Twenty-Somethings Disenchanted with Obama

Filed under: Obama — DRJ @ 6:36 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

The youth vote was a key to Obama’s win but the Instapundit posts a letter from a 22-year-old who claims the twenty-somethings he knows are unhappy with President Obama. Apparently they’re concerned because his plans make young people pay for old people’s heath care, retirement, etc., so now they’re sorry they voted for Obama.

I sense a great earnestness and remorse in this young fellow’s letter but does he really expect us to feel sorry he and his friends are such suckers? It’s not like the taxpaying “adults” who fund America are living it up.

Then again, at least we’re not alone. Rasmussen has Obama at -10 disapprove/approve and -17 on the Passion Index.

  1. Oh, don’t worry, DRJ. Shortly lots of “young people” will be posting that they are not sorry of how they voted. Sheesh.

  2. Perhaps one day more of our youth will realize that the Left has been waging a three decades long war on America’s young through fostering statist policies that promote the growth of single parent, welfare-supported families, condemn them to lives of high taxes, bankrupt the Social Security system, increase the scope and power of government and leave them footing the bill for ginormous federal debt?

“Wheeler’s Cat” will certainly not be pleased about seeing her dogma run over by our karma.

  7. Amen, happy. There are smart ones and there are smarter ones.

The smart ones will do what all smart people do. The smarter ones will get a show on MSNBC.

  8. And what would have been better–voting for McCain? It would have just prolonged the agony.

As bad as the Obama Administration’s policies are, they will be reversible as long as we get a real Republican candidate for 2012. Obama’s the best thing for America, in a way, because he’s inspiring people to do crazy things like read the Constitution, study the philosophy of government, and examine what’s really important.

  9. I regret voting for him, but not because I trusted him in the first place – I didn’t. I regret voting for him because I wish my first presidential vote had been for a candidate that wasn’t a Democrat or a Republican. If I were forced to choose between Obama and McCain, I’d pick Obama again without hesitation – but I wasn’t forced to choose between the two of them. I could’ve voted written in Montgomery Burns, or something. So my regret is in getting suckered into a false dichotomy.

  11. While people who have figured out the media and public education are often propaganda networks for the democrats, some people have to learn that the hard way.

If you trusted Katie Couric and your public school teachers, you might simply be shocked when you realize that Obama didn’t really mean he was post partisan, would reduce all taxes for 95% of people, etc etc. You may have listened to John Mccain’s promises that Obama is nothing to be scared of and decided to trust both of them.

And then, when Obama constantly breaks his word and you realize that the MSM and AARP et al are covering it up, come to a real understanding of the world.

It’s not just that the young are being saddled with the boomer’s excesses, it’s that this saddle is ridiculously unsustainable and will lead to Greek style collapse. It’s not just unfair, it’s impossible, and the people raking it in care less because they think they won’t see the collapse. It’s worse than generational theft, it’s generational warfare.

Nixon revised Social Security, and then the democrats decided to raid Social Security withholdings for government spending. The voters tolerated the latter, knowing they were then only pretending to be saving for social security… they were really permitting excessive spending. Because of that fundamental lie, they do not really deserve social security payouts. They never really paid in… they just called their income tax something it wasn’t.

This is very unfair to the good people who opposed this behavior, in particular the ridiculous Murtha style spending. Still, we have to basically undo the vast majority of entitlements in order to preserve our country. I’m almost glad Obama so flagrantly dishonored his word and the MSM’s promises, so that our people might start to face this hard reality.

Not a bad pick, at least Mr. Boo – Urns actually ran something. Or Apu, who apparently has run a successful Quickee Mart for decades now.
