Hutchison to Remain in Senate

Filed under: Politics — DRJ @ 8:22 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has announced she won’t resign from the Senate after all:

“On a personal level, this has been a most difficult decision, but after much deliberation, I have decided to complete the term to which you elected me. I will work alongside our great Texas congressional delegation to repeal and replace President Obama’s health reform, to stop cap and trade legislation and to cut the deficit the President is building that puts our economy in peril. I will continue to use my experience to try to stop this unprecedented expansion of our federal government and its intrusion in our private lives and in the public sector.

Throughout my years of public service, I’ve tried to do what it best for Texas. And what is happening in Washington today is not good for Texas.”

I’m glad Senator Hutchison made this decision. She’s a loyal Texan, a responsible leader, and I think her talents will be best used in the Senate. I commend her for doing this since I know it wasn’t her first choice.

  1. You guys are lucky. We might be stuck with Juan McCain for another 6 years…sheesh!

  2. I wonder if Hutchison will seek re-election in 2012. If not, Michael Williams might be a good choice to replace her.

Nonsense. She’s just a politician. She made a campaign promise that she hoped would secure her victory but that she never intended to keep.

She’s nothing but a liar. Maybe it’s useful to keep such a liar in the Senate, but in no way is she an honorable person.

Government IS the public sector. She’s an idiot.

  5. John is right. KBH made a promise that she thought would boost her chances of becoming the next governor of Texas. She was soundly rejected by Republicans. She NEVER had any intention of resigning if she lost the primary.

But she also knows that if she resigns now, Rick Perry will have an opportunity to appoint her replacement, and that would probably have been Michael Williams who is loved by all. So instead of giving up her tony position in D.C., and letting Texans have a true conservative, she hangs on, and on, and on, and on.

And don’t be too sure that she won’t run again in 2012. Power and priviledge is hard to give up and KBH is not exactly a humble person.

  6. Why in the world couldn’t she have thought of that BEFORE she made a campaign promise to do the opposite? Did she think, when the made that promise, that Obamacare was going to fail? That the Obama/Reid/Pelosi power structure was going to wither away? Ridiculous. The ONLY significant thing to change since she made that promise is that she lost the primary election.

She’s just another opportunistic politician, saying whatever she thinks will help her get elected. I have no patience for her and folks like her. Say what you mean and mean what you say. I’m all for changing your position when the facts have changed, but that’s not what she’s done here.

DRJ, why do you believe that this wasn’t her first choice? It’s not like her leaving would allow her replacement by a liberal Democrat.

  7. Wait. The post wasn’t sarcasm?

KBH is a center-left RNC machine hack. Nothing more.
