Holder: OBL Wanted Dead or Alive

[Guest post by DRJ]

Attorney General Eric Holder says Osama Bin Laden will never be captured alive:

“Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress on Tuesday that Osama bin Laden will never face trial in the United States because he will not be captured alive.

In testy exchanges with House Republicans, the attorney general compared terrorists to mass murderer Charles Manson and predicted that events would ensure “we will be reading Miranda rights to the corpse of Osama bin Laden” not to the al-Qaida leader as a captive.

Holder sternly rejected criticism from GOP members of a House Appropriations subcommittee, who contend it is too dangerous to put terror suspects on trial in federal civilian courts as Holder has proposed.”

Days after 9/11, President Bush called for Bin Laden to be taken “Dead or Alive.” Liberals criticized his rhetoric. Remind me again why the Obama Administration is so much more nuanced and articulate than President Bush?

  1. If he was captured alive, too many things that would embarrass the Left in America might be revealed.

  2. Holder sure can dish it out, but can’t take a lick of it. What a thin-skinned(*) little weasel.

  3. this is right up there with talking about KSM being jailed after his trial, which means, of course, that either it is going to be rigged or that the outcome will be ignored, which is pretty much the same thing.

unsurprisingly, the Bush administration was more honest about their processes and goals. Ear Leader and the fu*knut brigade are the original kl3wl355s n00bs.

    TOLD YOU SO!!

  4. “compared terrorists to mass murderer Charles Manson”

Excuse me? Manson is alive and well in a federal prison.

And this clown (Holder) is the best Obama could do?

  6. All that has to be said about Holder is that he apparently would still insist upon Mirandizing the corpse (and that is the one that is pronounced “KOR’pss” Mr. President) of Osama bin Laden.

  7. All that has to be said about Holder is that he apparently would still insist upon Mirandizing the corpse

My thoughts exactly, JVW. I’m guessing the corpse will definitely remain silent during all questioning.

Remind me again why the Obama Administration is so much more nuanced and articulate than President Bush?

DRJ, that’s because Bush wanted OBL dead dead. Obama only wants OBL mostly dead, which means he’d still be partly alive.

I hope I have enough pop culture references in there.

I always thought the most amusing situation would be for someone like the french to capture him.

  9. Oh wunderbar. Yeah, that would be cool. Then they’d announce that the poor guy only had a few months to live anyway, so they might as well let him go back to Saudi Arabia to live out his few remaining days… in exchange for some nice oil deal.

Can’t let the Brits get it all, you know.

Because the liberals told us so.

    Shut up, they explained.

  13. …the attorney general compared terrorists to mass murderer Charles Manson and predicted that events would ensure “we will be reading Miranda rights to the corpse of Osama bin Laden” not to the al-Qaida leader as a captive.

So can this be taken to mean that this idiot Holder thinks that bin Laden is some kind of common criminal, like the kind that populate county jails across the country?

    Blacque Jacques Shellacque (5ef35b)

  14. I used to think Holder was simply a staunch liberal ideologue, now I know he is either incompetent or irrational (or both) as well. One minute reading Miranda rights to terrorists and giving them civilian trials, the next minute stating none of it will matter because they’ll be captured dead anyways.

The only thing that sort of makes sense is that is the policy some are saying the military and intelligence agencies need to start taking to avoid harassment by Holder and Co.

  15. Silly people – Obama is ‘so much more nuanced and articulate than President Bush’ simply because President Bush is too classy to be saying anything right now … so Obama is ‘so much more nuanced and articulate than President Bush’

And that’s the ONLY reason he’s so much more nuanced and articulate …

Obama certainly isn’t more numerate than President Bush … does anyone believe that their employer will see premiums fall by 3000 percent ? Well, apart from Myron and imdw and DCSCA ?

    Alasdair (205079)

  16. Ya know, Obama may have inadvertently tipped his hand about Obamacare !

Obamacare may be SO excruciatingly exquisitely horrendously atrociously BAD that Teh One’s Gummint may have to PAY employers that “3000 percent” (plus the original 100%) to make them actually be willing to be part of Obamacare !

    Alasdair (205079)

  17. Alasdair, if you read the CBO report that discussed the effect of the legislation on premiums, you find that the CBO report’s author signals pretty clearly that the legislative assumptions are nonsense and that there is no real probability of any premiums doing anything but rising under the additional mandates of the legislation.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  18. SPQR – anyone with half a functioning brain or better realises that the Obamacare Proposals do not accord with reality except by strict coincidence … which explains why the likes of Myron and imdw believe ’em implicitly …

Oh – and to preempt the Myronism which is likely to try to claim that “Obama never said that”, he can be seen here saying exactly that …

((grin) Check out the kid falling asleep behind him (and the creepy-looking one behind the sleepy kid))

((OK – I denounce myself for the comment about the “creepy-looking” one – he probably can’t help that))

    there, fixed.

