RSS and Other Technical Issues — Any Improvement?

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 1:01 pm

A tech guy whom I will tell you all about very soon has had a team working very hard on some technical improvements. For one thing, I am hoping that the RSS feed issue so many of you have written about is fixed. Also, we’re hoping for faster performance and less down time during a big link.

Since there is no big link right now, let’s have some feedback on the other issues. Is the RSS problem fixed? Are your load times any shorter?

Please let me know in the comments.

  1. When the “recent comments” listing is filled with pingbacks, and we can still get in, then it will be fixed.
Right now, it seems to be better.

  2. Was the load time issue just fixed in the past couple hours? Earlier today I had load time issues (timing out) but these last couple clicks haven’t had the issue.

  7. seems to be a lil better than before… I was facing timeout before, earlier this morning.. and yesterday a few times.

    Big improvement!!

  9. load time was horrible just now. started thinking your site must be down. laughed when I saw this post.

hmmm…maybe it’s just me, but every other site I’ve gone to in the past few minutes seems fine.

  10. Load time is better. But the comments
    box still expands underneath the
    right hand gray column.

I’m using the latest version of Firefox.

  11. I’ve never had a problem with the comments box, and I’ve been using Firefox since before I found PP.

  13. Seems substantially faster to me, Patterico.

  14. The rss feed is still showing very old stories (9/5/09). I use igoogle.com and latest version of firefox. Page load seems a bit quicker.

  15. well ya… been through RSS as well.. need to wait for a few hrs to see how its serving to google now… this is a lil time taking process.. but so far everything is going fine from the server now… server is serving latests ones now: so lets wait a lil and see if google can fetch latest recs.

  18. When subscribing to rss using the firefox browser, the new posts come up. Suggests to me that it is working.

  19. Yea, still getting issues with the RSS – nothing then a flood of old articles.

  20. Load hang a couple of hours ago; Safari. Not at other sites.

  21. I use the RSS feed reader through My Yahoo! in Firefox. It still says newest feed is 6 months old, so I right click on your blog name and go to your blog home page instead of using the reader. Doing it this way, I can’t see new posts from the reader.

  29. It was faster just now. Sometimes it is so slow I open another window and do something else, then come back to see if it opened. Sometimes it times out. It’ll be nice if that’s fixed. We’ll see.

  30. I have never had a problem with the site. Only the RSS feeds. I just deleted and subscribed again and it is still F’d up.

Republican Senior Sitiz… no that can’t be it.

  32. The load time just now was still kind of slow, it seemed to be hung up for awhile and I started over.

I “don’t do” RSS feeds. Technology has passed me.

    MD in Philly (59a3ad)

  33. Huh. No noticeable difference here in loading speed. Still pretty durn slow.

    EW1(SG) (edc268)

  34. Biggest problem for me is not the speed but the format. Text posted to this board, because it runs together due to a lack of divider lines, becomes one big blur. In that regard, this forum is somewhat unique. But the format does make it harder — particularly if running through all the postings at a quick glance — to separate one post from another.

  37. we are considering updates on the ste on a bigger scale.. coz of too many requests at same time ( thank you every one πŸ™‚ ) we are facing some server issues.. which will be resolved very soon.. as technical staff is banging there heads on it πŸ™‚ server upgrade takes a lil time you know.. but definitely we are moving on bigger resources.

  42. Still loading much better, but format messed up (at least for me on IE).

    MD in Philly (59a3ad)

  43. I don’t have any visuals problems with Firefox, and the load time seems to have fixed itself.

    John Hitchcock (d67c23)

  44. Oh, except now when I add a comment, the page doesn’t refresh to show my added comment. I’ll have to do some other loading to get to that.

Thanks for working on this. I realize it’s a hassle and that most readers do not pay you.

BTW, that Amazon link thing is very easy to set up and reasonably lucrative. When you have a huge run of new readers, it might be a good idea to promote a couple of books or products on Amazon.
