Another Reason to Worry About the Border
[Guest post by DRJ]
Ultralight smugglers and, for now, the rules favor the smugglers:
“Both humanitarian concerns and legal considerations prevent law enforcement from firing on the ultralights when they spot them.
“There are rules on deadly force,” Gordon said, noting that the ultralight pilots wouldn’t survive a strafing. “If you shoot them, you’re going to kill them.”
Not everyone agrees with this policy, including an Arizona Sheriff’s deputy who worries about C4 explosives and other contraband.

Its disturbing but these utra-lights have actually been doing this for years – decades actually, even more accurate now with GPS
EricPWJohnson (cedf1d) — 6/5/2010 @ 3:42 pmWhat does C4 have to do with MJ? Does that guy always make up stuff like that in order to make his points? What a joke. That has never happened, ever. He just pulled it out of his @ss. I would think the weight of the MJ would make it difficult to fly very much in on an ultralight. Cocain or heroin would seem to be a better candidate. You would actually see all the cargo overloading the thing if it was MJ. This seems like grandstanding on the part of the sherriff. 400 pounds of anything like MJ or C4 would be a very large package, especially MJ. Not to mention that drug cartels have no financial or other incentive in sending over ultralight aircraft loaded down with C4. What a douche of a sherriff.
Chris Hooten (3bba6e) — 6/5/2010 @ 3:43 pmThe C4 is what he pulled out of his ass, no doubt some people are flying in with MJ, but not that many I would think.
Chris Hooten (3bba6e) — 6/5/2010 @ 3:44 pmChris Hooten, again you demonstrate your essential cluelessness.
The point of the sheriff was capabilities. That it had not happened yet is a sorry excuse to ignore the capabilities of the smugglers’ aircraft.
The douche here appears to once again be yourself.
SPQR (26be8b) — 6/5/2010 @ 3:45 pmOh, dear Lord, is this character back again?
Eric Blair (e2121c) — 6/5/2010 @ 3:52 pmAZ and NM need more nocturnal Goose Hunters!
AD - RtR/OS! (9971c4) — 6/5/2010 @ 4:25 pmWell, we wouldn’t want to be accused of being bad, or racist, or anything.
Patricia (160852) — 6/5/2010 @ 4:27 pmAnd, as usual, CH needs to buy a clue.
AD - RtR/OS! (9971c4) — 6/5/2010 @ 4:32 pmOK
Then there aren’t real ultralights smuggling anything at all and it was all made up…
SteveG (7d4c78) — 6/5/2010 @ 4:56 pmChris – What am I going to do if I’m a member of your average progressive domestic terrorist group like ELF or the SEIU, and I need 250 pounds of C4 but can’t find it in this country? That’s right, I’m going to dial 1-8-Ultralight Smuggler, you putz.
daleyrocks (1d0d98) — 6/5/2010 @ 5:27 pmThat’s right, I’m going to dial 1-8-Ultralight Smuggler – Comment by daleyrocks
Do you have their web address?
MD in Philly (cb8efe) — 6/5/2010 @ 5:35 pmMD in Philly – I blew the phone number. It should read 1-800-Ultralight Smuggler. Sorry, I have not looked for them on the intartubes. You could try google.
daleyrocks (1d0d98) — 6/5/2010 @ 5:42 pmwell, its obvious who’s been doing doing all the drugs they’ve been smuggling in this way…..
if i was the SEIU and i needed the C-4, i could just call my contacts at the White House and get it delivered to me. 😀
redc1c4 (fb8750) — 6/5/2010 @ 5:46 pm¡Mexicanos muy trabajadores!
Flying contraband laden ultralights over the border at night — just another job old, lazy gringos won’t do.
stari_momak (09acb3) — 6/5/2010 @ 5:55 pmAnd now, with all the repeated instances of a certain illegal 3xplos1v3 compound appearing in these comments, all those who use their own names as screen names will find themselves on the no-fly list.
Gesundheit (6acc51) — 6/5/2010 @ 6:37 pmI feel so safe in this country.