  20. Too bad Holder isn’t insisting on the Constitution when it comes to the House of Representatives.

  21. “Osama bin Laden will never face trial. We’re too busy prosecuting the Black Panthers voter intimidation case. Oh wait.”

    George (d57b1d)

  22. It appears that Holder is not up on the law too well and has trouble writing a coherent brief. We’re in the best of hands.

  23. Costs = Volume * Price

If even one imbecile looked at that algebra they would understand this new proposal will result in sky rocketing medical costs because ….

Free Insurance = More Health Care Procedures
Free Insurance = More illegal and legal aliens

But since Health Care is a new divine right given to us by god (but paid for by me) I guess it is all good.

    Liberals are infants.

    Jim (0c993b)

  24. 22, Mike, let me paraphrase Holder. “Laws? Laws! We don’t need no steenking laws!!!!”

    PCD (1d8b6d)

  25. So, essentially the AJ, the head of the DoJ, is saying he doesn’t need to have any policy in place because the DoD is going to relieve him of that responsibility. It is entirely beyond the realm of possibility that, just like with Saddam Hussein, we might capture him. Ergo, he doesn’t need to address the question; just dismiss it.

He needs to be fired based upon the utter irresponsible nature of that dodge alone. As if he hasn’t done enough before this to get himself fired.

Based upon his role in the bungling of the Abdulmuttalab (although there is plenty of blame to go around, and ultimately the complete failure to plan and prepare is the Presidnent’s fault) I have zero confidence in his ability to predict the future. Neither should anyone else.

Laws? Laws! We don’t need no steenking laws!!!!

No, it’s worse than that PCD. If we lacked laws to deal with the capture of OBL, that would be Congress’ fault.

What Holder is saying is “Plans? Plans! We don’t need no steenking contingency plans!!!!”

    This is entirely his fault.

    Steve (37c1c1)

  26. Holder is still undecided on how to handle this since he hasn’t heard from Marc Rich yet.

  29. Bye the bye, the NYT is reporting that GEN McChrystal is contradicting the AJ. He says they are trying to catch him alive, and I quote:

“I think that is something that is understood by everyone”

So is it now too much to expect the head of the DoJ to stop with the stupid dodges and airy fairy intel estimates (which he’s not qualified to offer, as should be self-evident by the incompetent nature of his estimate) of what’s likely to happen to OBL before we get our hands on him and just straight-up answer the f*&^$%^ question.

What’s he going to direct his department to do. Not what does he expect some other department he doesn’t head that he doesn’t control to do for him so he can evade his responsibility.

What’s he going to do if AQ’s number one is captured or two is captured?

    Steve (ed72e7)

  30. > Remind me again why the Obama Administration is so much more nuanced and articulate than President Bush?

Eminently simple, my dear man: There’s a “D” after his name.

Works like a charm, covering a whole host of deeply evil and reprehensible sins. Much, much better than a rabbit’s foot or a 4-leaf clover, in fact…

    IgotBupkis (79d71d)

  31. Frankly, my position is that OBL died sometime in 2003 and 2004, under a few million tons of mountain rock, and that the AQ has been hiding the fact to avoid demoralizing their supporters.

Our people go along with it because a non-quite-dead OBL is better than a dead martyr, and a dead OBL clearly wouldn’t lop off the “head” of terrorism — it would just inspire someone else to step up his game. Better to just let him slowly fade away into insignificance. If you think about that, it fits what is happening to him. Fewer and fewer “official communiques” as time passes.

In support of this assertion, I point out that one should simply note the following:
    a) There’s been no worthwhile new, unfalsifiable video released of him since around 2004. Almost all of it is audio, which is much more easily spoofed.
    b) Most of the stuff that’s been released “by him” since 2004 has sounded more like it was written by Michael Moore than by OBL — before 2004 he was “We will crush the infidel!! He will wail for his mother before us!” and since then it’s been a much more conciliatory and whiny “if you weren’t doing ‘xxx’ we’d leave you alone!”, referring to “My Pet Goat”, and so forth. Q: When did OBL become a mouthpiece for lefty talking points? A: When he was replaced by a sock puppet.

Again, I’m not saying the Intel community is fooled, I think they just aren’t calling AQ out on it for their own reasons. Saying “We Got Him!” has an upside, sure, but there is a “big picture” downside, as well.

    IgotBupkis (79d71d)

  32. > that OBL died sometime in 2003 and 2004

    2003 or 2004. DOH!
