Greenwashing BP

The Next Right looks at BP’s Democratic bedfellows:

“One of the top media consultants for British Petroleum gave free rent to a politician who became White House Chief of Staff.

And, no, this was not Karl Rove giving a freebie to Andy Card.

No, the recipient of the favor was Rahm Emanuel and the benefactor was Stanley Greenberg.

Stanley Greenberg is an interesting guy. He is married to CT Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro, a close ally of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Grrenberg is the principal of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a large polling and public relations firm. They do both political campaign work and “corporate communications” work.

The DCCC has paid Greenberg’s firm in excess of $500,000 during the 2006 and 2008 election cycles. They are also Dick Blumenthal’s pollster.

But let’s look at the corporate side, where Mr. Greenberg promises to “help corporations increase competitiveness and profitability, improve reputation, and take advantage of global trends.”

Who are they helping? British Petroleum.”

  1. “the most transparent regime evah!”

transparently crooked, that is. the one upside is that, since the’ve killed the economy for the foreseeable future therefore i won’t be able to travel the world, they are gracious enough to bring the Third World corruption and governmental criminality to me so i can see it first hand in the comfort of my own home.

  2. that’s not even the half of it I don’t think when you have the gay-assed United States Department of Justice weighing in on civil proceedings what have nothing to do with their gay-assed United States Department of Justice pansy selves, and doing so to the benefit of the cowardly incompetent Brits who are responsible for this mess. The same cowardly incompetent Brits who gave our cowardly incompetent president many many monies.

That is both ooky and gack I think.

  4. do you know what I think DRJ? I think the cowardly Brits waited so long to try the topkilljunkshoy cause all that jiggering with the BOP at such high pressures will make it way more harder or impossible to prove it failed cause of Cameron or Transocean and not cause of the catastrophic failure caused by BP’s inept well-design skills and other shortcuts.

That is what I think cause of what the cowardly Brits said today.

“What’s happened out in the Gulf today is something that is an industry issue to understand this failsafe use of equipment,” Dudley said. “It’s going to have implications for the drilling industry not in the U.S. only, but all around the world. Everyone’s going to step back and learn from this.”*

See? Equipment meaning not their’s. The cowardly incompetent Brits are dead set on blaming others.

They are both contemptible and British I think.

  6. The situation is a mess and stories like this don’t help BP. But whatever the facts are, I think they will come out eventually.

  7. BP needs to man up and own it cause of that way it would be more easy for everyone to go back to drilling like adults except for BP cause of they are inept and they need remedial training.

  8. Hopefully BP won’t be the operator on many Gulf wells in the future.

  9. Well they have to say they’re sorry and stop blaming others and if they’re really really sorry then I guess it would be ok with me.

  14. fools rush in

Earlier this week the president slapped a 6 month moratorium into place for all deep water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. The order includes both drilling ships and deep water rigs that are used at the most extreme depths.

There are 33 deep water rigs currently drilling and the majority of them, 11, belong to Transocean the owner of the Deep Water Horizon. Diamond Offshore and Nobel each own 6 and Ensco owns the last two.

All four are Texas companies located in Houston and stand to lose five million dollars for every day the moratorium continues. But, the collateral damage created by the moratorium is the real story.

Because hundreds of service companies and thousands of their employees are located here in Louisiana, their business and employees will bear the brunt of the shut down.

There are no figures available as to what that may cost in lost work and lost.*
