Privileged Terrorists

A report says that Fasial Shahzad, the New York car bomber, is from a wealthy family and “the son of a former high-ranking air force officer.”

Another privileged terrorist, like the underwear bomber Abdulmutallub. This is one more strike against the liberal meme that terrorism results from poverty, famine and despair.

  1. Not surprisingly, he disliked the Iraq War and President Bush, too.

  2. if the left ever strarts letting facts intrude on thier world view, everything they have always believed would be destroyed and dealing with reality is for those without hope for change

  3. And he was a registered Democrat! Apparently, while the Daily Kos and Huffington Post crowds were on the knees hoping this was a white male, Tea Party activist, it turns out the terrorist shared 100% of their world views. We just need to find his screen handle at those two sites (and his donation history to MoveOn.org)to make the circle complete.

  4. Even though his house was foreclosed on, he was getting some coin from somewhere. Paying for a five month trip to Pakistan, cash for the Pathfinder, cash for the airline ticket.

  5. Mike – That was clear already. Were he a Republican, that would have been the lead story on every news program in the world.

  6. Islam is the only cause of jihadist terrorism.

    Allah is a pimp.

  7. Mike, his email, faysaldotcom@hotmail.com, turned up some political silliness in Arabic… and a registration at PornBB. These religious nuts never really seem to be all that religious about anything but the murder parts.

And this guy really destroys my view of Islamist terrorists being sexless loners. He had a family? Hard to see how a parent would kill other people’s kids.

The idea that he is a democrat and was following a lot of left wing ideas and extremist language he probably got from lefty blogs and media is a classic example of one of those rules the right is expected not to break while that very rule is broken over our heads. It’s irrational to blame Keith or democrats for this monster, even though they are constantly blaming us for monsters that aren’t even real. The best we’ll ever get is some ‘OK, I guess that whole line of reasoning was absurd. sorry about that!’.

  8. This article has more on Shahzad’s recent financial troubles and his educational background. Both he and his wife had college degrees. I guess his wife is in Pakistan now. I wonder if he (or his wife) were paid if he returned and attempted this terrorist attack?

  9. CNN floated the idea that he was acting out due to stress from his foreclosure.

  10. JD, I was wondering if that meme would make an appearance. It would be an especially ripe time to use that as justification for his behavior. I expect Contessa Brewer is working on an expose on the desperation people are driven to when facing foreclosure, including terrorism.

  12. Some people are stressed by big student loan debts that are bigger than their mortgages.

  13. The Denver Post has more on Shahzad’s wife and her well-educated family. The article implies she and Shahzad are not together, so maybe she’s still in the U.S.

  14. Shahzad is one more example of sham marriages by foreign men to get a green card. This is extremely common, even with non-terrorists.

My daughter was dating a guy about six years ago who was from Liverpool and working here on a student visa. When his visa ran out, he paid a lesbian woman in West LA to marry him so he could stay. Needless to say, my daughter’s interest in him waned shortly after. It was her first indication he was a jerk.

Michelle Malkin has a long list of terrorists who have done this. Remember the Palestinian who tried to bomb an El Al plane by packing a bomb in his pregnant girlfriend’s luggage?

I have no comment on women’s choice of boyfriends but many of the sham marriages are just that. The women are paid to marry the guy and there is no pretense of a relationship. THis is probably a similar case.

  15. I’m pretty sure that there are few leftists who actually argue this these days and that if they do argue that terrorists have legitimate grievances it has more to do with military occupation:

  16. If as is being reported, this guy really connected to Pakistan Taliban, and since their video celebrating ( prematurely ) the attack claims it was in retaliation for drone strikes against Pakistan Taliban, then Obama’s very own policies are what “provoked” this terrorism.

Quite a change from the Hope & Change BS, eh? Something he can’t blame on Bush since Obama himself expanded the scope of those attacks.
