  5. D*mn #3. Beat me to it. Yet another made up Hallmark holiday designed to push male guilt, sell overpriced colored bits of paper and pretty weeds, and increase profits….

  6. OT – FOX reporting Evan Bayh will retire from the Senate rather than run this fall.

  7. How weird! I was going to type “bah humbug” but Hitchcock already did.

It’s one of those hallmark holidays, I think. I got my wife flowers and sweets, but I usually don’t. Sure made her happy despite the fact that it’s inspired by pop culture and commercials.

I love my sweetheart, but I really don’t understand why she requires this holiday be observed.

LOL, in my world, this is exactly why we need the holiday (I don’t tell her often enough, so once a year… well, let’s just say I hope she never reads this blog).

  9. Corwin, I get where you’re coming from. I’m glad I didn’t add my snide quip about those poor men who actually wouldn’t treat their gal to lovey dovey stuff without the reminder.

It’s harmless if you don’t get carried away, but I sure do get annoyed when I decide not to participate and get some attempted guilt trip.

In Japan, the men get the overpriced candy on Valentine’s day.

  10. I have a personal philosophy:

Don’t buy flowers on the day you’re required to do so.
Buy flowers on other days of the year, just because.

  11. Yeah, I don’t understand why women don’t get that. When they get flowers on V day, that’s simply far less meaningful than getting them because some fella actually was inspired by her to do so.

Mother’s day is an even more compelling example. “oh hey mom, here’s a thank you card!” No dude, fix her fence and make her dinner when you visit her all the time.

  12. For some crazy reason, I woke up a bit confused and wished the hubby Happy Anniversary! He looked a bit surprised, but replied, Happy Birthday!

Now that’s a match made in heaven!
