A Mississippi man faces up to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to growing hallucinogenic mushrooms.

But he looks happy.

  1. Whitman would suspend AB 32

Meg Whitman, the former CEO of eBay who is running for governor, said today that if she is elected she would immediately suspend implementation of California’s landmark greenhouse gas reduction law, Assembly Bill 32.

In an Op-Ed in [Sep 17th]’s San Jose Mercury News, Whitman argues that the economic hardship facing the state will be compounded by AB32 and called on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger — who signed the measure into law with much fanfare — to immediately issue an executive order to put a moratorium on “most AB32-related rules.”

Meg Whitman – so that’s what her name is. Couldn’t remember it yesterday.
That’s a September 17th story, so it means Whitman was on board with suspending AB 32 before Climategate, Copenhagen, or the coldest winter we’ve had in 99 years.
Also it’s before Gavin Newsome dropped out of the race, leaving the ghost of governor’s past to reluctantly take up the Democrats banner.

I like it except, how much have we heard about it since? The media blanket has descended over the global warming issue.
And what does she mean by “most AB32-related rules”?
I don’t think we can rely upon the vagaries of campaign maneuvering. Not under these conditions.
Suspend AB 32 through the initiative process, and we avoid post election memory lapses and triangulation by backstabbing pols.

  2. The French government seems to have concluded, as have I, that a carbon tax slated to go into effect in July would damage the country’s economic competitiveness.

In other words the French suspended their version of AB32.

  3. Um, am I commenting on the right thread? I thought this one was about a happy mushroom grower.

I’ve wondered about “mug shots”. In some cases they get lots of publicity, and it may be that the public impression of you is informed largely by the mug-shot because that is what is easily available to the media.

What are the downsides to a big smile? Then your mug shot looks like any other snapshot, if you’ve managed to keep your hair neat and your face clean.

  6. about that thread hijack – nobody was using it anyway.

There are more pressing things then the feds using flimsy concocted “crimes” as an excused to consolidate the power of the police state.

You can still avoid the mushroom police by keeping company with a better set of friends, or keeping your secret in the bottom drawer.

AB 32 makes it a crime to be born, the very air you breathe is a violation in the eyes of that same police state.

  7. Kerry Woos Skeptics of Climate Bill – Roll Call

Members attending the Tuesday afternoon meeting, which included moderate Democrats, Graham and Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio), were given a PowerPoint presentation on the proposal that the climate trio hopes to draft into legislative language by mid-April.

It’s coming people. Mid April and only the Senate stands between you and and AB32 instituted on the Federal level. If you are counting on “moderate Democrats” to save us from this you are a fool.
They already have their republican defectors, to break a filibuster.

  8. leaving the ghost of governor’s past to reluctantly take up the Democrats banner.

That’s really not an accurate characterization.

AG Brown has been the presumptive nominee for most of the last two years. He wouldn’t declare his candidacy, but he had lined up donors and supporters behind the scenes, and the spectre of Mayor Newsom being defeated by him prevented donors and other politicians from getting behind Mayor Newsom’s campaign.

There’s nothing reluctant about AG Brown’s candidacy.

  9. You don’t think that the term limit law – which was the publics direct reaction to the hereditary privilege to power, embodied by the Brown dynasty in California, might have given Jerry at least a moment of hesitation?
