TN Dem Attacks Female Republicans

From Michelle Malkin:

“We can now add Tennessee State Democrat legislator Janis Baird Sontany of Nashville to the roster of abusers. Here’s what she said about her GOP opponents at a Democrat Party breakfast over the weekend:

State Republican Chairman Chris Devaney today denounced as “petty and insulting” a Democratic legislator’s statement about her Republican women colleagues.

“You have to lift their skirts to find out if they are women. You sure can’t find out by how they vote,” said Rep. Janis Baird Sontany, D-Nashville.

The remark at a Saturday Democratic breakfast was initially reported by blogger Dru Smith Fuller. Sontany acknowledged the statement when asked and described it as “a glib, off-the-cuff remark” that “was inappropriate on my part.”

Sontany has issued the standard, non-apology apology “if I offended anyone.”

That was a mistake on Sontany’s part and she’s admitted it. Maybe she realizes that if Dems need to look under GOP women’s skirts to see if they’re really women (because of the way they vote), the obvious next step is to check Democratic men to see if they’re really men.

  1. So based on their votes, she’s saying these women are tough. Which is good. Tough effective legislaters.

Obviously her goal was to kiss ass a little with the good ol’ boy Dem party.

  2. I love her closing quote from Andy Levy:

Heh. Andy Levy tweets: “What’s amazing is that Sontany doesn’t realize that ‘You sure can’t find out by how they vote’ is a compliment.”

Democrats don’t believe that is a positive. Identity politics rule.

  4. Her comment is on the same level as the question “How do you tell the sex of a chromosome ?” – and the answer is “Take down its genes !” … except, as seems to be common with the Dems, devoid of good humour …

It was sexist (not to mention misogynist) in SO many ways – from the obvious “lift up their skirts” all the way through the patronising “You sure can’t find out by how they vote” (implying that good little girls know better how to vote (the Dem way) rather than as informed individuals) …

Do you think Tea Party is just people who are pissed that there is an African American president?
Yup, and the fact that they chose to call themselves “teabaggers,” which is slang for a certain act involving b***s. It sort of says a lot. I would say a mouthful. Looks like it’s very upsetting for them, but he’s brilliant. The thing is, he’s half white but that’s still not enough — for them it’s all white or f**k off. I think we don’t deserve him and certainly teabaggers don’t deserve him.

Must have been that incest with Luke that made Leia into such a sexually obsessed woman. I love how she’s specifically trolling for a response with slurs against, I guess, gay men?

I admit, I am pretty amazed at how vicous Sontany’s hatred of women is. But it’s just another step down that long road the democrats have been on for ages. You aren’t an authentic black man if you have your own opinions. You must be a democrat, whether you agree with it or not. Now, you can’t be a woman unless you vote for democrats.

  6. What the hell’s wrong with these politicians? They have no public speaking experience, or did they take stupid pills?

    JEA (6e7629)

  7. Exactly who is it that would oppress women and deny them their freedom of thought? Good Allah. And the I am sorry if my remarks offended anyone should be the basis of public tar and feathering.

  8. God . . . FORBID that a woman would be in favor of family values and the like!

  10. Agreed, JEA. There are plenty of arguments available to Democrats who want to marginalize their opponents. She could have made an argument for some policy, for example. Unfortunately, some of the dumbest ones were elected in the most hard core gerrymandered districts.

She ran unopposed in 2008. I think she might just be around for a long time.

She’s sorry ‘if she offended.’ I think the trolls say that just for a little more trollage. Kinda claiming it’s not clear this was offensive.

  11. They are identity-group lovin’ Dems, JEA.

  12. It is truly amazing that they are so open about the lockstep voting that is expected. In the Chicago City Council, you vote the wrong way and you come to the next session on crutches. This is the US Congress !

  13. I saw Carrie Fisher and Tea Party about an hour ago and didn’t even click the link. So predictable. The left’s racist identity politics and unwritten club rules are soo 50’s. Projection, projection and more projection.

Would love to see Carrie posit on the candidates running this year: Allen West. Charles Lollar. Star Parker. Better yet, put this gal up for a debate with Krauthammer, Will or Malkin. She’ll look like the second coming of Susan Sarandon.

(Disclaimer: I do like Debbie Reynolds. Albert Brooks should use her more often.)

  14. Didn’t Dylan write, “She VOTES just like a woman”?

  15. Greetings:

When the members of the traveling sisterhood turn on each other, I like to refer to it as a “Now, girls” moment. The full declaration goes, “Now, girls, remember you’re all victims of the same oppression.”

  16. I saw the Carrie Fischer thing on Hot Air and I made the mistake of clicking the link. Worse, I clicked on one of the links in the article and ended up seeing a current photo of the Princess. Gak! It’s no wonder she’s taking the side of the Empire – she’s starting to look more and more like the Emperor!

  17. DRJ – I think somebody needs to check if any of the Democrat alleged men actually stand up to pee. Sitzpinklers, one and all.

    daleyrocks (1d0d98)

  18. Irony. A female Democrat – that party of liberated women who in their own eyes are the very definition of feminism, tries to be like one of the boys. Because being a woman is just not good enough.

Thanks, Ms. Sontany, for reminding us how little women on the left have progressed.

  19. You have to hope that stuff like this is captured on cam. The ad’s that the GOP can run in November practically write themselves with this type of material.

    scr_north (f79f66)

  20. Leave it to the “party of equality & equal opportunity” to define how a woman should vote

    Icy Texan (43cdbb)

  21. I think I kinda threadjacked. Sorry.

DRJ’s quip (about how if GOP must be the party of men voters, then what about those men of the democrats?) is an interesting point.

I always hear ‘intellectual’ liberals tell me how annoying it is when a middle class or poor person is a Republican, or a black is a Republican, or a woman, or a gay, or even a Jew for some reason. Seems like it’s in everyone’s interest to be a Democrat. Even the super rich should be democrats because of Clinton’s vague economic record um bla um bla.

But press them on this, for any specific issue, and they often talk about how, for example, Blacks need the democrats to rise above oppressive White Privilege and get their ‘slice’ of the pie (thus whites have a smaller slice, since goodness is allocated rather than created by freedom). Women need to fight the male favoring patriarchy. Poor people need distribution of wealth.

Every specific idea is some use of the government to force each target group to get something from the rest, yet they all are used as an argument for why everyone is a traitor to their ‘kind’ if they don’t get with the (D) program. It’s absurd when it’s all put together, which is why accountability matters.

If the government and politicians were held to a promise, the democrats would be toast. Blacks would realize that Teachers are also getting a slice, at the expense of their kids in school. I could go on, but ultimately, these micro civil wars have to be stoked or people realize that big government (one powerful enough to take and give like that) is a complete failure in every big gov city and state and even the nation.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  22. The fact that much (or most of) the Democrat Party and liberalism — and feminism in particular — rallied around, and continues to ooh and ahh, over no less than Bill Clinton pretty much illustrates the way that people on the left will sell their soul for leftism.

If the female population suddenly became over 80% centrist to conservative, and the black population suddenly became over 80% centrist to conservative, and the gay population suddenly became over 80% centrist to conservative, a whole bunch of liberals throughout America would start to show their true colors.

    Mark (411533)

  23. No, she didn’t apologize, she waffled. “I’m sorry if I offended anyone” is not the same as “I’m sorry, I was wrong.”
