Obama’s Monopoly Money

[Guest post by DRJ]

In St. Louis today, President Obama talked about too much government spending — he likened it to monopoly money — and jeered at those who say the Administration’s proposal of $20 billion in budget cuts last year is just a spit in the bucket.

It is just a spit in the bucket.

As ABC News reported today, the deficit after the first 5 months of Fiscal Year 2010 is $651 billion, which is on track to meet or exceed the Administration’s projected full-year deficit of $1.56 trillion. $20 billion is just over 1% of $1.56 trillion. I’d say that’s definitely a spit in the bucket.

What’s more, Obama’s “monopoly money” theme is getting old.

  2. In St. Louis today, President Obama talked about too much government spending

The guy is such a shyster, a used-car salesman par excellence. Because he’s trying to conceal his leftist biases — and if he had his way, I bet he’d raise every tax imaginable — he ends up being like one of those bozos who sputters “I’m not liberal…I’m progressive!!”

  3. And, with the new “Jobs” bill, adding another $100B in red ink, that brings us to $1.66T for FY-11 using the above numbers.
I’ll predict that the ’11 deficit will be $2Trillion when everything is added up.

The Obowman will have us on Easy Street, overlooking Desperation Avenue.

True enough. But it still works ’cause his followers in the media won’t tell the truth.

  6. How’s that Greg Morton song go? Oh yeah.

Who can take tomorrow/ and spend it all today?
Who can take your income/ and tax it all away?

    Obamaman can. Yes Obamaman can.

Mark, I would venture to state that your comment does a disservice to used-car salesmen; Obama is far more devious and dishonest. He is a snake-oil huckster, plain and simple.

  9. Well, in a weird way, I think this is comforting.

Why? Because it means Obama is completely full of sh–. the idea of obama actually believing what he said was scarier than an obama who is completely full of sh–.

  10. Obama can afford to be brazen right now because Helicopter Ben is keeping interest rates low:

Don’t bet on rates going up–at all–unless Americans start spending themselves into massive debt again to prop up an artificial economy.

Best line from the article that sums up how bass-ackwards things are in the economy:

“In a normal world, the more money you borrow, the greater the associated risk, and the greater the interest payments on this debt. Not in America though.”

“Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.”

  12. BTW, has anyone printed up some Monopoly money denominated in trillions yet?

Anyway, they may not want to put Reagan on the $50, but Obama is sure as s*it going on the $trillion.

  13. To save costs and time, “Obama bucks” should be printed with the infinity-symbol for the denomination.

  15. I’m convinced after listening to him that he has never played Monopoly, or he wouldn’t be comparing his government spending to it. He should stick to Twister.
