuel was the only insider who had direct contact with Team Blago. That appears to be technically true but effectively a lie given the allegations that The One himself was relaying messages to them via an intermediary. That’s “transparency” the Chicago way.”

This would have been shocking a year ago. Now it just seems par for the course.

  1. Hey, Team Obama investigated themselves and declared themselves clean. What more could you ask for?

  6. It’s ironic that this administration grants themselves standing as a result of their own their own internal investigations of themselves, yet BP, Wall St. entities, etc., are essentially scoffed at when they suggest their own internal investigations have standing. Funny that.

  11. It’s like the Sestak deal. Cabinet jobs are available only through the President, which makes it another impeachable-worthy offense. At some point, the hummus and Hamas crowd will have to give it up for the truth.

  20. “Is there an intermediary privy to relevant information that’s willing to testify?”

Is that a serious question? Do people want to testify against Chicago Machine politicians? Perhaps if they are terminally ill or are going in the witness protection program or as part of a plea bargain.
