Taxpayers Host Pay-Go Reception

[Guest post by DRJ]

From Mark Knoller’s Twitter feed:

“# @jrcopper It’s a presidential event. Comes out of taxpayer funds.

# The WH argued that the unemployment benefits bill was emergency legislation and so was exempt from Pay As You Go requirements.

# It comes a day after the WH demonized Sen. Bunning for trying to apply Pay As You Go to the unemployment benefits extension bill.

# In the evening, Pres. Obama hosts a reception for members of Congress who voted to restore the Pay-As-You-Go law for federal spending.”

So President Obama “lets” the American taxpayers host a reception for members of Congress who supported Pay-Go legislation — the same people who opposed Senator Bunnings’ objection to extending unemployment benefits without paying for them.

How sweet it is to be a Washington politician.

H/T Maybee, with my thanks.

Bunning will probably stay home and eat unemployed people.

  3. Given the fact that the MSM is in lock-step with the Dems, there is no reason that they should be worried about this.

  4. Congress can use the funds it already borrowed for the “stimulus” bill and has not allocated. Indeed they can allow people to purchase private unemployment insurance, something that is presently not legal since the democrats closed that options years ago as a gift to the unions. Bunning is completely right.

I’ve wondered about a market for private unemployment insurance. It seems like a good thing, no?

Actually I have more meat on my bones than you do so if he is hungry I’m the better meal. As for unemployment insurance the republicans ought to address that now. Its only due to union pressure that there is no free market in that insurance. I can see the current base system in place for six month but beyond that and in addition to one ought to be able to buy supplemental insurance to cover the difference in lost wages and for an extended period of time. And if the premium was paid in after tax dollars then insurance payment would be income tax free (federal). But if that was available that would be one less reason to join a union.

    and therein lies the problem.

  20. Is this going to be a beer summit between those who are employed (the politicians) and those who are not (the rest of us)?
