Scandal of the Day

The Scandal-of-the-Day is this Tennessee story about an email that compares Michelle Obama to a chimpanzee. The author of the linked Nashville Scene column says there’s nothing funny about this story, and the email’s author has reportedly lost his contract with the Nashville Convention Bureau as a result.

Free speech has consequences although it would be nice if those consequences were bi-partisan, e.g., CNBC’s Erin Burnett, the Eagles’ Don Henley, and other media sources.

  1. my guess is he was just monkeying around, and didn’t remember to think about the hypocrisy of the MFM….

Bush as chimp or any other animal: funny, appropriate, etc… with nary a hint of indignation to be found.

Ear Leader or the First Klingon as the same? RACIST!!

  2. One would expect something of that nature from Don Henley. Afterall, he was the sleazy rock schlub who used to get 15 and 16 year-old teenyboppers all coked-up and in the jacuzzi until one of ‘em overdosed and his MOP was exposed.

  4. This is nothing compared to the unfairness of letting people off the hook for pointing to Dubya’s predilection for fried chicken and watermelon.

  7. IIRC, antiwar protestors in early 2000′s had a similar photo juxtaposition btw Colin Powell and an ape. This is deplorable no matter who does it.

  8. I seem to remember there was nothing funny at all about either the Bush-Hitler or the Bush-Chimp posters. But I see that turn-about gets punished while the original vilification is ignored. That’s par for the course. Maybe the designer of the picture needed to make it an albino-chimp? Then it could be seen as a legitimate political statement?
