“Go For It”

Speaking in campaign mode in Iowa, Barack Obama dared Republicans to try to repeal ObamaCare:

“In the state that “believed in our campaign when all the pundits had written us off,” Obama touted the benefits of his historic reform. A fired-up and ready-to-go Obama told a cheering crowd in Iowa City that the law will bring dividends this year — for small businesses eligible for a healthcare tax credit, for patients with preexisting conditions, for twentysomethings who want to stay on their parents’ insurance policies.

Amid some early evidence that the plan has already gained in popularity since its passage — Quinnipiac University is out with a poll today showing disapproval has dropped from 54% to 49% — Obama all but dared the Republicans to run against it.
“This is the reform that some folks in Washington are still hollering about,” he said. “And now that it’s passed, they’re already promising to repeal it. They’re actually going to run on a platform of repeal in November.” Then, as if channeling Clint Eastwood’s “make my day” line, Obama added:

“Go for it. If these congressmen in Washington want to come here to Iowa and tell small-business owners that they plan to take away their tax credits and essentially raise their taxes, be my guest.”

Obama may find some takers, especially since a new poll finds Obama in a deadheat running against any Republican in 2012:

“A new CNN / Opinion Research Poll out this afternoon of 953 registered voters nationally finds Obama tied at 47% with any Republican candidate. Gee, if only Wendell Willkie was still around.

The same poll also finds a clear majority of Americans now believe that Obama is a one-term president.

Other than that things are looking great for the 14-month-old Democrat administration, which is still celebrating Sunday’s passage of a massive healtcare bill that most Americans don’t seem to like.”

Way to bring Americans together, Obama.

  1. “Go for it. If these congressmen in Washington want to come here to Iowa and tell small-business owners that they plan to take away their tax credits and essentially raise their taxes, be my guest.”

So says the man who will fight tooth and nail to ensure that the Bush tax cuts be allowed to exire.

  4. and essentially raise their taxes

LOL. Since when does President “Goddamn America” care about taxes being raised? All I know is that his warm-and-fuzzy, oh-so-compassionate (not!) healthcare legislation now means the already-red-ink-plagued state of California is facing new expenses on the order of $2 to 3 billions bucks per year. And given the way government policymaking and programs tend to work, it’s a safe bet that the amount not only will be closer to $3 billion instead of 2, but that it soon will bust through the upper limit.

  7. Did anyone notice Obama once again took off his suit jacket to show the people he was one of them.

Acting like he’s an NRA member and graduate of the University of Idaho who likes to hunt moose instead of a Harvard Law School grad that worries about the rising cost of arugula.

  8. I thought telling enemies to “Bring it on” was now considered crude and vulgar? (I also thought Republicans weren’t enemies of the nation, but what do I know?)

  10. They had 3,000 tickets for his appearance at the old Fieldhouse, where there are a few bleachers, but most people had to stand in a crowd on the floor. Meanwhile the 15,000-seat basketball arena sat empty only a few blocks away. His admirers would have had tiered seating for good views, but there would have been plenty of room for protesters and empty seats – neither of which photograph well.

  11. Fidel Castro was giving Obama props on his health care takeover today, so he’s got that going for him, which is nice. The Republicans should be able to get a few commercials from that.

  12. By “any Republican”, you must mean what the pollsters refer to as “generic R”.

But history suggests the RNC is unlikely to nominate a “generic”, or just “any” party member as its candidate. The same history suggest the RN is far more likely to nominate a particular member who, at least within the party itself, is regarded as (in no particular order, and with no regard to likely weighting) conservative, extremely conservative, libertarian, elitist, corporatist, liberal, liberal leaning, accomodationist, RINO, etc. After all, the GOP is still large enough to cover a fairly big tentfull of folks, or else it couldn’t hope to win very many elections. One has to wonder whether the individuals being polled appreciate the difference between “generic” on the one hand and “favorite” or “ideal” on the other. Some, perhaps a significant number, may even regard Reagan as “generic”. Not that we shouldn’t expect him to put up a spirited effort, but it’s doubtful the Constitution is more favorably disposed towards the eligibility for office of the deceased than even live Kenyans.

  17. MU789, While you may be making a subtile reference to Obama impersonating Sarah Palin, having attended the U of I, am offended that Obama could even get into that institution without affirmative action and black mail on the administration.

Also, Obama really was tough in Iowa. He went to the most moonbat left enclave he could find in Iowa. I’d like to see him try in Rep. Steve King’s district.

  18. Everyone understands how important this legislation was, just wait until they start getting their free amputations and tonsils taken out at will. Then if the GOP complains, we’ll just drag out critically ill children across the floor in front of the TV cameras and blame the Rethugligan’s heartless tactics. It’s a win – win, for everyone in the world. The CBO confirms my thesis, just go to their latest report. Case closed.
